Erin Andrews to Guest-Judge Next Week

Tonight, after America’s vote was revealed on So You Think You Can Dance, Brittany Cherry, Makenzie Dustman, Mariah Spears, Alan Bersten, Carlos Garland and Jade Zuberi were the three girls and three guys who received the fewest votes. After deliberating, the judges – Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and guest judge Christina Applegate – determined that Brittany Cherry and Carlos Garland would be sent home at the end of the show.

Lythgoe also reminded viewers that the third annual National Dance Day – an annual celebration that encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity – will take place on Saturday, July 27. For more information, please visit www.fox.com/dance.

Next week, on Tuesday, July 9 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the competition continues when the Top 18 finalists: Jasmine Mason and Alan Bersten;  Mariah Spears and “BluPrint;” Makenzie Dustman and Paul Karmiryan; Hayley Erbert and Curtis Holland; Amy Yakima and “Fik-Shun”; Alexis Juliano and Nico Greetham; Jasmine Harper and Aaron Turner; Jenna Johnson and Tucker Knox; and Malece Miller and Jade Zuberi – compete once again for America and the judges, including guest judge Erin Andrews.

The new format is terrible. The two eliminated dancers still have to dance with their partner. Why not have everybody dance first, then reveal the bottom three boys and girls. That way they don’t have to dance for their lives, base it on last week’s results and this week’s dancing.

My gut feel is that it is because of the new voting App. This way the programmers at Fox can make sure those 2 names are taken out and that none of the 20 votes that can be apportioned can be used on them. This is a terrible reason to subject the dancers to that though and I think having fans pissed throughout the entire show rather than just at the end is a good way to lose viewers.

I have a feeling this might be the last season considering what happened last month to the 19 Media and Fox Reality Programming executives. I think the purge there will continue as new execs look to make their own mark.
