2Q 2013:

 

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” finished as the No. 1 morning program during the 2nd Quarter 2013 in both Total Viewers (5.501 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.017 million), according to Nielsen Media Research.  2Q13 stood as “GMA’s” first 2nd quarter victory in 18 years in Total Viewers and in 19 years Adults 25-54 – since 2Q95 and 2Q94.  In addition, 2Q13 represented “GMA’s” 4th consecutive quarter win in Total Viewer, its longest streak in nearly 20 years (since 4Q93 – 3Q94); and 3rd straight win in Adults 25-54, its best run in more than 21 years (since before 4Q91; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991).

 

Impressively, “GMA” ranked No. 1 in every week of 2Q13 (all 13 weeks) in Total Viewers, winning every week of the quarter for the 3rd consecutive quarter.  In Adults 25-54, “GMA” ranked No. 1 in 11 of 13 weeks.

 

“GMA” outdelivered NBC’s “Today” (4.712 million and 1.922 million) during 2Q13 by +789,000 Total Viewers and +95,000 Adults 25-54.  In fact, “GMA” scored its largest Total Viewer advantage over “Today” during any quarter in more than 21 years and biggest news demo lead during a 2nd quarter in 19 years – since before 4Q91; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991 and 2Q94, respectively.

 

For the 3rd consecutive 2nd quarter, “GMA” was up versus the year-earlier quarter (4.953 million, 1.919 million and 1.415 million, respectively, for 2Q12) in Total Viewers (+11%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%).  In fact, “GMA” marked its most-watched 2nd quarter in more than 21 years and most-watched quarter overall in more than 8 years – since before 4Q91; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991 and 1Q05, respectively.  In addition, “GMA” turned in its top 2nd quarter performance in 7 years in Adults 25-54 and in 5 years in Adults 18-49 – since 2Q06 and 2Q08, respectively.

 

During 2Q13, “GMA” nearly doubled the performance of CBS’ “Early Show” in both Total Viewers (+90%) and Adults 18-49 (+99%), while more than doubling in Adults 25-54 (+101%).  In addition, “GMA” outperformed the CBS program by its largest advantages during any quarter in 8 years in Total Viewers (2.606 million) and in nearly 7 years in Adults 25-54 (1.015 million) – since 2Q05 and 3Q06, respectively.

 

 

Week of June 24, 2013

 

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” attracted 5.070 million Total Viewers, 1.775 million Adults 25-54 and 1.229 million Adults 18-49 for the week of June 24, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research.  “GMA” outperformed NBC’s “Today” (4.633 million) by +437,000 Total Viewers to stand as the week’s No. 1 morning program in overall viewers.  In Adults 25-54, “GMA” was in a virtual tie for first with “Today,” as only 6,000 news demo viewers separated the two programs (1.775 million vs. 1.781 million).   Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached 24.4 million users last month. It is the No. 1 morning news website and beats Today.com by millions of users each month.

 

“GMA” has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in all 39 weeks of the season. In fact, the ABC morning newscast has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for more than 10 months (the last 45 weeks – since w/o 8/13/12).  Further, “GMA’s” 45 consecutive weeks at the top stand as its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 21 years – since before the 1991-92 season; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

 

For the 8th straight week, “GMA” grew year-to-year (4.604 million and 1.669 million, respectively, on w/o 6/25/12) in both Total Viewers (+10%) and Adults 25-54 (+6%)) – building on the year-ago week in overall viewers in all 39 weeks this season.   

 

Season to date, “GMA” stands as the No. 1 morning news program in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.  The ABC morning newscast is leading “Today” by its largest season margin in overall viewers (+663,000) in more than 21 years and in the adult news demo (+82,000) in 20 years – since before the 1991-92 season and the 1992-93 season, respectively; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

 

Season to date, “GMA” is up in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) versus its year-ago averages, growing the most in the key adult news demo (NBC’s “Today” is down -12%/-18%, respectively; CBS’ “This Morning” is up +12%/+2%, respectively). “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in 8 years and best Adult 25-54 performance in 5 years – since the 2004-05 and 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

 

“GMA” nearly doubled the performance of “CBS This Morning” across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+89%), Adults 25-54 (+97%) and Adults 18-49 (+95%).

    NBC still wins in the Adults 18 to 49 though. But good for GMA for winning in the 25-54 and in Total viewers.

    It is so weird that CBS is such a strong network for Late Morning games shows, daytime soaps and Primetime TV yet morning news is A distant last place against NBC and ABC news.

    I’m in the 25-54 group and have always watched GMA since college. Glad to see them picking up. It was always better than the Today Show, IMO, but with the current cast especially.
