MIAMI – JUNE 10, 2013- “Boxeo Telemundo” returns on Friday, June 21 to open up the second season of the critically acclaimed program that includes five highly anticipated fights. The spotlight will shine on one of boxing’s best on June 28, as WBO’s number one ranked featherweight Orlando “El Fenomeno” Cruz returns to the ring at the Kissimmee Civic Center three months after knocking out Aalan “The Bomber” Martinez in that same venue on “Boxeo Telemundo”. Cruz, the only openly homosexual active boxer in history, will put his skills to the test once again as he inches closer to a world title shot. That same night, Dominican pugilist Joan Guzman, a former world champion in two divisions, faces off against Vicente Mosquera of Panama, another former title holder for the WBA junior welterweight interim belt. Rene Giraldo, Jessi Losada and Karim Mendiburu will be calling the action throughout the four weeks, and will also be interacting with fans on social media throughout the events.
The season kicks off on June 21 in Mexico City with a matchup between prospect “Mighty” Matthew Villanueva (9-0-0, 8 KOs) and Julian “Chicano” Rivera (12-7-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant WBO Latino Super Featherweight Title. This will mark the fourth appearance on “Boxeo Telemundo” for Rivera since last year, when he won three consecutive fights on the network en route to challenging for the WBA title.
This time around, “Boxeo” will add one new venue to its schedule as it takes a look at past, present and future champions of the sport of kings from the “Plaza Condesa Auditorium” in Mexico City, the “Kissimmee Civic Center” in Kissimmee, Florida and the “A la Carte Pavilion” in nearby Tampa.
Other great fights highlighting season two of “Boxeo Telemundo” include a rematch for the WBO Youth Super Flyweight Title between Mexicans David Carmona and Danny Flores on July 5th from Mexico City, and the season finale on July 12 from Tampa, Florida, as Mexico’s Aalan Martinez squares off against Puerto-Rican American, and hometown favorite, Charlie Serrano.
The most intense sports action this summer is on “Boxeo” Telemundo, home to the best Latin boxers.
