Keith Urban, a four-time Grammy Award winner who has sold more than 15 million albums, will return to AMERICAN IDOL XIII as a judge.

IDOL hopefuls will meet Emmy Award-nominated host Ryan Seacrest and the judges, including Urban, when the auditions travel to Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Detroit, Omaha, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. AMERICAN IDOL XIII debuts in January 2014 on FOX.

Additional judges to be announced.

About Keith Urban:
2013 is poised to be another spectacular year for Keith Urban, who has already celebrated the success of a sold-out Australian Arena tour and received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for his song “For You,” his initial foray writing specifically for a motion picture. A performance with the Rolling Stones and at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Concert, combined with Urban’s fourth annual All 4 The Hall Benefit Concert performing alongside Rebels and Renegades’ Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Kris Kristofferson, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw and Eric Church, amongst others, has further solidified the respect that Urban has received as a musician and player.

In the spring, Urban released his first single in nearly two years, “Little Bit of Everything,” and wrapped Season 12 of FOX’s AMERICAN IDOL, on which he serves as a judge.

In July, he launched the first outdoor summer tour of his career, Light The Fuse Tour 2013, with Little Big Town and special guest Dustin Lynch. The tour will move into arenas in October and will continue through December. Urban’s eighth studio album, “FUSE,” will be released on September 10.

In 2001, the Country Music Association honored Urban with its Horizon Award, designating him a talented artist with a bright future. He is the first Horizon Award winner in history to go on to win the CMA’s Male Vocalist of the Year, a title he’s captured three times, and the coveted Entertainer of the Year. More than 15 million albums later, Keith is a four-time Grammy Award winner who has also won a People’s Choice Award and American Music Award. He’s won five Academy of Country Music Awards, had 14 No. 1’s, including 28 Top 5 hits, and has had five consecutive platinum or multi-platinum albums. In 2012, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Urban’s reputation as a songwriter, musician, vocalist and virtuoso guitarist is no more evident than when he is onstage. His electrifying concerts have played to sold-out venues from Australia to Germany, England to Canada and the United States. In fact, 2009’s Escape Together World Tour, as well as 2007’s Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy World Tour, were both one of the top-grossing tours for their respective years.

    Noooooo god damn

  • Steven

I’m glad Keith Urban is returning as a judge, he’s a decent judge.

I think that “American Idol” sees Keith Urban as their Blake Shelton (from “The Voice”).

  • Colin

    Fantastic! Best judge!

  • msupdate

Very good news. He was one of the best judges ever on the show. He knew what he was saying, could find the words to say it and didn’t repeat pretty much the same lines over and over (opposite to the three traits of the three other judges last season) AND he was funny while doing it.

  • JulieDawn

Pleased about this – he’s the only one from last year I did hope would return.

  • Phil

Good. He’s a genuine judge. I wonder who the other 2 (or 3) judges will be for the next season.

  • noob

Isn’t Jennifer Hudson a judge too?

  • Anna Bones Clarkwood

You summed up my thoughts very well. I agree.
Also, Keith seems like he was able to make the 2 Ego’s on s12, more willing to “get along” & thus, I feel like he would be able to be a good fit for any panel, esp one with less Ego, as then the “chemistry” on the panel would be a highlight.

Hudson’s contract wasn’t finalized & the idea of an Alumni Panel was from the old bosses. We might get 1 Alumni & it could very well be her, possibly Adam Lambert instead, or someone else, not Kelly or Carrie, or no Alumni at all, but she hasn’t been signed yet.

They are def working with Jennifer Lopez. The thoughts are the bosses like her but not for the salary she wants. So, unless Lopez gives in to a smaller salary, she’s out.

Will-I-Am is the 2nd male, they are thinking a panel of 2 males, 1 female, that has the most credible rumors, at the moment.

I really like the idea of an Alumni, but 1 is enough. Hudson or Lambert would be fine choices.

I don’t want Lopez & esp with her salary which I want given to the contestants, in some form or another.

    I really don’t want Will-I-Am.
    Steve Carell as Michael Scott:

Yes to Urban, ICK NO to Lopez. Jennifer Hudson would be good, Lambert, Aiken, some others.

  • Flame

He seems to have been the one that kept this sinking ship afloat at least a little from what I’ve heard. It will still go down further.

  • Kaylie

I would love to see Keith, Adam Lambert & a down to earth female artist. Im unsure of who. I still don’t know why Jimmy Iovine hasn’t become a judge yet.

  • Networkman

Keeping Keith Urban is fine choice because he appeals to the country music fans. Jennifer Lopez definately appeals to the latin fan base. And bringing someone like Will.I.Am can grab the younger audience who is into pop.

  • JLover

Please producers, no to Will.I.Am, have you guys seen him on the Voice UK? He’s such a bore and can’t put a complete sentence together! He’s a great mentor though. Keith Urban and J.Lo are really great judges because they are very likeable, entertaining and can provide constructive criticism. The final judge should be Harry Connick Jr. or Adam Lambert! That would be one of the best judges’ panel.
