I am sure there are some good performances, the acting is not what I have an issue with.

The writing and the show becoming the Franco hour is my reasons for not enjoying it.

Then the show throws little things like an appearance by Denise Alexander. Or they give a story of Laura chasing after Luke yet these writers will keep her with Scott Baldwin. Or they have Lucy Coe starting up some new company yet you don’t see her for weeks after it.

  • Nick

I agree completely. That’s exactly my point, but unfortunately to some people here apparently the truth hurts. It’s so laughable how the GH sycophants like Sean come out of the woodwork with any tiny increase and scream that GH is “ON FIRE!” (doing their best Marv Albert impersonation), trying to force their opinion on others. And then on weeks when it’s inevitably back down, there’s nothing from the same people. Yes, you can express that you like the show and that you’re glad that it’s up for now. I have no problem with that (even though the show has turned me off as of now), but please let’s not go overboard. The ratings are still not all THAT great.

To use another sports analogy, to me this is akin to a player on a football team scoring a garbage time touchdown and doing an end zone showboat dance celebration in a game that his team is being blown out in, or players over-celebrating a walk-off hit to win a baseball game when their team is having a bad season.

  • Joe S

@Nick where did Sean ever say that he wanted anyone to change his opinion. Not once in any of his posts did he say that.

You are just as much as a psychopath as he is for attacking someone because they chose to post positive about a show you don’t like.

No one told you including Sean not to post negative why do you attack them for being positive?

I wish the site owners would stop in and put a stop to all these attacks on here. I like posters like Mike, JayTN, and Chrisann they discuss the ratings and the shows with facts and don’t attack someone unless its to defent themselves after being attacked. It is too bad some people ruin it for others.

  • Mike

Just to be clear you cannot crush a show unless the show is your competition…airs at the same time as you do.

GH and The View are not even in competition with one another as far as time slot.

Using the logic of the poster above GMA is crushing GH right now, but it is not. They air on totally different times and have no bearing on the other as far as crushing them.

Right now The View is being crushed by The Price is Right and whatever else airs opposite it.

The only impact that either show has on the other is that the network will usually cancel what they deem the weakest link in their lineup. But ratings are not the only thing they consider. They consider cost in this day and time.

CBS has the best lineup right now. All of it’s shows are doing well. The Talk is getting its biggest ratings ever. Let’s Make A Deal has been hitting over 3 million viewers on some days according to one of the latest press releases. The 2nd half hour even averaged over 3 million viewers for one week recently.

  • Mike

I’m just still stunned by yesterday’s news that Kay Alden was fired from B&B.

Her as co-head writer there really helped Brad Bell and she has written some wonderful stuff. Ratings have been going up since 2011. She went fi-core for the show during the strike.

And because it is B&B there has hardly even been any press coverage of it at all.

I know that cast changes haven’t made much difference with the ratings but I fear that her departure will. Brad Bell’s best times as writer at the show is with a good co-head writer or when his Dad was alive and helped out.

If it was for budget reasons as reported, I don’t see them hiring anyone to guide Brad Bell.

  • Nick

    @Joe S

Just to point out, the word I used in my post above was NOT “psychopath”, LOL. That’s hilarious.

The word was “SYCOPHANT”, which means a self-seeking flatterer or a person/fan who gushingly sucks up to something or someone.

  • Greg

Its been hard for me to get back into watching GH and DOOL here lately. Mainly because of work. But I read previews and nothing gets me excited to want to watch. I know that when I occasionally watch it IS GOOD…because the actors are THAT GOOD in their storylines. Its usually always good to watch but my interest has been waning a bit…..maybe, too, because I’m finding myself watching AMC and OLTL on hulu and those 2 shows are very very very good. But I still believe in GH and DOOL and will continue to watch when I am able to. Just wishing storylines would pick up and get more interesting.

  • Sophie

I also think GH is on fire right now. I’ve thought the last couple weeks the ratings were down and couldn’t understand why. The vets are back on. And the 3 OLTL characters are sinking into there roles well. It takes a while. Love Maxie’s storyline. I’m loving the whole show. I give GH an A!!!! GO GH!!!!

It’s good to see GH back on track after a couple of low weeks. The show itself has been entertaining and funny but the problem is the ridiculous Franco storyline everything else is on point. The Britt storyline is the best on the show but its not really showcased everyday like Franco’s is.

