True Blood Season 6

Season six of True Blood premiere tonight on HBO. Though the frequently-naked vampire saga's ratings have been eclipsed by Game of Thrones, it's still one of HBO's biggest shows. The season five  premiere on June 10 earned a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating while the finale on August 26, 2012 garnered a 2.8. So how do you think it will do tonight?

    More People Will Watch Than The Daytime Emmys On HLN!!

  • John A

    3.0.

  • Gary A

    A lot of competition tonight and the show will be available on HBO on demand tomorrow and it also airs about 3 or 4 times tonight besides the 9:00 pm spot so it will be around 2.7 – 2.8 more than likely.

  • brian

    Call me an optimist, but 3.1 for the debut. Can’t see them being affected much by the NBA or the beauty pageant.

  • NBC Fan

    2.9

  • Red Jane

    2.5-2.6 there’s been virtually no buzz these past weeks unlike the past couple of years

  • reallypeople

    2.9 to 3.0. Being HBO, there’s not really any further untapped viewership and those numbers are really the high mark for a show carried by HBO. Especially with On Demand and repeat viewings in play.

    As for the competition, there’s really not any. A basketball game and a beauty pageant? Neither of these are going to detract from a saucy, soapy, sci-fi horror-y show. Now Trump might feel the burn.

    And does it really matter what True Blood gets ratings wise? It pulls in numbers 99.9991% of all shows on cable wish they could achieve. Not to mention it just finished at #1 recently on the DVD/Blu-Ray sales chart for last season’s release.

    2.9

    True Blood was actually 3rd on the blu/dvd sales chart debut week 5/26/13:

    TW LW Title / Sales Index
    1 New The Last Stand 100.00
    2 New Parker 90.65
    3 New True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season 81.30

  • reallypeople

    @Romo

    Actually, True Blood was the top seller for blu/DVD sales, not the third. (According to LA Times and UPI.com). I think you are looking at the rental charts. In fact, it was number one for a second consecutive week as well. (re: LA times article).

  • romo

    Nope #3 on homemediamagazine.com list of Top 20 Sellers for the Week Ended 05/26/13.

  • Daniel

    I think a 2.9. I wonder how dexter will affect true blood? Maybe Dexter has one more kill.

  • Hillbilly

    Though the frequently-naked vampire saga

    What more do you need.

    2.9

    If the Miss USA Competition had more nudity i might watch it. :)

  • Roman

    I’m thinking 2.7-2.8. Red Jane is right, ever since last season, the buzz for the show has dropped quite a bit. They heavily promoted seasons 1-4, but there was not a lot for season 5 and even less for the upcoming season.

  • reallypeople

    @Romo

    Don’t know else to put this.. so I’ll just say it. You’re wrong. UPI and LA Times are right. (RE : LATimes.com “True Blood’ keeps top DVD sales spot; ‘Gangster Squad’ top rental… UPI.com “‘True Blood’ tops DVD sales chart” ; “‘True Blood’ tops DVD sales chart for a second week.”

    Needless to say, for a TV series topping the sales list two weeks in a row is impressive.

    i don’t follow GOT, what kinda ratings do they get?

    i don’t follow GOT, what kinda ratings do they get?

    The initial airings this past season averaged 5.0 million viewers and a 2.6 rating with a high of 5.5 million viewers and a 2.9 rating.

    In total viewership across all platforms, it was the second most watched season ever on HBO, behind only the fifth season of The Sopranos.

    i know how else to put it….youre wrong.

  • reallypeople

    @Romo

    Wow… let it go, you were wrong about a fact. It happens. For the final time:

    Top 10 DVD & Blu-ray sales (From LATimes)

    1. “True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season” | Warner Bros. Week 1

    2. “The Last Stand” | Lionsgate | Week 1

    3. “Parker” | Sony | Week 1

    4. “Beautiful Creatures” | Warner Bros. | Week 1

    5. “Side Effects” | Universal | Week 1

    @Red Jane

    I don’t blame HBO for the lack of promotion. Why spend a huge amount? The fan base is already as solid as its ever going to be and there are not that many new viewers to gather. They pretty much know what to expect and plan for results on par. Would they want to surpass expectations? Sure. But honestly, it’s a show with a dedicated fan base that pretty much sells itself. Not to mention the merchandising which must still be going strong because it seems like every week there’s some sort of new thing to buy from the HBO store. (Does anyone actually do that?) It’ll be around as long as the major pieces want to continue to play (Skarsgaard, Moyer, Paquin, Kwanten, Manganiello et al).
