this week has been good for gh some better then otheres hey maike what u think of pp not wanting to give amc one life more money

I must say YR has been popping lately and having better balance among the vets. I’m w\MBmomof3 on MS or Phyllis…I personally was hating the character of Phyllis under MAB. She was screechy and unbearable and air hog all the time same with Victor, those two was MAB’s pets. This team has grounded the characters again in more of what they were and BAM…I so enjoyed both characters again. MS does get a lot of flack but she & PB has been on fire lately. I personal hunch is MS doesn’t like the fact she’s not the center of attention to some degree and if Summer is Jack’s daughter Phyllis will lose the connection to Newmans. The clash of egos…this is where I’m confused because some doesn’t what a recast but to play the paternity story out correctly and this is solely Michelle’s decision because none involved Sony, CBS, YR didn’t want her to leave. If this is power play on MS’s part, I say recast.

I knew my statement would create discussion. And that’s okay. I still stand by what I said. I’m not saying any show should be totally comprised of the younger generation but I don’t feel it should lean heavily toward the over 40 crowd if it has a chance of surviving. I turn on my tv for pure escapism, which is why I don’t do talk or reality. I want to see attractive, hopefully talented, people. If I want to look at old farts like myself I can take a ride down to the senior center and play bingo.

  • Mike

Well I watch TV to be entertained. As long as a show is well written, has good acting, has entertaining stories, and I’m able to get lost into it I could care less how old the folks in it are or even if they look like gods or goddesses.

Game of Thrones is one of the most entertaining shows on the air for me. And half of those people don’t have rock hard bodies or model faces.

The same with Star Trek: the Next Generation and Oz. Both featured actors often over 40 or not with model bodies.

Soaps can do that too if they concentrate on building character again and concentrate on creating stories about characters that people love. They used to do that, but often they don’t even seem to try anymore.

If I just want to see a good body or someone beautiful, there are plenty of places for that. I want to watch a soap to be entertained and to get lost in the story.

GH ratings were up during the 50th and the show was heavily populated with the ‘old’ people, now the younger crowd are stealing most of the airtime, and the ratings haven’t stop free-falling. I’ll take a old, wrinkle actors with an immense amount of talent over some kid who only got their because he/she is attractive. The same attractive actors who appease the people who are drawn to a certain image of beauty.

The last Kristina was a beautiful girl, but couldn’t even muster up a fake tear. I don’t expect many GH fans to demand more from their show. If there isn’t a shoot out, or some ridiculous hair pulling cat fight between the women, then the show is considered boring. No wonder many of their fans hate Y&R – it actually requires you to have a greater attention span than a gnat.

  • Harlee

    @Bex….LMAO…at the last sentence!

Robert S. I agree with all of your GH cast likes, old and new and I also enjoyed seeing Bobbi again. Glad I’m not the only one who is wondering why Robert is languishing away in some Swiss hospital with never a mention.

I just find it ironic that out of 50 or so contracted GH characters in 1980/1981 (the highest daytime ratings not only for GH but for soaps ever), about a dozen were 50 and 60 somethings.

In my opinion, David Lewis (Edward Q #1) was probably one of the top 5 best GH actors…ever! And he had a lot of screen time.

The writing was good then. However, I still have faith that Frank and Ron can mix in the vets, salute the show’s history and get the ratings up again.

    @Mike Love GAME OF THRONES!!!

At the risk of being labeled a hater, I just have a feeling that ABC is very disappointed that they have not been able to slam Prospect Park — esp. with the law suit still looming.

I have waited for the big press release heralding how great the ratings rose with the big 3 returning.

They have to be disappointed that Days stole that thunder. Just saw the NBC press release Days had another great week. Big rise in total viewers but little still in the key demos. Days had an amazing sweeps. And a classic sweeps. I don’t watch but from reading the comments it was a great 2 weeks of stories building to big climaxes and exploding during sweeps. And some of these stories from the comments build over a fairly good time period.

I’m glad for Days and for the first time in a long time I am tempted to check the show out.

Days brought me back after a looooong absence because Eileen Davidson returned…I have not been disappointed.

GH had a great opportunity after they managed to wrestle the three Livers back from PP. Roger, who is such a great talent, with so many years of experience really should have been given more. Roger spent a large part of his career playing a quirky, sociopathic rapist, and GH decides to have him play another quirky, sociopathic rapist, Franco.

RC seems incapable of writing his own stories, he seems to want to build on Guza’s old scripts. The Franco story was boring, and should have never been done in the first place. Rather than create a buzz-worthy, electric, mysterious return for the three, he wrote three predictable cringe-worthy stories.

Even prior to Easton returning they were already writing plot points, such as giving Samantha custody of Rafe – no court in America would give a criminal like Samantha custody of any kid. Now RC has gone as far as to give her son (Danny) cancer, all so that Easton’s character will be involved in her story.

Why pair up the same people again? They could have put Silas with Anna, who Easton had chemistry with, or put him with Carly, or even Elizabeth. I understand why GH ratings fell so sharply during the latter part of the week, no one was interested.

  • Bex

Mike, I haven’t watched DOOL in years, but the excitement from their fans does make me want to tune in. I was a Sami fan, so if she is getting a great story I am happy for her.

  • Dee

I think Prospect Park is done for. So the Livers were smart not to hitch their ponies to that wagon but still I really HATE them.

  • sedgrick

@Bex and @Mike, you got to check in cause Days has been really good this year and a lot of critics have been saying its the best soap on air right now and if you check out the sweeps week you are going to be hooked and if you like to catch up start from after the Dayaster cause thats when it started to go up hill.

Days you are as amazing as always and i think if you keep this year going great you will be at the 3 millions by the end of the year.

  • robert sprague

franco is going to save danny seen that coming so he can become a good guy .

  • Mike

Dee, I don’t think anyone could fault the 3 actors for not wanting to go with PP. I mean a contract with a network show is more lucrative then one with a unproven new format.

But even with that the people behind GH should have had the smarts to know what was best for the show.

ABC and GH could come out big losers in all this and it can all boil down to ego. The ego of not wanting to lose. The ego of going with what they wanted instead of what is best for the show.

Most fans are not accepting these 3 — at least online fans anyway. Ratings are very unstable right now. And even though I think PP was stupid for suing esp. since some of the stuff they are suing over happened over a year ago. They should have said something then. But ABC could end up losing that lawsuit, because the big thing that it boils down to is they did not have the right to use those characters for certain purposes without PP’s approval. I mean even Frank V. knew that because he said in interviews that he couldn’t use Kassie DePaiva or other characters like he wanted because PP would not allow it. So they knew all along what they could and couldn’t do.

So ABC could lose money and if GH’s ratings continue to struggle or fall — ABC could end up losing GH — of course the GH fans would be the biggest losers there. And Valentini and Carlavati could be out of jobs — all because of ego.

  • GHFan

RC has a massive ego! Not really sure why…

He has accomplished something though – getting me to stop watching my fave soap GH. Go Ron Go! You are the best at getting fans to tune out!
