Jeff they averaged 919,000 viewers up from 912,000 last year. It was HLN’s #1 program for the week.

These numbers are from Media Life Magazine. Every time I try to put the link here it won’t post.

As long as I’m happy with DAYS, (I’m extremely happy) I will continue to watch.
Words to the wonderers: Do’nt let the numbers decide for you what to watch.
We are human-not machines. If you’re happy with DAYS, keep watching. You
do’nt need to see high numbers to know what is good. If elsewhere is not up
to your standards, give DAYS a try. You do’nt need low numbers to tell you a
show is bad. Sometimes a show survives off a reputation of high numbers when
viewers feed into the numbers game.

@Dee I was a Carlavati enthusiast but you’ll get no argument from me. Very disappointed in his obvious inability to bring the same degree of excellence to GH as he did to OLTL.

  • jason

Agree on GH being terrible and almost to the point of futile to watch. The way several of the GH characters act, they should be dealing with a variety of venereal diseases. To increase ratings, Carlavati should do a first of its kind great, serial killer type storyline. Kill off the “sex positive” characters with an extremely aggressive v.d. type of plague. Almost the entire cast(minus Rafe, Molly and Monica) could be involved with that kind of storyline.
    First victims: Kiki and Morgan.

  • jason

Sounds controversial but it’s time to think outside the box.

  • Mike

Wow been out and about today. Came back to the few message boards I visit and find out that AMC and OLTL will no longer have cuss words. I just wonder what the rationale is behind that one since PP has advertised them as being more daring since day one. My only guess is they have got to get a syndication deal this fall and want to make it appeal to more stations. Or too many people complained. I don’t think the shows need to add cuss words just for the sake of doing it, but it made the shows seem more real esp. to hear the young people talk like young people do.

As Jason said all the shows need to think outside the box.

Also was shocked to see that Days is losing three of their young stars. I won’t spoil it here but you can check out Soap Opera Network and Daytime Royalty. Probably other boards too but those are the two boards I saw the news on.

Also noticed that there were no press releases for daytime again.

Mike…in regards to curse words on AMC and OLTL, I haven’t watched any on-line episodes (I never watched AMC to begin with when it was on television), but what kind of curses are we talking about? I thought the most foul thing that they added was “$h!t”. If that is indeed the case, most cable channels allow that word to pass by the censors. Even the benign whodunnit series “The Glades” on A&E (hardly a cutting edge cable network) is allowed to say that word. If I had to guess, the producers probably had complaints, but one would think that the generally younger people who watch the two soaps on-line would be kind of immune to rather tame curse words such as that (unless we are talking about far filthier words, of course).

  • JayTN

In regards to the “Days” cast defections, it’s a mixed bag for me. Only one exit has actually been confirmed, the other two are merely rumors for now. The confirmed exit is actually good, for me, as this character hasn’t really had anything to do for months. He has pretty much just stood around and chewed the scenery.

The other two roles are more crucial and if their exit is confirmed, both roles will probably be recast, especially since they are part of a storyline that has won the soap both critical acclaim and Emmy awards.

There is some good news for AMC/OLTL, as the labor dispute between Prospect Park and the entertainment union seems to be settled.

  • jonboyelk

LOL @Jason. Well, in the early 80s they had Lasa Fever, maybe they should have a horndog epidemic. After Morgan and kiki next victim should be Carly. Put that annoying bitch out of her misery already.

  • Jeff

@Mike– thanks for info on emmy ratings.

@JayTN– they pretty much said all the words, and a lot of racy talk. Didn’t bother me at all, as I have the mouth of a sailor, but I am wondering if they are nearing some deal to put the shows on cable or something, and want to have them cleaned up for it.

  • jonboyelk

Y&R has been pretty good this week. Hope that translates to better ratings

  • jason

Believe it or not, it was a hard choice for me whether or not to put Carly as the first victim.

  • Mike

Just saw the CBS press release for the week ending June 14th.

All the CBS shows were up for last week. The Talk had it’s best ratings since February. Y&R was up 5% and B&B up 4%.

Even the game shows were up from the week before.

Will be interesting to see if the other networks improved too or at least recovered some of their losses.

  • bizzarr1000

i liked gh and y&r this week

  • PatF

I think the paternity storyline is helping drive the ratings for last week.

Great use of history by YR.

  • Deeann

Hope Y&R and DOOL climb up in the ratings quickly. I like both of them. The other 2 soaps on network TV not so much.

  • sofaspud

Are we behind a week on the soap ratings? Today is June 24 and the last one posted is for week of June 3 – 7. Last Friday, June 21, we should have had the week of June 10 – 14. I’ve noticed this a couple of times before. Is there just little interest so the priorities have been lowered to post in a timely manner?

  • jonboyelk

@Jason Nothing against Laura Wright, who is a great actress. It’s the character that annoys me.
