NBC Wins Friday with 'Dateline' and 'Ann Curry Reports' Taking 6 of 6 Half-hours in 18-49, 25-54 and Total Viewers

NBC is #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox for Friday night in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, taking six of six half-hours among those networks in all three categories with the top two shows of the night, “Ann Curry Reports: A Face in the Crowd” and  “Dateline NBC.”
  • Dateline NBC” (1.2/5 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) reported its top Friday 18-49 rating since May 31 and biggest Friday audience since June 7.  Week to week, “Dateline” is up 20% in both adults 18-49 (to a 1.2 rating from a  1.0) and adults 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.5) and up 19% in total viewers (6.080 million vs. 5.112 million).  From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Dateline” grew by 60% in 18-49 rating (to a 1.6 from a 1.0) and 47% or 2.4 million persons in total viewers (7.5 million vs. 5.1 million).
 
  • “Dateline” is the #1 show of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers and #2 in 18-49, behind only “Ann Curry Reports.”
 
  • At 10 p.m. ET, “Ann Curry Reports: A Face in the Crowd” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) ranked as the #1 show of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and 25-54 and #2 in total viewers, behind only “Dateline.”  From its first half-hour to its second, “Ann Curry Reports” grew by 17% in 18-49 rating (to a 1.4 from a 1.2), 11% in adults 25-54 (2.0 vs. 1.8) and 7% in total viewers (6.2 million vs. 5.8 million).
 
  • “Ann Curry Reports: A Face in the Crowd” is #1or tied for #1 in the slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54; men 18-49 and 25-54; women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54; and total viewers.
 
  • In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Ann Curry Reports” delivered a 33% margin of victory among ABC, CBS and NBC in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 2.0 rating vs. a 1.5 for ABC’s second-place “20/20”).
 
  • NBC’s 1.3 for the night matches the top Friday average for ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox since May 17 (1.6 for ABC).  In total viewers, NBC’s 6.048 million is the biggest average audience for any of those networks since May 10 (8.164 million for CBS).

    Yay for Ann!!! So happy for her. Those Today Show folks were wrong to do her like they did. I hope good things for her and that she does the right stuff going forward.

    I am glad. I hope this makes NBC realise that their treatment of Ann was wrong. They should have given her a longer time before demoting her.

    I really like Ann, but I don’t think she was a good fit for the TODAY job. This kind of reporting is definitely her strongest skill.

    Ann was way better that that Today Show crap anyway. Glad to see she landed on her feet and is doing well.

    Take that Matt, go Ann. I think Ann deserves to do these type of reports than anyone on The Today staff.

    I think this type of journalism is Ann’s strength. Congrats! I really liked that she allowed silence to reign after the interviewee said something poignant or sad. It is more respectful to allow the viewer to think about the words that were just uttered and the emotions behind them instead of having the journalist immediately jumping in with emotional response of his or her own, which Ann sometimes did on the Today show.
