DAN HELLIE JOINS NFL NETWORK
Two-Time Emmy Award-Winning Sports Anchor
to Host ‘NFL Total Access’
Two-time Emmy Award-winning sports anchor Dan Hellie has joined NFL Network to host the network’s signature show, NFL Total Access it was announced today. Hellie will begin work at NFL Network on August 5th.
Hellie (@DanHellie) joins NFL Network after seven years at the NBC affiliate (WRC-TV News 4) in Washington, D.C, where he served as the Sports Director and weekday sports anchor. As part of his seven years covering the Washington Redskins, Hellie hosted the Emmy Award-winning Redskins Showtime, and the Redskins Coaches Show. Hellie also hosted Sports Final on Sunday nights and the Daily Connection.
“We’re thrilled to add Dan’s unique mix of talents to the team at NFL Network,” said NFL Network Executive Producer Eric Weinberger. “Coming from the D.C. market where he covered one of the league’s most storied franchises for a number of years, Dan brings a unique perspective along with his reporting skills and on-camera presence.”
Hellie’s work with WRC-TV also included on-location coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, and events such as the Super Bowl, Final Four, U.S. Open, Stanley Cup and MLB playoffs.
“It’s been an unbelievable ride spending seven years in my hometown covering the teams I grew up rooting for,” Hellie said. “I never thought I was going to leave, but the opportunity to be a part of the NFL Network and be able to cover the NFL on a daily basis was impossible to pass up.”
Prior to joining WRC-TV, Hellie worked at WFTV Channel 9 in Orlando, Fla. where he anchored weekday newscasts, as well as Sports Night on 9 on Sunday nights. Hellie has also served as a guest co-host of the Morning Drive on the Golf Channel. Hellie’s previous broadcasting work also extends to West Palm Beach, Fla., Florence, S.C. and Alexandria, Minn.
Born in the Philippines and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Hellie and his wife have two children.
