MIAMI – June 24, 2013 – Last night the sky was the limit for the contestants who took the stage in the second Battle Round of Telemundo’s “La Voz Kids” which delivered its best night ever reaching more than 2,700,000 total viewers and outranking Univision’s “Parodiando” with a 30% lead, according to Nielsen’s fast national ratings.  Six new winners from [states] now have the chance to compete in the Live Shows, the next and final phase of the competition.  Coaches Paulina Rubio, Prince Royce and Roberto Tapia once again felt the pressure of choosing only one winner from their teams in each of the evening’s battles.  Viewers can find exclusive content at and follow the show on,,, and Hashtags #LVK, #TeamTapia, #TeamRubio and #TeamRoyce.  Zeebox users can also enjoy a “second screen” experience via

#TeamTapia started out strong in the first battle of the evening with a performance of ‘YO NO SE MAÑANA’ by 14-year-old Hugo from California, 11-year-old Wendy from Florida and 14-year-old Christian from Puerto Rico. Prince Royce was so impressed that he called an emergency meeting with #TeamRoyce. “I’m glad to see that Prince and Paulina recognize that I have a very strong team,” Roberto Tapia said proudly as he named Hugo the winner of the battle. The highlight of #TeamTapia’s second battle was a standing ovation by all the coaches at the end of a performance of ‘DOMINO’ by Valentina (age 14, Oklahoma), Jeidimar (12, Puerto Rico) and Thais (14, Florida). Prince Royce even wondered out loud where he was during the Blind Auditions, when he missed the chance to choose these three fantastic voices for his team. “It hurts me to leave two great voices behind, but this is a competition and we have to follow the rules,” Roberto Tapia noted as he named Jeidimar the battle winner.

#TeamRubio shined as Kim, 11 and Axel, 10 (both from Florida) and Andrea, a 13-year-old from California, wowed the audience with ‘OYE MI AMOR.’ Paulina praised the effort by all three contestants, but ultimately chose Kim as the winner, adding, “Tonight, Kim gave it her all; she was magical.” Next, she showcased the “girl power” of three young singers – 10-year-old Jennifer from Puerto Rico, 9-year-old Alesiram from California and 12-year-old Jessica from Texas – with the song ‘A PURO DOLOR.’ The girls gave a lesson in greatness to their peers, but only one could leave a winner. “Jennifer, you have an exceptional voice,” Paulina said, selecting the 10-year-old the winner of the battle. “When you go up on stage, you are larger than life, and the audience has to look at you.”

Prince Royce entered this second Battle Round with “los niños bachateros”: Jamil and Ezequiel, 11-year-olds from New York, and Geoffrey, a 12-year-old from New Jersey. Royce acknowledged that the rehearsals were difficult, but by the time they took the stage Sunday evening he was able to say, “Now you are ready to battle.” The three put on a great show with ‘AMORES COMO EL NUESTRO,’ and at the end of the performance he expressed pride in all three boys: “I learned a lot from all of you,” he declared, “but the winner is Geoffrey.” His team ended the evening on a high note with a performance of ‘SI NOS DEJAN’ by Kimberly and Sean, 11-year-olds from California, and Virginia, an 11-year-old from Florida. “Sean, you are a gentleman and you have the charisma to charm the audience,” said Royce as he named Sean the winner of the evening’s final round.

The innovative format used in “La Voz Kids” features three stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds and, finally, the Live Performance Shows. During the blind auditions, the coaches’ decisions are based solely on voice. The coaches have their backs to the participants; they hear them perform but cannot see them. If a coach is impressed by the participant’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the participant for his/her team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel so that he/she can face the participant he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes their button, the participant is allowed to choose which coach to work with. If no coach chooses them, the participant is eliminated from the competition.

Once the teams are set, the battle is on. The coaches dedicate themselves to developing their team, giving the participants advice and sharing the secrets of their success along with help from celebrity mentors. During the Battle Rounds the coaches pick three of their own team members against each other to sing the same song in front of a studio audience.

In the final performance phase of the competition, the top participants from each team will compete weekly against each other. The television audience and the coaches will decide who will stay in the competition. In the end, one will be named the winner of "La Voz Kids" and will receive a recording contract and a cash prize to support his/her education.
