DAYS has been great these past 3 months.

The most exciting stuff on any soap in my opinion comes from the JJ scenes on that show. It’s been a while since DAYS had a teen scene surrounded around a bad boy and its been well done so far no doubt about it.

Since the key demo for talk, food and news shows is supposedly the 25-54 I would love to see what the soaps do in that demo too but we never see those even though they are counted for soaps now. Sometimes in press releases now it will tell what the soaps get in that demo, but SON never reports it.

My guess is that SON gets the 25-54 but doesn’t release as they did respond to questions about the male viewers and said they still get it but do not report it either. I wish the site owner would change his mind about that but he has not given in to requests to see those.

It is strange how different mediums have a different key demo.

Soaps is supposed to be the 18-45 female viewer as the desired demo (even though in my opinion that is very out of date).

Primetime is supposed to be 18-45 male and female viewer.

News, food, and talk shows the key demo is said to be the 25-54 as the desired set of viewers targeted by advertisers.

Just to clarify that is not saying that all the other viewers are not important to them — it is just that the advertisers are willing to pay top dollar to advertise on shows if their rating in that key demo is higher. And that means a better budget for the show.

So many people hear that advertisers prefer or seek a certain demo and think they are important. It is not that. It is just they are willing to pay more to advertise on that show.

Wow just saw a post at SON that someone said OWN had cut out the Friday marathon of both AMC and OLTL too. They only air from Monday to Thursday. The guy had set his DVR to tape the Friday marathon as he had missed all week. But it is no longer on.

OWN evidently was not happy with the performance.

I wonder what this will do with them picking them up after the ten weeks or any other TV deal that Prospect Park seeks out.

  • Helen

    Y & R is on fire!!!

  • Bex

No need for board drama, however you jumped right in on a issue that has since died? FYI Sean was never called a troll for supporting GH. Also who are these posters that are attacking people for their opinions? Apart from the Sean argument the discussions have been civil for the past few weeks.

  • Bex

@Helen Something I can finally agree on! I thought Y&R did a great job with MS exit, the twist to the paternity storyline was a pleasant surprise, but I’m really hoping they continue with the momentum with Avery vowing to find out what happened to Phyllis. Can’t wait for things to unravel for Sharon.

The other storylines seem to be moving along. I was actually interested in the blogger storyline for the first time yesterday, only wish that Micheal had killed Carmine, really not looking forward to round two of that mess.

  • Marissa

Helen – please quit trolling with your “Y&R is on fire” comments….

    ;)

  • PatF

Everyone says their show is “on fire”.

    I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read…

GH is on fire! Days has been on fire!

  • Bex

The difference with Helen’s on fire comment is that it was stated ahead of the ratings being release, not after. Helen might have been teasing, but there is truth to it. A big departure such as Michelle Stafford is going to get attention, whether you want to believe that or not. I personally loved seeing a fiery Daniel return, and the mention of Katherine last week. The next major story will be Katherine’s on screen death, and I hope JPF does her justice.

With the site you are referring to they use to post the ratings on Thursday every week…it was like clock work. But now you just never know when you will get them or what you will get.

  • JayTN

PatF…I agree about the term “on fire”. It has become so overused that I just roll my eyes everytime I see it or hear it. It’s kind of like the term “hater”, which now is applied to anyone that someone doesn’t agree with or just doesn’t like.

Just outside of the soaps, it seems like a battle could be brewing between “The Talk” and “The View”, especially with the impending cast turn-over at “The View”. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is gone and now Joy Behar is gone as well, with Barbara Walters set to exit next year. There are no cast changes expected over at “The Talk”, although I wish they would get rid of big-mouth Sharon Osbourne (she has missed more than 10 weeks of episodes this season anyway, more than all the other co-hosts combined).

  • Joe S

@Mike hopefully we will see the ratings today. I didn’t realize they werent posted every week at the same time.

