Again, to jump on the GH ratings bomb bandwagon with my two cents, my opinion reflects several other posters.
Bring back the vets, Scorpio and Heather for starters.
Bring back mystery (maybe a serial killer) and adventure along with the romance and get rid of the mob (Sonny, Shawn, etc.)
Fire the new talentless acting, no depth, bimbo characters – Morgan, Kiki(just hearing the name “Kiki” is like nails on a chalk board), Sabrina, Ellie, TJ, Dr. Silas, that Brad guy.
Get rid of the borefest characters that no one cares about – Carly, Olivia, Alexis, Shawn, Lulu, Dante’s Inferno and Nicholas.
Feature more talent (including the few newbies that are good): Mac, Felicia, Tracy, Luke, Felix, Anna, Duke, Rafe, AJ, Michael, Britt, Lucy and Spinelli.
Can’t stand Sonny. Save some budget money and send him off to Pentonville or to Rome with Brenda. Better yet, kill him off!

  • jonboyelk

@Robert Before you lost me with your huge run-on post you said how it was nice to see Mac, Felicia, Anna and Duke. That’s the pro
blem—all we do is see them for a few brief moments once a week if we are lucky. When is the last time we saw Monica? The vets are used like extras and are not front and center in any story. And I would think the character of Brad would be an insult to gay men. Shame on Carlavati.

  • Mike

I thought from what I had read online that the mob had been greatly decreased since Cartini took over.

Just as an outsider now it would seem to me the biggest problem would new faces and characters. Every time I turn around it seems like I read of some new face or new character coming to GH. Just read where William deVry is going to be playing a new character.

It seems like the show has added more new characters in the last few months than any of the 4 shows.

  • jonboyelk

@Mike Exactly. Everything JFP was blasted for RC is doing. And as far as the mob, its the lamest mob ever and Donny is a joke as a mob boss.

  • robert sprague

pls ron and frank less sonny so sick of the mob storyline enough aready give it a rest more than 2 days a week of sonny is to much abc going to kill gh with the mob story . its the same thing over and over.

  • Mike

I just saw where GH is going to be on The Soup again — for some kind of baby death or something. I didn’t recognize the name of the character since I don’t watch.

I’m sure that Ron C. will tweet how happy he is over it again.

It just amazes me that a show that was once honored by organizations like the Red Cross, Susan B. Korman, and some others for their AIDS story and stuff with social issues and the treatment of them…now has it’s biggest honor being constantly featured on The Soup.

I think the only soap to ever be featured as much as GH was Passions. When I used to watch The Soup it was always about making fun of the reality and talk shows like Jerry Springer.

  • MBmomof3

Headline today on MSN.com: SOAPS ARE HOT AGAIN! Love it!

@Mike, I happen to be a big fan of The Soup. They have heavily featured B&B over the years more than any other soap, although GH seems to be their new favorite. Personally, I have no problem with how they poke fun at “My Stories” as I try not to take myself too seriously. But, that’s just me.

As far as GH goes…Please bring back Monica Q and have her take her house back from these gawdawful crew of strangers STAT! And while they are at it, bring back Heather and Robert Scorpio. If I see one more newbie added to this bloated cast, my FF button will be permanently stuck.

Guess it’s just me but I always loved the Mob stuff on GH. I am a HUGE Soprano’s fan so that might be why. But that being said the mob stuff on GH is a joke since Steve Burton left. I think they should recast his character.

I only watch the Sam scene’s on y tube. I can’t stomach GH. There are way to many new people who I don’t give a crap about.

Since Ron & Frank took over we have lost so many talented actors. The Zacharras Anthony & Johnny, Jason Morgan, Steve Webber, The real Lulu, Connie/Kate, Kristina Corinthos, Spinelli on recurring. I see a pattern here. The only people who will be left on this crappy show will be the one’s Ron & Frank hired and his OLTL pets.

I wish they would get rid of Ron & Frank or at least hire someone writer’s to help so this show doesn’t get cancelled. So sad I have watched this show for 30 years but now I can’t stomach it.

  • Mike

    @MBMomOf3

I used to love The Soup too. But for some reason just quit watching it a few years back.

I had forgotten they used to feature B&B a lot too. B&B is one of those soaps for many years that was so over the top just like Passions was. When Brad Bell started trying to take B&B more seriously so that it could get some Emmy love I didn’t like the serious stories on there because they were so out of place. I’ve kind of accepted a more serious side to B&B now but I still don’t like when they jump back and forth.

I like for a show to have some kind of identity and not just bounce all over the place.

GH for years was known for it’s excellence. I quit watching some time before Garin Wolfe took over as I felt it was losing it’s way. But I still think of GH as that show. I just hate to see it so ridiculed on The Soup.

  • Bex

@Mike The thing is the head writer of GH is an idiot, he actually post links via Twitter to clips of The Soup when GH is featured. Even he knows his writing is a running joke.

