The Killing Season 3

Update: Overall the guesses in the poll were too optimistic. In preliminary ratings The Killing drew 1.8 million viewers and a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating vs. 1.8 million and a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating in its season 2 premiere.

Tonight, season three of The Killing  premieres on AMC. The show was cancelled after season two, then AMC reconsidered. While the show received a fair amount of critical acclaim, the ratings were never strong.  But this season the show is jumping on the serial killer bandwagon instead of just focusing on Rosie Larsen's murder, which may add some excitement. It will certainly up the body count.  The season two finale in June 2012 earned a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating. How do you think the premiere will fare tonight? Make your predictions.

Season 1 (12 weeks/13 episodes – week 1 had two episodes like tonight):
    0.7, 0.7, 0.8, 0.7, 0.5, 0.6, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.5, 0.5, 0.7
    Season 1 average: 0.6

Season 2 (12 weeks/13 episodes – week 1 had two episodes like tonight):
    0.5, 0.6, 0.6, 0.6, 0.4, 0.3, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5
    Season 2 average: 0.5

Series high is 0.8 while the series low is 0.3. If it was renewed with a 0.6 average (and then saved with a 0.5 average on season 2), I guess not dropping any lower than 0.5 would be considered okay-ish.

Regaining the season 1 average (0.6+) would probably be considered good news, and obviously 0.7 or more would be very good news.

    I guess 0.4.

    Kill what, the show?
I kid I kid. Hope it does well, but figure most people tuned out since season 1 finale even though the show improved dramatically in the second season. Linden and Holder are interesting enough to make me tune in, can the show keep the creative juices flowing?

  • samurai99

I was generous and gave it a 0.6. Mac is going to regret renewing this show.

Really like The Killing, aside from some of the sensational crap they jammed into S2, but I don’t expect much in the way of ratings. I don’t think half the people who watched it before even know it’s been resurrected. I hope they don’t base this new investigation of what Forbreydelsen’s second cas, either. That show was nearly perfect, but The Killing needs to go it alone and create a new story to explore. I do hope it does well, though.

    I AM NOT A SPAMMER … confirmed.

  • FellDownTheBog78

    should read:

“I hope they don’t base this new investigation on Forbreydelsen’s second case, either.”…

  • marcos

It’ll flop then get canceled again

  • Two

My guess is that the ratings will be more reflective of the trend prior to the final three episodes of last season when people likely came back just to get some resolution and not feel like watching the last two seasons was a complete waste of time.

  • CBSviewer

0.6. Fans are very happy to see it back !

  • The End

Yeah okay, I’ll say 0.6 too.

  • Tianyi Li

As the last season premiered at 0.5, I would now revise my prediction to 0.4 or 0.5 instead of a 0.6.
I know you love the show, but please be realistic. It is almost impossible for this time’s premiere to get a 1.0 rating, so please do not expect too high as your disappointment would be high as well

The Killing vs Continuum … i wonder which will be victorious.

If you are thinking, ‘but Continuum isn’t on Syfy until Friday’, that is true in the US. In Canada it is on Sundays and AMC is one of the few US cable channels available in Canada so the two shows do directly complete. I won’t be bothering with more of The Killing tonight. Maybe tomorrow if it is a slow Monday. If they ever find out who killed Rosie then maybe i might be interested in this show. Until then there are much better shows made in Vancouver to watch on Sunday nights.

They found out who killed Rosie Larsen last year, and AMC ratings in Canada, and Contimuum being against a show airing on AMC in Canada, is irrelevant.

I’m angry that this show pushed Hell on Wheels to Saturdays. However, since Hell on Wheels is moving to an all Western Saturday, it could be a good move for the show.

I liked The Killing when it was on, but I wasn’t crazy about it. I think AMC could renew it to save face if the ratings are just below decent since they spent a lot of time and money promoting it.

I predict a .6 and a downward trend from there.

  • mam61232

my guess is 0.5 this is based on how poorly the Second season finished. I liked the Larson case I am going to give the third season a chance but I will be shocked if the show gets more then a 0.5

  • Cory

I’ll guess 0.5 because I’ve seen no buzz whatsoever for it. I just finished watching it, and enjoyed it. I was as annoyed as anybody over season 1, but stuck with it. It’s not an award-winning show by any means, but it’s decent enough, and something to watch in the summer.

  • CBSviewer

I wonder why AMC doesn’t keep the Show and air it in the Fall after The Walking Dead. It could get 2.0+ with The Walking Dead as lead-in. The Killing could attract new viewers.

  • Evan

@CBSviewer that would make too much sense! It shocks me how AMC puts Talking dead on after The Walking Dead. I mean come on you could be promoting another show of yours after The Walking Dead. They should be putting one of their new shows on after The Walking Dead but for now I guess they really need to put that talk show after it. At least AMC is using Breaking Bad as a lead in for Low winter Sun which makes sense.

I’ve also always been shocked how they put Mad Men on at 10 and The Killing at 9. I mean Mad Men is the more successful show and The Killing is more appropriate for the 10 pm slot because of its darkness that you would think it would be a better fit. AMC is a great network with some great shows but they really need to learn how to schedule their shows better. I mean their gonna be airing Hell on Wheels on Saturday? They should just delay it 2 months and air it after The Walking Dead. I guess they’ve given up on the show but we’ll see.

The premier was actually quite good – particularly P2. I agree that TK would do better at 10/9. Hopefully positive buzz will help the show. Watching Kinnaman/Enos is worth it.

  • ForceChoke

Solid start to the season. I hope it did well; this is a good show.