In regards to words that are becoming overused, already get quite tired of the word Troll. That seems to be applied to anyone who posts something that is not of the popular opinion here.

@JayTN I think The View is hurting with all the loses of hosts. I think that will hurt The View in ratings unless they can get someone big to come on as one of the hosts.

The Talk seems to be doing really well over the summer. Will they keep that going in the fall?

  • Olivia

As we can see from GH ratings, there is a significant loss in viewers this year compared to last. So GH is NOT on top! Crappy story lines drove me away from a show I’ve watched since I was a kid.

  • Joe S

    @Olivia
That is incorrect. GH in these ratings is up
In total viewers up 107,000 from last year and in 18-49 up 62,000 from last year
I have not liked the Franco story and can see why the numbers have not been great but they are still doing above last years numbers.

The interesting thing will be come Sept and late fall when last year they had increases to see if they still go up at that point.

I have heard that the Franco stuff has calmed down a bit but still too much for my tastes still.

I also hear the Jerome family return and Maura West(who has been fantastic in the few scenes I have seen her in) has got a lot of interest.

Friday also featured the return of Sean Donnelly despite denials and reports that the actor would not be returning.

So there does seem to be added interest plus with Mac and Felicia’s wedding may very well see more increases but we shall see.

  • Bex

I love how certain people claim to be above board drama, yet can’t help themselves. Maybe you should report yourself to the site moderators? TROLL was used last week in reference to an actual troll, now it’s overused to disregard unpopular opinions? I’m leaning towards liar in this case, rather than just a simple fabricator. It’s sad when you have to lie to try to support you argument.

Unlike ‘hater’, and ‘on fire’ both which have made their appearance quite rampant on the board for months. If only people researched their crap like how they attempt to do with the numbers.

  • Mike

I don’t know if they will post the ratings today or not. The person who posts them over there hasn’t even responded with why the ratings are late this week.

Used to that site was so dependable. The ratings were posted every Thursday and the it got to be Friday. Now you just never know when they will show up.

They are really a good site and break some great news. But then it just seems like they get bored or something and you don’t get anything out of them.

  • PatF

They are very inconsistent with their postings for sure!

  • Joe S

    @Mike,
That site also seems to have started to report on regular tv news in addition to soaps despite the name of the site.

They haven’t had an update on the site page itself though in almost a weeks o i wonder if something is going on. I guess we will have to wait and see

  • Mike

They’ve been doing the off and on prime time news stuff for years. I think in an effort to try to draw other people to their site.

The site owners and moderators really should be thankful for the posters that they have there. If it wasn’t for them bringing stuff from other sites most times it wouldn’t have anything to offer. Because they just don’t bring much to the table for long periods of time. And it is sad because they use to have a great reputation for keeping folks up to date.

And I just hate so many of the sites like Daytime Confidential because they are so biased. And I will not pay to view Nelson Branco’s stuff because he is biased too. We Love Soaps is the least bias but I hate the blog style of the way they report. It is so hard to comment and stuff there.

  • JayTN

I used to be a weekly visitor to Soap Opera Network, but I haven’t been there in years. I quit visiting around the time that Fish and Kyle were dropped from OLTL…that wasn’t the reason, though. The reason was because there was a bunch of drama queen posters. I remember that one of them was really upbeat about the future of soaps (and this was before the cancellation of AMC and OLTL by ABC), but after a few down weeks seemed to throw in the towel and almost all of their posts turned negative and depressing.

I remember one time that the moderator who would post the ratings seemed to revel in the fact that he had something (i.e. ratings) that people wanted, but was going to make the website visitors wait until after he or she finished a hamburger. Really, I’m not making this stuff up! That was kind of the beginning of the end for me with SON, as the moderator almost acted like a cat playing with a mouse by saying “I’ve got the ratings, but I think I’ll wait until I’m good and ready to post them.” Not a very good way to run a site, in my opinion.
