And this from Robert & Bill explains the 18-34 and 18-49 better than anything I have ever seen:

    ******

I know it is counter-intuitive for some people, but the focus on the younger age demographics isn’t a function of spending power or ageism, it’s a function of advertisers desire to reach younger viewers, and relative availability. It’s much, much easier to reach a 60 year old than a 25 year old via television advertising because on average a higher percentage of 60 year olds watch a higher percentage of television than 25 year olds.

Relatively speaking, the 60 year old is easy to reach and the 25 year old far more scarce. The relative scarcity of younger viewers increases both the focus and advertising premiums paid for younger viewers.

Whether this is good, bad, right or wrong, I can’t really say. I can say, at least for now, that’s the way it is.

It’s really not just about how old you are or how much money you have to spend. It’s also about how easy it is to reach you. The easier it is to reach you, the less advertisers are willing to pay for you, the harder it is to reach you, the more they are willing to pay.

I don’t know how the 2 shows will do on OWN. OWN’s rating have been going up lately. In fact several of the cable stations have been increasing.

There are so many factors to play into this. One being that the shows will air after they have already aired in another forum so will be repeats to many.

And it will depend on how many people will even know about them being back on OWN. I have not seen any promos about them being back there except online. I’m sure OWN is promoting them on their channel but they need to be getting promos on other channels as well.

    Great job, Days!

Too bad for GH’s slide down. I have to say GH deserves the drop though.

  • Kayla

I would disagree with you about changing Days opening credits. This nostalgic opening remains iconic and much beloved and should not be changed in my opinion. In fact, I would love to see the closing credits go back to how they used to be with the beautiful Days theme playing in the background. I miss that.

It’s possible that AMC & OLTL online are hurting GH’s ratings. Because they are SO MUCH BETTER than GH, IMO, so why settle for “hamburger” when you can have “steak”? I’ll bet a lot of OLTL viewers started watching GH last year when Todd, John & Starr came on. But now they can watch MANY of their faves, AND Todd (with Blair!), so why bother with GH? Me, I’m a long-time GH fan, but I’ve defected to OLTL. GH is unrecognizable with its emphasis on Silas, Kiki, nuFranco, Sabrina, Brit, Felix, Taylor, WHERE are the VETS?! I want to see THEM have a FRONT-BURNER storyline! Not just show up once in awhile.

Y&R has been great the past two weeks BUT does anyone really care about this Rose/Blogger sub plot? I’m enjoying Lauren and Michaels dates.

  • Bex

Nice press release for DOOL, will be interesting to see the ratings this week.

  • robert sprague

I agree the oltl characthers are not doing any thing for gh hate them don’t like morgan lulu still not to good . frank and ron have to pick it up or leave. maybe there aone trick clown that happen for the nurses ball . I don’t care about britt or Sabrina and Patrick felix or his sister or tj or sean what is gh and abc doing paying all its lo cost actors just to make a show. if you want a good product you pay a little extra and that means using the vets and where is Robert he needs to be home in port Charles pronto a long with bobbi what im saying gh more laura scott lucy luke alexis tracy Felicia mac anna duke micheal sam and carly. rating will go threw the roof and of course more heather love her.

  • diana

    completely agree, robert sprague

I tune in to GH & Days occasionally. I’ve never watched the CBS soaps. For the person that said cancel these stupid shows…I’ve always wondered to myself why some people think soaps are stupid, while they watch other fictional things. It’s ALL fiction, whether it’s Superman, Spiderman, a movie or a soap. It’s just a story.

I remember being massively hooked on Days and GH in the mid 80s to the mid 90s. Now – not so much.

  • Mike

It is no different than soap fans lashing out at other forms of entertainment and calling them stupid.

If we soap fans don’t want our shows called names or have people wish them to be cancelled then we shouldn’t do it to other shows.

Soap fans can’t even stop with just wishing other shows to be cancelled though. They constantly feel the need to bash other soaps just in the realm of thinking that it makes their show look better to point out the weaknesses of other shows.

What I love more than anything else is the way some fans even defend their show.

I actually read this on a board the other day. Yes it is bad but it has been worse.

They might as well have said, “Watch my show it is not as crappy as it has been.”
