4hour….she is only a Bell by marriage — not by blood.

    She nearly ruined Y&R.

  • Bex

Mike, I figured that was our resident bad ass, I just didn’t think he was stupid enough to post the same message twice under two different aliases.

    Thanks for the GH post.

  • PatF

So glad to see that a story we care about…the paternity tale on YR, seems to be the one that drove ratings success last week.

I see some people dissing GH…but they are up folks. All four soaps have pretty big gains over last year. I think that’s quite a success story.

  • Bex

We all write our thoughts regarding the various soaps, but a large majority of the people that are the most vocal in regards to GH are GH viewers who have a problem with the stories being told, not really the ratings.

Yes, they are up, but considering the lost last week I wouldn’t exactly leap to praise.

  • Nick

A gain of 64,000 on an “up” week for soaps is actually not good at all. The increase for GH is puny compared to the other shows and a loss in 18-49 women. The show is bad, and the writers keep making one bad decision after another.

  • jan chisholm

Days has been terrific…The writing, the actors are just perfect…Keep up the good work…Gold stars to all the actors and I am loving Kristen. She is delicious..

  • Mike

    Pat F,

Networks don’t look at week to week gains. They look at long running trends. Up one week even big looks good to soap fans but not always to network officials and advertisers.

You are not really gaining anything when you are basically only making up and holding steady. Of the 4 shows only Y&R and B&B actually gained more than they lost last week. And none of them gained back as many 18-49 viewers they lost they last week. So even with the gains they didn’t really recover.

Even looking at year to year numbers doesn’t always tell the story. It is easy to be up if your ratings were low already the year before.

For instance Y&R had a good week this same time last year but from the year before they were way down. Even up this year they haven’t made up for the viewers they lost last year. This time last year they had lost 120,000 18-49 viewers from the year before. It’s great they are recovering, but they still have a long way to go.

Yes it is good to be positive. And any gain is better than a loss, but just being positive doesn’t look at the whole picture. And is not what the advertisers or execs are going to see.

  • Debsafan

I wish we could find out home All my children and One life to live are doing on the internet. Haven’t missed a show since they came back on.

  • PatF

Mike thanks for the feedback about YR, but since I’ve been a fan since the late 70′s, I’m very aware of its ratings trends.

I tend to be positive because there is always so much negativity on this site. I don’t trash the other shows, but do hate it when people bash just to bash.

So the FACT that all shows are up both over last year and last week…that’s something that should be the focus.

  • Sophie

I’m loving GH it’s gotten better the last couple weeks. The 50 celebration was so good. It’s so good to see the vets! And they have been on alot more lately. It’s sad so many actors from Days are going, or benched. Sad to be losing Will in Dec. You guys have been saying how good Days is, so I just turned it on to see what all the comotion was about. Maybe today wasn’t as good, cuz I turned it off. Glad to see the ratings are up!

  • sedgrick

Wow did this person just underhandedly talk bad about Days wow that was a cheap shot.

  • sedgrick

@Sophie that was a really cheap shot talking bout how GH has been good the talk bad about Days cause obviously Days is doing better than GH if it is beating it and I wouldn’t have said that if you didn’t throw such a cheap shot at Days who is amazing.

  • Steve

The networks look at certain things and are going to compare it to one year ago. Since GH’s gains are up over one year ago that is a positive despite the haters like Mike I cannot control my Diabetes and JayTN

  • Bex

I don’t think anyone gets to dictate the topic of conversation. If you wish to lobby praise towards any of the shows, then you’re very much entitled that, however this is a public message board, and as long as you aren’t verbally attacking other posters (like some) then I don’t see the problem.

Just because someone chooses to focus on the numbers overall doesn’t mean they are just bashing. Ten people on a message board ranting about a show doesn’t mean much to the execs over at ABC.

  • Mike

    Pat F,

I love Y&R too and always will. Even more than B&B which I also love.

I am just a numbers person at heart. I love to look at the numbers, the trends, and look at what factors might contribute to them.

As far as being positive or negative — both are needed. It is what makes up the variety of a message board. And sorry but there is a big difference in just being negative and bashing.

I tend to look at things more from a realist nature. That is just who I am.

  • Derrick

Sophie, where do you hear about Will leaving in December???? Did you mean Chad?

And yes there is so much negativity on this board!!

  • Sophie

I read it on the boards and One of the magazines. He wants to leave in Dec. But Chad is leaving, and they benched Drake. I love Drake, and I don’t like how Days treats him. Days has only beat GH 4 times since last July. And two times it’s been in the last month. I just don’t see it being as good as GH. Maybe since I’ve watched GH since the beginning, and know everyone. Where on Days there are alot of people they could get rid of, and bring some of the vets back!

  • PatF

Everyone can post at their will. I never said they couldn’t.

I just choose to be positive.

    So have at it.

  • Jack

Nice to see things picking up.

  • 4hourglass

    @Sophie

The DAYS storyline calls for Drake being sidelined. The actor playing Chad
is saying goodbye after four years. Chandler Massey (Will) is undecided, but
if he does quit, his last airdate would be in April.

No matter what, DOOL is very equipped to handle things. The writing is extremely
good. Just ask Eileen Davidson along with other vets. The show is very diverse,
using young and old, including very young and pardon my saying-much older actors.

The writing includes the rich, the poor and the middle class. It includes gay as well
as straight. There are the saints and the sinners(just ask Eileen Davidson) and ths
always struggling grays(people stuck between saint and sinner). The families are
diverse and everybody in every family is connected with everybody else. When sh**
goes down, it is causing all kinds of trouble for lots of people. The structure is like
a beautiful jigsaw puzzle with every piece fitting togather, functioning as one.

I think I just fell in love with Days of our Lives again! I hope people are witnessing
an art that will survive way longer than me. An art should be appreciated, not
    wasted.

Anyone who tunes in just for one episode can’t grasp the whole scope of things!
That would take at least a month, but you would possibly be hooked in a week.
