Update: Here is Starz press release about the renewal.

AMC has ordered two new dramas Halt & Catch Fire and Turn.

Black Sails, a priate drama which will premiere on Starz in January 2014, has already been renewed for a second season. The network's president Chris Albrecht announced the renewal at today's Starz TCA Panel, saying that the very early renewal was based in part on a positive response to the show at San Diego Comic-Con, where the network's promotional efforts included a full size pirate ship sailing through the water next to the convention center.

Looking forward to this! Although early renewals can be hit or miss – to me I am more likely to check out a show that I know won’t be around for 6 episodes, get invested in it, and then have it get cancelled. This way at least if first season ratings aren’t good, at least Starz has a head start in a proper ending for the story in season two.

The Comics Con is puke. as seen by this puke show.

Another desperate Starz move to try to replace Spartacus. They already screwed things up with the early renewal of crappy ratings Da Vinci’s Demons.
