DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS RECORDS DELIVERY, SHARE GAINS
ACROSS U.S. PORTFOLIO IN JULY

--Animal Planet Logs Most Watched Month Ever --
(Silver Spring, Md.) –Discovery Communications posted delivery gains and records across its U.S. network portfolio in July. The company’s 10-network U.S. portfolio grew +10% in Prime P25-54 delivery vs. July 2012. The increase reflected notable gains for Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Destination America, Velocity, Military Channel and OWN. The company’s U.S. portfolio share of ad-supported cable now stands at 10.7 %.
Discovery Channel’s premieres of new series Naked & Afraid and returning series Fast N’ Loud and Deadliest Catch were #1 on their respective nights among P25-54 for the month and also were three of the top five cable series among M25-54 in July.  The network was #4 in cable for M25-54/M18-49 Prime delivery and ranked in the top 10 networks for P25-54, P18-49 and M18-34 in July 2013.

Led by signature series and specials including Sister Wives, Breaking Amish: LA, Breaking Amish: Brave New World: The Shunning Truth, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and Randy to the Rescue, TLC posted double-digit gains in Prime vs. July 2012 among W25-54/18-49/18-34. On Friday nights in July, TLC was the #2 ad-supported cable network in delivery among W25-54/18-49/18-34 and placed in the top 10 ad-supported cable networks in delivery among HH, P25-54/18-49/18-34.

Animal Planet scored its most-watched month in history in both Prime and Total Day among P2+ viewers and HH, thanks to returning hit series Gator Boys and new hit series Treehouse Masters.  Animal Planet ranked #16 among all ad-supported cable networks in July based on M25-54 delivery, marking the seventh straight month as a top 20 network.

With hit returning series Overhaulin’ and new series Fantomworks, July 2013 marks Velocity’s 15th straight month of year-over-year double digit growth in Prime for P25-54/18-49 delivery, as well as 22 straight months of year-over-year delivery growth for P2+ and M18+.

ID saw its best July ever in Prime in delivery among HH, W25-54/18-49 and P2+.  July marked Destination America’s best month ever with the debut of Mountain Monsters, the network’s highest rated original series ever, and the return of BBQ Pitmasters in Prime with  +29% P2+, +27% HH, +17% P25-54 and in Total Day delivery +25% P2+, +27% HH and +18% P25-54 .

Science Channel logged its 20th consecutive month of P2+ delivery growth year-over-year in Prime and its 23rd consecutive month of P2+ delivery gains in Total Day.  Military Channel grew +20% in HH, +23% in P2+ and +11% in M25-54 delivery in Total Day.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network scored ratings highs in Primetime on Saturday and Sunday nights in July with the return of popular original series Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s and Oprah: Where Are They Now? delivering the highest rated episodes in series history.  For nine consecutive weeks, OWN has ranked in the top three cable networks for African-American W25-54.

The Hub Network continues its growth story as July marked 19 consecutive months of growth among key demos with Kids 6-11, W18-49, P2+ and HH. For the thirteenth consecutive month, the Hub Network was the most co-viewed children’s network in co-view share among Kids 2-11 watching with Adults 18-49.
