LOS ANGELES, July 17, 2013 – Nelson Franklin (“VEEP,” “New Girl”) has joined the cast of the new CBS fall comedy THE MILLERS as a series regular.  He joins Will Arnett, Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale, Emmy Award winner Beau Bridges, JB Smoove and Jayma Mays, who was previously announced.

THE MILLERS is about Nathan Miller (Arnett), a recently divorced local roving news reporter looking forward to living the singles’ life until his parents’ marital problems unexpectedly derail his plans. After Nathan finally breaks the news of his divorce to his parents, Carol (Martindale) and Tom (Bridges), his father is inspired to follow suit and stuns the family when he leaves his wife of 43 years.   Already in shock, Nathan is even more aghast when his meddlesome mom decides to move in with him. Meanwhile, his absent-minded dad imposes upon Nathan’s sister Debbie (Mays), her husband Adam (Franklin) and their daughter Mykayla (Eve Moon). Nathan’s best friend and news cameraman Ray (Smoove) was excited to be Nathan’s wingman in the dating scene, but Carol manages to even cramp his style. Now, as Nathan and his sister settle in with their truly impossible parents, they both wonder just how long the aggravating adjustment period is going to last. Emmy Award winner Greg Garcia (“Raising Hope” and “My Name is Earl”) is the executive producer.

Franklin’s additional television credits include roles in “The Office” and “Traffic Light.”

THE MILLERS will air Thursdays at 8:30 PM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.

    Really happy for Nelson Franklin, though it is starting to feel like the network may be making a lot of changes to this show, adding more characters and that.

    Also, JB Smoove will be BUSY this season with The Millers, Real Husbands of Hollywood & Chicago PD.

  • Rebecca

    I’ll be watching even if he wasn’t in the show. Rooting for Arnett and Smoove. Nelson Franklin was also one of the guys in Traffic Light (or whatever it was called), a show I liked that didn’t last long (I can say that about many shows I enjoyed, sadly).

  • John Doe

    @Rebecca, I remember Traffic Light! Also enjoyed that show too, great little gem that got lost in the January-February low viewership mix (and FOX really didn’t promote it all too much either)

  • Rebecca

    @John Doe
    I thought it was pretty good, too. I don’t know where it would have survived in the lineup or on what other network…too bad it ended too soon.

  • Ravenrei

    There was excellent acting on Traffic Light. I just don’t think it was marketed very well before the premiere. Nelson will be a great addition to this cast. If I check out Super Fun Night, it’ll only be for Liza Lapira.
