I should also add that the same rump audience that provided about a 5 million series average under Versus is the same audience showing up this year under the new NBC national coverage – that’s why the average audience size has not changed by much this year from previous years under Versus. Which tells you that its almost largely hockey fans with a few interested spectators that follow hockey in America …. the effect of wider distribution this year only confirms this. Que Lastima!!! :(

Is it like the best summer premiere of the century or something?

  • A.C.

I think UNDER THE DOME struck a chord with viewers because we are seeing something that we havn’t seen before espcially on CBS the land of COPS, LAWYERS, DOCTORS, FORESENIC TEAMS and CRIME FIGHTERS.

The real critics on here: was it really good? The cast looks lame.

  • networkman

WOW! I am really impressed with Under the Dome. I love that a scripted program was able to garner 3.3 demo @10pm in the Summer. Also it was able to pull close to 14 million viewers. I am happily surprised.

Also I see that The Bachelorette is starting to grow as usual. And Raising Hope is repeating better than the other FOX comedies.

  • Liam

Under the Dome did a lot better than I expected. I was predicting a 1.4 and around 5-6 million viewers. Hopefully next week there wont be a significant drop.

  • forg

    Bachelorette finally hit that 2.0

Great for Under the Dome! I hope it stays steady, I want the broadcast networks to be competitive on summer too!

  • Tom

Loved UOD. But, I’m never again going to think about beefsteak in the same way.

  • MichaelChickless

    UOD? Rump audience?

  • Tom

OK. It’s UTD. Thanks for the ribbing.

  • RS

To the ageist, why yes, old people in nursing homes hate science fiction. We didn’t give you H.G. Wells, the Twilight Zone, Heinlein, Asimov, Doc Smith, Roald Dahl, Herman Hess, Aldous Huxley, C.S. Lewis, George Orwell, Ted Sturgeon, the 30s penny-dreadfuls, Star Trek, early Steven King, Fantastic Planet. Thank you, youngsters for giving us this genre (this is sarcasm).
Wow for Under the Dome. My summer viewing is almost better than the real season. I have Monday: Switched at Birth, Defiance, UTD; Tuesday: R & I, Perception; Wednesday: Babydaddy (OK, this is guilty pleasure. I’d watch the actor playing the older brother read from the dictionary.), Hot in Cleveland, the Exes.

  • RS

And how could I leave him out? Not science fiction, I guess, but the best fantasy writer EVER – Ray Bradbury.

That 3.3 rating for hockey is outstanding. Smashes NBC’s best ratings for Hockey. I know there are going to be haters for Hockey, but I don’t understand you, this is good for NBC. They have a sport property that is making them huge amounts of money. Think about it, they are only paying 200 million a year for the rights to broadcast Hockey. Every other sport, NBA, NFL and MLB its billions networks fork over every year to those leagues. NBC is making out like a bandit and their deal last for 10 years.

This is all money for NBC and with the ratings the way it is, the NHL is here to stay much to the hater’s disappointment.

NBC I have to give it to you guys, you stepped up when ESPN could of spent more money, but they wanted to focus on the NFL and spent billions on them. 200 million is small change, I really don’t understand why ESPN didn’t try to offer more but NBC got Hockey cheap and now are reaping the benefits for it. Huge win for NBC.

People are actually ripping the hockey ratings? Now that being said; I wasn’t. Watching it and could care less about either of those teams. Those ratings are outstanding for a sport most people claim to be just merely a regional niche sport. These games made money for Nbc ina huge way.