@MBMomOf3 They have already hired William DeVry who apparently now has a four year contract, yet they choose to write off KS, and put BA on recurring status. Rumor is Peter Reckell is also heading there. GH is going to look mighty different come next year, as I expect more to be leaving. GH will be a place where the Livers, and the newbies are catered to.

  • steven m. burton

Saw a promo that featured a storyline heavy with the Sonny character. Doesn’t this show ever learn? GH was a cellar dweller for years because it had become the “mob soap.” Numbers perked up nicely last year when that crap was put on the backburner. Bringing veterans and some wild and woolly plotlines brought back viewers. The writers for this show mystify me. First they force these OLTL actors, OLTL was always my favorite soap, into new roles at the drop of hat and in kind of ridiculous storylines and the numbers drop like a rock. Theyn to remedy that situation, they appear to be going back to the mafia stuff. I hate to say it, mainly because I really enjoy the acting talents of Howarth and Alderson, but the whole Franco and Kiki mess needs to go and these actors need to return to Llanview. GH needs to bring back the veterans and build the stories that made this show such a hit. In other words, honor the tradition of General Hospital and viewers will return.

  • robert sprague

I agree steven enough of the mob and sonny more traditional story and more vets you hear us frank and ron and abc wake up and honer your longest running show. now peter reckell wheres Tristan rogers Jackie zeman and sean and tiffany . abc if you don’t wise up there will be no more gh the show that was so great at one point. or is that what you want abc take some control over this show to bad the great Gloria monty wasn’t still with us she was amazing with gh .

  • MBmomof3

    @steven m. burton…I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I love Howarth, and I am a fan of Alderson, Easton, M. West, & W. DeVry, but this is too much of a “good” thing. I’m trying to reserve judgment and hang in there to see where GH is going with this, but it is getting tough to watch. As a longtime soap fan, I know the shows have peaks and valleys, but in this day and age of TV programming, they don’t have the benefit of time to correct storyline. They do have a pool of very talented cast to choose from. It seems to have lost direction since the 50th and the return of the OLTL 3. I will continue to watch and hope for the best.

In the meantime…Loving DOOL, enjoying Y&R most days (Neil’s storyline is a huge snoozefest :( and don’t catch B&B enough to have an opinion. I am thoroughly enjoying OLTL and AMC online. Go Soaps!

  • Bex

SOD has a cover story claiming that Franco will some how start to believe that he is Jason. You just have to laugh at the shenanigans at GH. They expected viewers to just roll over and bypass the fact that no one in PC realizes that the Livers look like other people. Why even go down this ridiculous road? Isn’t Jason dead? Roger is a talented actor, but unfortunately he’s still portraying Todd, please give that man something better.

  • CarolAnn

I hate Sonny on GH. Why are they giving him a bigger story line again? I thought Ron C. wanted to get away from all the pointless violence. I’d be very happy to see Maurice Bernard sent packing. His character and the Mafia emphasis were bad for GH ratings to begin with. I’m tired of Maurice Bernard and his Sonny character.

  • Mike

As far behind as Nielsen is due to some type of problem it is no telling when we will get soap ratings this week. The syndicated ratings from Tuesday haven’t even been released yet.

  • Mike

The SOD cover this week (didn’t read it just saw it posted online)also says that Peter Reckell is coming to GH. Who is he going to play?

Are they also still saying that Michelle Stafford may be coming too? I saw that on the cover of Soaps In Depth at the grocery store.

Is GH trying to get in Guiness World Records for the largest TV cast assembled.

  • Bex

Peter is rumored to be playing Sam’s father, which I feel sorry for him because Kelly Monaco has lackluster talent. The MS rumor I don’t believe really has much weight, mainly because I believe it’s been debunked already by someone close to her.

GH can’t even write decent stories for the cast that they do have, so I don’t even understand why they are adding more, while releasing fan favorites, which leads me to believe many more long time cast members will be let go.

  • jonboyelk

Very worried about GH. Didn’t JFP clean house years ago? Seems like the current regime is determined to do the same. For the first time since I started watching a year and a half ago I’ve been hitting fast forward and watching the whole thing in 20 minutes. I just don’t like all these pathetic new characters. And as a relatively new viewer I category nothing about the Georgie shocker.

  • Mike

    Jon Boy,

Phelps sort of cleaned house as you say. She phased out most of the vets who were bouncing back and forth between Port Charles and GH. And put so many of the other vets on recurring esp. Anna Lee (if I remember correctly it was her who did that). I forget now how many folks left or went to recurring in her first few years on the show.

Many say it was at the bidding of Brian Frons. But it was under her watch and she didn’t put up any fight in doing it. It was him for instance who wanted Genie Francis gone saying no one wanted to watch the happenings of a woman over 40 or something to that effect. But of course Francis is not the type of actress Phelps likes anyway.

You could say basically that is why CBS hired her at Y&R. Make the show cheaper. Which many of the ones Phelps cut when she first got at Y&R needed to go. But so far I have not been impressed with any of her new hires. Although I am liking the show overall better than I have in a long while.
