I’m sorry but why can’t fans accept things slow and steady as they come and not put unnecessary stuff on their soaps.

Last year we had people saying GH was going to take over #1 by their 50th with Cartini at the helm. When they got to #2 in the 18-49, you had a person in this very thread say GH was here to stay at #2 in the 18-49 and the others had better look out. Two weeks later it dropped to 3rd and even tied for last.

When Hogan Sheffer took over Days people predicted it would dethrone Y&R or B&B. Then with the baby switch they said it again. Then with the reboot when all the old stars came back they said it would. After several of those times Days even almost got cancelled instead.

Why can’t fans just let the shows build an audience and not put unnecessary demands and predictions on the show. Days had some good weeks, but these writers have got to prove that they can follow up a good sweeps with a good follow through.

Evidently they didn’t go up this week as NBC didn’t issue another press release. Hopefully they stayed steady, but soap ratings are so bad about playing that old up and down game.

Even B&B which has been consistently up for most of 2 years now even sees drastic drops at times.

Actually, Mike, Days did not “even almost get cancelled” as you said in your post.

I’m so pleased with the direction DOOL has been taking. Each day finds me so looking forward to relishing a new episode which rarely fails to prove highly enjoyable. Keep up the great work, Days! Hope you win some Emmys…you and your stellar cast and talented crew deserve them!

It pays to watch DAYS…and what a payoff DAYS has been for women and men!

  • Sedgrick

@Mike are you watching Days right now it isn’t even sweeps week and it is still killing it and I know people are going to say Days probably still bad but it is amazing this is the best time to pick it back up and I can say that if they keep doing what they are doing Days will reach 3 million by the end of the year

  • bizzarr1000

gh is great i dont care who hates it y&r is two

  • Mike

Sedgrick – GH has been on fire for over a year too according to it’s fans. But it’s ratings haven’t always been on fire.

No I am not watching Days but I will take your word for it. But again to fans it may be killing it as you say but the proof will be will it be able to continue killing it in the ratings. One thing that can be certain is ratings are hardly ever about quality. People tune in and out for all kinds of reasons.

Remember a GH fan said in this thread in April when GH hit #2 in the 18-49 that it was on fire and it was at #2 to stay. It didn’t.

The whole point of my post was just to basically enjoy the ride. Enjoy the show while it’s good. Appreciate the ratings when they are great.

  • Mike

    @Kayla Rae,

That opinion is all very subjective as to how close it got to being cancelled.

But sorry when you have a network executive who comes out in print and says it is very unlikely you will live past your next renewal date then yes you have come close to being cancelled.

And that is exactly what happened with Days. Days got a big break when he was fired or quit and their ratings picked back up.

While on the surface it doesn’t seem that the daytime soaps went up in viewers because the network’s did not issue a press release, keep in mind that ABC, CBS, and NBC seem to rarely do so anymore. Even if ABC or CBS does issue a press release, it seems to be touting something else (i.e. “The View”, “The Chew”, “The Talk”, “The Price is Right”, etc.) and the soap numbers are only thrown in as an after thought.

I don’t think that ABC has mentioned the ratings for “The Chew” since February and CBS hasn’t put out a release in weeks. Before the last couple of weeks, NBC too was largely silent.

The silence from the networks may spell a bad week, but it could also mean that the ratings went up by a small amount (not enough to brag about) or went down by either a small amount or by a lot (something the network’s wouldn’t want to draw attention to).

the only good thing about gh on Friday was micheal chad duell and the sam danny storyline. so sick of Patrick and Sabina and britt.cant stand morgan bratt all the way’get rid of felix his sister tj sean britt more laura scott luke tracy anna Felicia heather and lucy and if there going to have roger Hayworth play franco at least use it to robin mattison advantes and give us more heather pronto. and don’t like the luke being sick idea either he is like a super hero best actor gh has ever had. and micheal needs to grow some balls don’t let any one walk all over him chad duell is awonderful actor and deserves better kick morgan and kikki ass .

Big congrats to DOOL on their win.

its good for daytime when all shows do good

  • Kayla Rae

@Mike, I still do not believe that Days “came close to being cancelled” as you claim. In contrast to what you write, I read several things that stated that the powers that be at NBC had no intentions of cancelling Days. So we will have to agree to disagree.

I do agree with you, however, regarding the fact that high ratings do not necessarily reflect high quality programming. OMG, look at how popular such idiotic crap as “Duck Dynasty” is! There is no accounting for the dubious tastes of much of the American public. Not the brightest bunch, to be sure. LOL

  • Kayla Rae

Congrats, Days, on your huge win! So long overdue! Well deserved…good on you! Best Drama to be sure!

Kayla Rae…former NBC Universal executive Jeff Zucker (who held various titles as entertainment president, television group president, CEO, network president, etc.) said this in January 2007 when asked about the future of “Days” on NBC…”[the show] is unlikely to continue [on NBC] past 2009 (when Sony’s contract with NBC expires). While “Days” was ultimately renewed in November 2008, that 18 month renewal was far less than the previous renewal period, which was for 5 years.

Whether Jeff Zucker made those comments about “Days” as a way to intimidate Sony into a lower license fee or if NBC was seriously thinking about canceling the show, I do agree with Mike that “Days” has come close to cancellation in the past. During the 1990s, I remember rumors that Sony was shopping “Days” to Fox (which did not have any daytime line-up, and still doesn’t) if NBC failed to renew its contract. These tactics are often used as “blackmail” to try and influence a network or production company into renewing a particular series. (A more recent example is “Cougar Town”, which was picked up by TBS after ABC canceled it as a result of producers shopping it around, and a similar deal – which did not materialize – between producers of “Happy Endings” and USA Network after the comedy was canceled by ABC.)

Ratings are finally posted at SON.

Wow all soaps down in every category. Days took the biggest hit. It only beat GH in 18-49.

    Bad week.

Seems like once a month all show a drastic drop….then a rise.