DAYS should be able to go back up in the next few weeks as its been super good this week and the JJ stuff has been real refreshing as DAYS hasn’t had a teen bad boy in a long time.

Y&R has been on point as well and I see them going up even further next week with Phyllis’ incident and the climax of Lauren and Carmine.

B&B for whatever reason has some off the wall writing but the show is really consistent and since 2011 has had some tremendous growth as you see 500,000+ viewers year-to-year in the ratings. This week didn’t have Steffy either and the ratings still went up good sign for them as the signings of Darin Brooks and Rena Sofer were really good for them.

  • Chris

If GH is “on fire” right now and the writing material from Craplivati is deserving of an A, then the future of daytime soap opera quality is in serious trouble. He could not write anything original if his life depended on it. And to have the gall to block anyone on Twitter who criticizes his work or the direction of the show (god forbid) is shameful. If Ron cannot tolerate criticism, then he should go find another line of work. What an egomaniac.

  • PatF

Would be fantastic to get Kay A back to YR.

Josh needs help with deeper and edgier writing.

With Kay’s 30+ years knowledge of the show, it’s a no brainer.

BUT I’m sure it won’t happen.

  • Bex

@Joe, as you say they have a right to post their support for a show, as I have a right to post my dislike for a show. But what part of my comment is an attack?

MY point is that people only show up to brag when their show is up by a small margin, yet we haven’t seen them for the past few weeks when GH was in it’s normal bottom position.

Why not support your show when it’s up AND when it’s down? Don’t come here shouting about how wonderful your show has been this week because the ratings are up, while it’s been in the tank for the past month.

It’s a little hard to believe that a show can only be on fire when the ratings inch up…slightly.

  • Marissa

I’m happy to see GH rise a bit, but I’m not loving the Franco crap.
I’m fairly pleased with all else in Port Charles, though.

  • brownman

Well, I’m enjoying GH on some levels. I love the audition of Maura West and am excited about the DeVry guy coming. Appreciate the return of the characters, Laura, Scotty and Lucy as well as new characters Sabrina and Felix.

I must join in with offers and give my thumbs down to the Franco storyline (not well thought out), nor is the Kiki/Michael thing (the whole incest or thought of, part is yuck). Additionally, the creativity originally bought by the new group has warn off. They must be really intentional about the storylines.

Here’s to a renewed GH! Let’s hope it keeps going up in quality and ratings.

  • Bex

@ Nick, as a basketball fan I find the comparison to Marv Albert quite hilarious.

GH has been free-falling since the 50th, and none of it’s fans have an answer for it. You can predict exactly when the same few cheerleaders are going to show up. They need an opposite saying for ‘on fire’, one they can use when GH returns to the spot it’s been keeping warm for months.

  • Joe S

Wow since people brought up that talk shows are so down just saw this over on another site

The Talk recorded its largest weekly audience ever (week of July 15-19, 2013) as the program averaged 2.62 million viewers.

The talk show was up 3% in total viewers compared to the previous week (2.62 million vs 2.54 million). In the key sales demos, “The Talk” averaged a 1.1/7 in Women 25-54, 0.7/4 in Women 18-49 and 0.4/3 in Women 18-34, all ties with ABC’s “The View.”

  • Sophie

I haven’t been on here when GH was down, becuz I just got back from a 4 week vacation. I had 25 shows to watch and I loved them! I think the writing on GH has been good. The show has gotten better than a month ago. They are using there vets more. Laura, Scotty, Monica, Luke, Anna, Heather. That’s why I love GH so much, cuz they use there vets. Days uses there favorites, like Sami and I don’t care for her at all. I don’t like the way NBC treats there vets, like Drake, Peter R, Jack, or Carrie. Leaves a soue taste in my mouth… GO GH!!!!! I love the new writer at Days. I like MarDar from Days. They have won Emmys for Days. They should get them back!

  • Sophie

I meant I love the new writers on GH!!!

  • Carrie

Ok I love gh but the Franco storyline is stupid everything else is good please stop this story line and bring back Steve if you want Jason back by the way please bring back Jason in will still keep watching

  • Joe S

@Carrie Steve Burton chose to leave GH when his contract was up. He is now under contract to Y&R so you won’t be seeing him return at least in the foreseeable future. I am not sure how long his contract with CBS is for.
