I will go ahead and mention this news item…OWN will broadcast AMC and OLTL episodes for 10 weeks beginning July 15. I don’t know if these episodes will start from day one, although I assume they will since they will be airing four days a week.

My only question is why isn’t OWN airing the two soaps back-to-back instead of having AMC air at 1:00 PM and OLTL at 3:00 PM?

It is kind of ironic that OWN, which is ran by Oprah Winfrey, jumps on the AMC/OLTL bandwagon now. Especially after soap fans implored her to save the soaps when ABC first canceled them.

    My fixes for GH:

    1. Lure Steve Burton back – BUT write his character in balance with others
    2. Kill off Kiki, Sabrina, Silas, Connie/Kate, Olivia and Franco. They can keep RH, but he can’t be Franco.
    3. Bring back Tamara Braun & pair her with Sonny
    4. Keep Britt & Dr O – keep Britt away from Patrick
    5. Write Patrick as the smart Dr he is. Let him date Elizabeth
    6. Bring back adventure, romance, suspense
    7. Hire a love interest for Maxie
    8. Bring back Alcazar, Robert, Zander, Jax, Alan, Emily, Georgie & Jake
    9. Resolve Robin’s & Robert’s story.
    10. Fire RC!

The big difference that separates this from the last time Jay is that Oprah is not responsible for the production of the shows this time. It benefits her if the ratings are good. She gets back in the good graces of soap fans, gets good ratings and good will for her network, and someone else is fronting the bill for the production of the shows.

To me there is a big difference in being responsible for the complete production costs and just licensing the programs.

As to the time slots, AMC will compete with Y&R as far as network soaps, and OLTL will not compete with any unless some stations are still airing some of the soaps later in the day. Here they are not. (I am assuming these are Eastern times listed.

But isn’t Carly supposed to be part of the next big super couple….at least that is what I am reading on message boards. Franco and Carly are supposed to be the new it couple. I mean they are already bouncing around the couple names.

  • Mike

As to that last thing, I am assuming they have rewritten parts of Franco’s story….haven’t read or cared to see. But I was watching GH back then. I just cannot imagine that Carly could even fall in love or even want to sleep with the man who had her son raped.

I was just stunned when I started seeing the posts about Carly and Franco getting together.

    Ok, my fixes for GH.

    1. Reunite Patrick and Robin, and send them off for a happy ending.
    2. Focus a lot more on Mac, Felicia, Monica, Lucy, Scott, Luke, Tracy, Laura, Kevin, Liz, AJ, and Nikolas.
    3. Get rid of Silas, Franco, Kiki, Spinelli, Connie, Olivia, Brad, and Shawn (I also think a serial killer plot is in order).
    4. Reign in RC. He can and has worked magic, but it ain’t happening right now.
    5. Make Milo gay, bring back Bobbie and Lucas, and put Felix in a love triangle with Lucas and Milo.
    6. Resolve baby disaster (Maxie/Britt/Lulu/Dante) ASAP.
    7. Lulu/Maxie/Dante triangle.
    8. If you keep Sabrina, put her with Michael, then bring back Brenda pregnant with his kid.
    9. Let Morgan be involved with younger set, and age one of Liz’s kids to get all up in that mess too.
    10. Let Sam get involved with a Carly/AJ/Sonny quadrangle.
    11. Bring back Lucky (as his character sucks on Nashville anyway).

Loving GH right now (speaking as an 18 year old, heterosexual male) but the writing can be really, really bad.

Example: they spend a week obsessing over characters accidentally shooting another character and how it’s going to impact every character on the show. Then, miraculously, there’s another shooter and the characters that agonized over their fates for that week are off the hook and back to normal.

Oh, did I mention the character that was accidentally shot near the heart is perfectly fine? Maybe next time she has a “vision” she should, you know, just not jump in the way.

(P.S. I realize it sounds ridiculous to suggest I like it even with bad writing, but God help me- I do. More Luke, Laura, AJ and their adventures; less tramps and their weird pregnancies from doctors.)

  • MBmomof3

@Philip, I like GH when the writing is bad. I love it more when the writing is good. It has so much potential to be great, it’s disappointing when it’s not. I still watch and support it. Better than the Phelps/Guza years IMO.

  • Philip

@MBmomof3, I am only a new fan. I’ve mostly been a Y&R fan but somewhere around February I started watching the General Hospital reruns after Y&R on SOAPNet. I can’t speak to any phenomenal writing I’ve seen, but I still like it.

Some bad writing is okay though. I really am enjoying the Franco story, even if it is not very realistic. Love Roger Howarth, too.

  • MBmomof3

@Philip, I’m a longtime Roger Howarth fan going back to his original run as Todd on OLTL. Glad you’re enjoying the soaps. I started watching Y&R when they began showing it on SOAPnet and have been a faithful viewer ever since. I’m going to miss SOAPnet. I guess my DVR will be very full.

Days nailed it when they brought back Eileen Davidson. Kristen (and Nicole) are the most entertaining thing on Daytme TV.

  • Philip

@MBmomof3 Yep. SOAPnet is still here for now (sans Y&R), though.
