ELISABETH HASSELBECK TO JOIN FOX NEWS CHANNEL AS

FOX & FRIENDS CO-HOST

Gretchen Carlson Moves to Daytime to Anchor Solo One-Hour Program

FOX News Channel (FNC) has signed Elisabeth Hasselbeck of ABC’s The View as co-host of top-rated FOX & Friends (6:00-9:00 AM ET), announced Bill Shine, Executive Vice President of Programming for FOX News.  She will join Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade on the curvy couch in mid-September. Current FOX & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson will now anchor a one-hour signature daytime program beginning in early fall.

In commenting on the announcement, FOX News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes said, “Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on The View.  She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

Hasselbeck added, "I have been a long-time fan of Fox & Friends and am excited to be joining their team in September as it is an honor to call the FOX News Channel my new television home.”

Since November 2003, Hasselbeck served as a co-host on the daytime Emmy award-winning talk show, The View, on ABC, created by Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie. She and her co-hosts were chosen as Time’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in May 2009 and in July 2009, the program was ranked #11 on Forbes’ “30 of the Most Influential Women in Media.” Additionally, she was a keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention in both 2004 and 2008, and has interviewed Presidents Bush, Clinton and Obama. Hasselbeck is the author of two New York Times bestsellers, The G-Free Diet and the cookbook, Deliciously G-Free and has also served as a contributor to ABC’s Good Morning America since 2010.

ABC’s Barbara Walters commented, “We have had ten wonderful years with Elisabeth and she will now be swimming in new waters.  We will miss her and wish her everything good.”

Regarding Carlson’s move to daytime, Ailes said, “Gretchen’s contribution to FOX & Friends is well-known and her strong interviewing skills make her a natural fit for our daytime programming.”

Carlson added, “I am excited to further advance my career and am thrilled to have the opportunity to host my own show in daytime and look forward to showcasing my skills as an interviewer and journalist in a more in depth manner.”

In June 2005, Carlson joined FNC and a year later, she became co-host of Fox & Friends. Prior to FNC, she served as a correspondent and co-anchor of CBS News’ Saturday Early Show.  Before her tenure there, Carlson served as an anchor/reporter for KXAS-TV (NBC) in Dallas, TX, WOIO-TV (CBS) in Cleveland, OH, WCPO-TV (ABC) in Cincinnati, OH, and WRIC-TV (ABC) in Richmond, VA. The recipient of the prestigious American Women in Radio and Television "Best Series" award for her 30-part series on domestic violence, Carlson also won two Emmy awards for her work at CBS News. Before embarking on a television career, she was the first classical violinist to be crowned Miss America in 1989.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour all-encompassing news service dedicated to delivering breaking news as well as political and business news.  A top five cable network, FNC has been the most watched news channel in the country for more than eleven years and according to Public Policy Polling, is the most trusted television news source in the country. Owned by 21st Century Fox, FNC is available in more than 90 million homes and dominates the cable news landscape, routinely notching the top ten programs in the genre.

Gee an intense conservative Republican moving to the racist, bigoted, Republican Fox New Channel…who didn’t see this one coming? First Paula Deen, now this!

  • TruthTeller

Thank God! I want Teresa Giudice or Kate Gosselin to replace Hasselbeck

  • mary deal vabce

I certainly hope she speaks slower. one of the reasons among many that I discontinued the View…she just talks so fast, she cannot be understood so why listen??? Another blonde!!!!!!

  • Samuel

Yikes. There goes ANY reason to watch ‘The View.’ I’ll be choosing HGTV’s new series, ‘Watching Paint Dry,’ instead.

  • Merp

Just like the media predicted, she wasn’t going announce her departure until she had a contract-signed job lined up.

  • AppleStinx

Pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. Gretchen Carlson gets 1 of the 2 hours from “America Live” while the second hour goes to Shep’s “Studio B” (it goes from 1 to 2 hours). Shep leaves the 7pm hour to Megyn Kelly. FNC’s new Fall primetime hours are expanded to include the 7pm hour. Primetime lineup: Megyn Kelly, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Greta van Susteren.

  • Doug

WOW, Dumb joins dumber on the couch…hilarious!

  • RJ

    AppleStinx,
That’d be a solid schedule for the network.

    @Dan,
There is nothing racist about Fox News. Are they slanted toward Republicans? Yeah, but they certainly are not racist. Take your incorrect comments (and rude to viewers of Fox News, such as myself) elsewhere. May I suggest Huffington Post? You’ll fit in over there.

  • E.S.

This makes the case that they should dump the “Fair & Balanced” slogan after 17 years. Even conservatives are starting to see that they give more airtime to Republicans than to Democrats, instead of defending them by saying “they give each side of the story” like a bunch of robots.

  • Rob R

Goodbye to “The View,” which will now deteriorate into a show talking about celebrities and tabloid news.

  • Malamute Dad

So nice to see that so many intolerant, ignorant and uninformed individuals have made posts slamming FOX news. I am confident that many have not even watched the network. Try it ….. you may learn something

  • Steven

I’m not surprised by this news!
The Fox News Channel is the perfect home for Elisabeth Hasselbeck!
I won’t miss her on “The View”, but good luck to her on “FOX & Freinds.”
I won’t be watching “FOX & Freinds”, never have and never will!

  • Ultima

    @AppleStinx

If Megyn Kelly moves to 7pm, it will be to anchor the FOX Report; there’s no way they drop their evening news program (and they can’t move it earlier).

If they actually want her in primetime doing commentary, it will be at 10pm instead of On the Record.

  • E.S.

    @Malamute Dad

I’ve watched Fox News. They did make an effort to be “Fair & Balanced” at one time, before George W. Bush was president and they became his cheerleaders. Yes, the other networks do seem to be slanted towards Democrats, but saying that Fox News “tells both sides of the story” is “ignorant and uninformed.”

  • Malamute Dad

I believe Bill O’Reilly may retire from the Factor, He could still have a role doing specials, commentary, etc.

Remember he stated about a year ago (if my memory is correct) that he had decided to retire but changed his mind because his staff/team would be out of work. He did not want to put them in that position during a difficult economy

And for the record, I know the economy is only marginally better since then

  • carigis

good change. I give it a few months before gretchen bombs by herself and her “solo” show is cancelled. glad to see Megyn on prime time. she’d got class.

  • carigis

ever notice the blur filter they use on Bill orielly. he must REALLY look old, I mean at this point I fell like Im watching through a muddy window everytime he is on.. but the guests are in HD..lol

  • Malamute Dad

Fox being Bush’s cheerleader! LMAO ….. and I am not the biggest fan of Bush. I am far more conservative than he is

Negative comments about Bush from conservatives on FOX include

    Hannity
    O’Reilly
    Krauthammer
    Steven Hayes
    Bill Kristol
    Eric Bolling
    Megyn Kelly

I could go on and on …..

  • colt13

Darn, I was hoping she would pull a reverse Robin Roberts and end up at ESPN.

I have no reason to watch The View anymore.

  • Dreamer

Elisabeth will probably fit right in.
She might get bored with people that agree with her all the time. haaha

I thought Greta was leaving for CNN or something.
And that Megyn would take her slot.
