Devious Maids Premiere

via press release:

Lifetime’s all-new drama Devious Maids (#DeviousMaids) averaged 2.0 million Total Viewers in its premiere last night.  Starring Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Dania Ramírez (Entourage), Roselyn Sánchez (Without a Trace), Edy Ganem (Livin’ Loud) and Judy Reyes (Scrubs) as five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, Devious Maids also averaged 865,000 Adults 25-54 viewers, 826,000 Adults 18-49 viewers, 662,000 Women 25-54 viewers and 633,000 Women 18-49 viewers, according to Nielsen Research.

Devious Maids centers on a close-knit group of maids who are bonded together by their jobs, life struggles and the melodramatic “upstairs-downstairs” universe that engulfs their employers.  Rosie (Ramírez), a widow who left her son back in Mexico when her husband died, works as the maid and nanny for a pair of self-absorbed and successful actors, Peri and Spence Westmore (Mariana Klaveno, True Blood, and Grant Show, Swing Town).  Aspiring singer Carmen (Sánchez), hopes that her pop star employer Alejandro (Matt Cedeño, Days Of Our Lives) can help jump-start her career, but Odessa (Melinda Page Hamilton, Mad Men), his very loyal housekeeper and her boss, will stop at nothing to stand in her way.  Zoila (Reyes) is the senior maid for Genevieve Delatour (Susan Lucci, All My Children), a co-dependent, emotionally unstable wealthy woman.  She works alongside her teen daughter Valentina (Ganem), who has a crush on Genevieve’s handsome son, Remi (Drew Van Acker, Pretty Little Liars).

In last night’s premiere, the women turned to one another for support when their friend and fellow maid Flora (Paula Garcés, CSI Miami) was brutally murdered at the home of her employers, Evelyn and Adrian Powell (Rebecca Wisocky, American Horror Story, and Tom Irwin, Grey’s Anatomy), at one of the largest society events of the year.  Meanwhile, newcomer Marisol (Ortiz) was hired to clean the home of Taylor and Michael Stappord (Brianna Brown, Homeland, and Brett Cullen, Damages), a newlywed couple with a complicated love history.  But Marisol has ulterior motives and when someone she loves becomes wrapped up in Flora’s murder, she goes undercover to learn the truth.

Inspired by the hit telenovela, Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar, Devious Maids is produced by ABC Studios.  The series was created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and is executive produced by Cherry, Sabrina Wind (Desperate Housewives), Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Paul McGuigan (Scandal), Larry Shuman (Kissing Miranda), David Lonner, John Mass and Televisa USA’s Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia.

    cont..

    Then again, I was a huge fan of Desperate Housewives. So I’m biased.
    Really miss DH. Never missed an episode.

  • Matt

    I think that if it can stay around this number that it will be fine – it is up there with The Client List and for Lifetime is decent (IF IT CAN STAY AROUND THESE NUMBERS). I do think the potential is there for the numbers to grow in coming weeks. A lot of my friends didn’t watch it last night because they had already seen it online, but will be watching next week. I also think a lot of people will tune in more so in coming weeks as they realize Susan Lucci is on the show. She was not seen in ANY promos, so unless you follow her or were following stories on the show, I know a lot of people who were surprised when they saw her on it.

  • BxActor

    That’s good for lifetime

  • Oliver

    Wow, that’s much lower than I expected.

  • Bryce Novarro

    That’s actually good for Lifetime. Demo wise this actually beats the last new episodes of The Client List, Army Wives. and Dance Moms. I reliz this is just the first episode but some shows do maintain or grow on their premier ratings.

  • Charmed

    No mention of Diva :( I hope it didn’t do bad, but omitting it from the press release can’t be good.

  • DenverDean

    Considering all the promo and ZERO competition last night, I’d say it’s below LT’s expectations. Obviously, next week will tell a better story.

  • One

    DERP! Thought for sure that Devious Maids would at least best Crossing Lines.

    On the flipside though, this does seem a minor win for the IQ of America.

    Also not appreciating the feeding of the whole “Online preview dilutes night one audience” story in Sara’s earlier comment. That’s pure myth.

  • Fred

    So far Susan Lucci’s role is very small.

    The other housewives seem to be have bigger parts.

    Obviously the maids are the main attraction here anyway.

    Hope to see more of Lucci soon.

  • B

    Diva did well from the early numbers, it looks like. Better total viewers than Devious.

  • Chris

    No competition? Falling skies and crossing isn’t competition? *shrugs. I wasn’t expecting much though.

  • Ron

    This is really bad for lifetime given all the promo and the auspices.

    And Bryce Navarro said it did better than recent Army Wives and Client List episodes, is half right. Viewers and demo numbers below Army Wives, but on par with Client List.

    Fact is, numbers will only go down…

  • B

    TVLine reports Diva got 2.2 million.

  • Michael

    I saw the pilot about a month ago. Not too shabby, next week will be the real test!

  • Bryce Novarro

    @Ron doesn’t 826,000 translate do a 0.8 demo? The last new episode of The Client List got a 0.7 and the last new Army Wives also got a 0.7.

  • MM

    Lets be clear,Any Cable Network would love 2 Million Viewers!!

    But Lifetime is one of the Big Time Cable Network they probably was hoping it would do even better!!

    So,the numbers are not bad,but a Big Boy Network like Lifetime it should have Premeired stronger! But that is contingent upon the viewers salivated at the mouth to watch this.

  • B

    @Bryce Novarro

    No, it’s about a 0.7, but a low 0.7. A 1.0 is around 1.2 million viewers A1849.

  • Bryce Novarro

    @B thanks for the clarification.

  • Ron

    @B @Bryce Navarro

    And Variety reports that translates to a 0.65, so who knows which way it’ll swing in the finals, either 0.6 or 0.7…

    Good for Diva, though, shocking it got more viewers than Maids.

  • B

    @Ron

    Yes, these are just prelim numbers. It could swing either way in the finals we get tomorrow morning.
