Amidst allegations of racism, Paula Deen has been unceremoniously fired from the Food Network, according to Mediaite.

Though she apologized earlier today, it seems that Food Network has elected not to renew her contract at the end of the month.

So does that mean I’m a racist too, when 52 years ago I said the n word when I was playing with my aunts’ black cat? Cuz that’s what the cats name was.

Uhhh, she wasn’t just fired for ‘what she said 27 years ago,’ she admitted to several other incidents in her deposition (including racial and religious jokes), and she’s accused in her lawsuit of saying this recently:

“Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n***ers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties. You know, in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around. Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”

Food Network Has No Class…Their loss will be someone elses gain..It’s all about the money with these networks..

Paula Deen is all treat her like a criminal is truly sad..She admitted to using the N word at some time in her life..I guess most of us should be fired from our jobs for using the n work at some time in our lives.

I have not been in there to comment or even lurk in ages. Just did a drive by yesterday and it took me some time to figure out it was closed.

  • Yes

What is this 1963? We have many other problems to worry about other than someone saying the n-word! Morons!

  • Sal

Wish they’d can her son! The commercials for his show alone annoy me.

  • Wallaby2012

This is such OVER REACTION to a word that is ensconced in our culture.

I like Food Network , but, only watch ‘Chopped’ & ‘Restaurant Impossible.’ I believe companies have the right to determine who they want working for them . If Paula’s only offense was a racist comment in 1986 , &, her show was doing well , then FN , probably would have renewed her contract.

I wasn’t around either when the Cable News was shut down . You threw out a tease . What happened ?

Let’s see here, we have a 66 year old woman raised in Georgia use a albeit insensitive slur that was common in her world growing up. Who would not harm another living soul, (except by the food she cooks.) Whereas there are some rap and hip hop artists who use this slur on a daily basis, and write songs about beating their b#$% Girlfriend, and they get a free pass. The world is literally going insane.

There’s a difference between political correctness and using the N word in describing people. Besides if you go and read the deposition (and a fun read it is too, the Huffington Post had a link to it) it’s not just the racial slurs; it’s also her brother browsing pornography in front of female workers and other items (and her response to them) that make you just shake your head and say Paula, you need to hire an HR person and follow the laws for the workplace, at the very least.

It is my firm belief that all people of all races, beliefs, sexes, ages, etc etc etc are to a greater or lesser extent racist and/or have negatives feelings to others who are different in some manner … humans are a tribal species.

  • CeeKay

    She’s a lousy so-called cook. That’s the real reason she “wasn’t renewed”.

  • The End

I agree that firing her because she used the N word is political correctness gone mad. It’s likely the network wanting to maintain a certain image. What that image is, is anyones guess. But regardless. It’s happened.

I don’t think her career is over by a long shot, another network will invest in her.

  • cimmer

Look the bottom line isn’t that she used the N word, not cool but she probably could have recovered from that IF that was the only thing she was being sued for, but if you read the deposition there were racist and anti Semitic jokes being told as well as pornography being viewed in the workplace by employees (and family since that sometimes seemed to be the same thing) and generally a lot of stuff that a so called savvy businesswoman of the 21st century NEVER should have let go on in her business. Now, add that to the fact that she seems a little unclear on why those things might make up a hostile work environment and that’s why she’s in trouble now. The FN and others just want to distance themselves from the fallout. Basically her show wasn’t renewed not because she was ‘racist’ but because she was stupid. You can come back from being a bigot but dumb is a lot harder.

I’m really surprised they let go of one of their most popular hosts over something she said to her husband decades ago. She apologized publicly. What ever happened to forgiveness ? Hopefully the executives will never be judged as they judged Paula. My goodness ! I hope this site does a story to see how far their ratings dropped after her firing.

  • Phil

She will be back once this mess clears up.
(file this under the Martha Stewart category of public shame)

  • Shanini

All you so called people who are calling her a “fat” racest are in the same boat once you said “fat” ! Making fun of someone with a weight problem is the same damned thing! And someone left a comment about her making a hamburger with donuts as the bun, I believe she had a black woman right next to her on the episode, she is such a racest! People suck today get over it , I am jewish and really do not care what people say about me or my religion. And trust me my people had it pretty bad in case none of you remember. Grow up and food network you lost another veiwer!

  • Lori Law

Seriously??? Who hasn’t made racial comments in their life! This is ridiculous! I’m really sick of the double standard between whites and blacks!

  • NickS

She is being fired for something she admitted saying in the past? What a joke.
