The Talk Ladies

via press release:

CBS's THE TALK averaged 2.54 million viewers, the second-largest weekly audience in the daily talk show's three-year history, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending July 12.

THE TALK averaged a 1.1/06 in women 25-54 and 0.7/04 in women 18-49.  Compared to the same week last year, THE TALK was up +22% in women 25-54, +17% in women 18-49 and +23% in viewers.

Congrats to the show. Been a really good year for them.

    Propaganda versus reality:

    0.7 in women 18-49 rating !!

GH had a 0.8 in women 18-49 rating even last week (with considerably better numbers in previous weeks and a season AVERAGE of 1.2 !!) , which according to some anti-soaps lobbyists on this board was the worst thing that could ever happen and makes GH due for cancellation (“next step”).

The 0.7 in women 18-49 rating of “The Talk” is also much worse than what ATWT delivered AS AN AVERAGE in the same time slot even in its weakest (last) season when everybody already knew that the show had been cancelled.

And 2.5 million being the “second largest audience” in 3 years!!

That’s ridiculous and a shame for a network like CBS.

The second largest audience of ATWT in (its last) 3 years in the same time slot was well above 3.5 million viewers and around 1.5 in women 18-49!!

But the “we throw the cheapest possible programs at the viewers” anti-soaps lobby even spins these terrible ratings into a “success”.

I could not agree with your assessments more! My favorite soap of all time ATWT was canceled in favor of the pathetic “The Talk”. That Julie Chen has to be the most ridiculous person on TV and then I have to see her on “Big Brother”. I mute her when she she speaks on camera. I think “Big Brother” ought to bring in a past participant to host the show. Julie Chen looks tired on that show. I hope Prospect Park decides to bring back ATWT. They have done wonders with OLTL and AMC already. Compelling stories are currently the norm on both soaps along with Days.

@Angela I Agree 100%! I didnt watch ATWT when it was on air..but i go back and look at youtube videos and i LOVE The show! GH is My Favorite! Its SO GOOD, The Talk cant even compare to GH! Oh, Angela & Dave. Maura West, who played Carly on ATWT & who is one of my favorites of all time, is now on GH! So make sure you tune in! She is killing this newly created role as Ava Jerome. :)

I heard on another board that Jill Farren Phelps was let go as Executive Producer of Y & R due to intervention of Julie Chen who is concerned about her line up lead in. Anyone know anything about that?

Thanks Sean for the update on Maura West on GH. I have a personal policy of not watching ABC Daytime anyone after they cancelled OLTL and AMC. I did see Maura West once for a moment on GH. Y&R had no clue how to use a Daytime Emmy Award winning actor successfully in Maura West. It also happened with Jennifer Landon who was great on ATWT and was recognized for her talent as well. Hopefully, GH is a lot smarter and will take full advantage of all Carly’s (aka Maura West’s) exceptional talents. Maura was amazing as Carly on ATWT. I miss her and ATWT tremendously. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Julie Chen had something to do with Jill Farren Phelps’s demise on Y&R if its true. After all, her husband heads CBS, which may give her a lot of power behind the scenes.
