WHOSE LINE Gives The CW Best Time Period Numbers in Nearly Five Years

July 17, 2013 (Burbank, CA) – WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? returned to the airwaves big last night, with The CW's best performance in its time period (Tuesday, 8-9 p.m.) in total viewers (2.9 million) since November 2008, and the best adult 18-34 (1.2/4) and adult 18-49 ratings (1.1/4) since February 2011, according to preliminary Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Tuesday, July 16, 2013. It also delivered the network’s best ratings in the time period among men 18-34 (1.2/5) and men 18-49 (1.0/4) since March 2009.

WHOSE LINE was #2 in the 8-9 p.m. hour among adults 18-34, behind only the MLB All-Star Game on Fox.

WHOSE LINE delivered The CW's best series premiere ratings in adults 18-34 since September 2011 and was the network's second most watched series premiere since Sept. 2011, behind only ARROW. It was also The CW’s best unscripted series premiere among adults 18-34 since January 2009, and the network's most watched unscripted series premiere since March 2007.

Didn’t The Vampire Diaries season 1 Premier have better ratings than Arrow Season 1 Premier so Technically The vampire Diaries 1st, Second is Arrow, And third is who line is it anyway.

  • Ultima

The qualifier was since September 2011; The Vampire Diaries premiered in 2009.

  • Dantas

TVD premiered on 2009. They said “since Sept. 2011″

Good for CW but when is the Reality series The Hunt airing? I’m actually interested in this show of Survivor meets Hunger games w/o the body bags.

  • Jason

The Hunt has been re-titled “Capture,” and it premieres on July 31.

CW execs surely need to capitalize on this obvious acceptance of comedy on the network and not only keep this show in permanent production, but also add to the comedy block. This was, btw, an ingenius idea to resurrect such an established and popular series.

  • platypus Perry

@ Brandon in regard to CW premieres it would be TVD, 90210, Arrow and gossip girl all premieres are higher than whose line so it wouldn’t be #3. Not really sure if any other premieres had higher ratings. Didn’t Nikita get 3 Million viwers as well

  • platypus Perry

@ Jason thanks for the 411 regarding the newly titled Capture premiere :)

  • James

The Secret Circle premiered to 3.05M viewers in Sept. 2011.

?I doubt anything “returns big” on the CW.

    Qualifier, shualimifier.

  • Nick

I have to laugh at The CW only ordering 10 episodes. This show has a clear fanbase that would probably watch it if it was aired all year round. The CW could just keep producing episodes and air them wherever they need to, and they would probably get higher ratings than 75% of the regular lineup.

However, this feels like the perfect summer show. If The CW kept this to just summers and holidays, I would be thrilled.

  • SueP

Glad to see it back. Still hilarious.

  • CrimTV

Wtf? This is huge for The CW!

  • rgxx

The wall scene or whatever it was – WAS HILARIOUS! I’m hooked!

  • NetWolf

I heard they produced 12 episodes, not 10….

  • Justin

I wonder if this will convince the CW to look into Half Hour Sitcoms. Well I can hope.

  • Jared

Maybe now The CW will FINALLY start putting some comedies into development. Obviously there viewers are open to them. Its really what the networks been missing for years.

  • cc

2nd only to the All Star game? That is huge. Yet only 10-12 episodes? SMDH. Maybe someone at the network will get a clue and realize what the view looks like outta the basement and keep the momentum going? I won’t hold my breath.

  • david

Great for the CW. They have a hit with this show back. I am thinking they will order more episode sometime soon. Pedowitz has been wanting the CW to get back into commedy for a year now. This is a great first step towards that.

  • Sparky

Why waste it on summer and not bring it back for the fall? Cheap, people will tune in cos they were fans before and good word of mouth will help it garner more ratings….. Not too often that the CW has a hit on their lineup!
