    Jay,

I remember those posts as well and thought the same thing.

I’m used to drama queen posters. So don’t pay much attention to them. My biggest frustration with their message board and the reason I never joined there is that they seem to be bipolar with things. There are posters who are constantly rude to others and they stay for years and years. And other posters who do similar stuff get banned quickly. Its as if they play favorites there.

  • Jeff

Soapoperanetwork is a very inconsistent site. Can’t believe ratings haven’t been posted yet. At least Daytime confidential has fresh things to offer. I check it out daily. There are days where SON posts 15 things, then nothing for a week. Very odd. Hope we get the ratings at some point, and Mike or JayTN do you know why SON seems to have the lock on getting the ratings? Why can’t another site get them and post them. I have also never understood that.

  • Mike

    Jeff,

Any site can get them if they pay for them from Nielsen. Unless that site has some insider or something that gets the numbers for them.

I remember seeing Nielsen’s prices for the releases several years ago posted on some site and they were not cheap. The more demos you ask for the higher the cost. It was in the high thousands of dollars and they required a year contract.

Right now either SON is the only site willing to pay the price or the only site with an insider.

By insider I mean just someone has access to them — not with Nielsen but with some show or network that happens to be a client and gets the numbers released to them.

“Right now either SON is the only site willing to pay the price or the only site with an insider.”

Nobody that runs an editorial website pays Nielsen for ratings. Nobody. Way too expensive.

Any ratings you see online got there second, or third, or fourth hand ultimately beginning with an organization that did pay, almost always a television network.

Thanks, Bill! It’s always nice to have some idea of how things work, rather than just a bunch of speculation.

Perhaps now people will stop trashing SON, considering they are the only outlet posting the ratings at the moment. Maybe they had trouble obtaining the ratings for this week.

I’m sure those hungry for numbers can find something else to occupy their time until SON is back in business.

  • JayTN

I don’t know if the “trashing SON” comment is directed at me or not, as I don’t believe I have “trashed” the site. If it is directed at me, I stand by my comments, which were just an editorial opinion on the content of some of their forum comments and the attitude of the site’s moderator.

As I prefaced my earlier comments, I do not visit SON on a regular basis (I don’t even average one visit per month), and last I checked, that is a freedom that we still have. We don’t have to visit websites we don’t like or enjoy, just like we don’t have to watch TV shows that we don’t like or don’t have to read books that we don’t like.

As to how SON is able to get the soap ratings, I believe that the moderator (at least while I was a semi-regular visitor to the site) would often talk about getting them from a third party source. The delay is likely due to this source (i.e. he or she is on vacation, sick, etc).

Ultimately, I don’t really care one way or the other if the soap ratings are posted or not. If they are, fine. If they aren’t, fine. It’s not like I’m waiting with bated breath on them, or wearing a groove in my floor pacing in anticipation. The earth hasn’t spun off its axis due to the delay, nor do I expect it to.

  • Mike

Thanks Bill. I knew by the prices that I saw that it was very expensive. I couldn’t see how any site could afford them.

As to SON it is not bashing when you talk about their reputation. They have built their reputation of late and not just with ratings but with everything they do.

And it is not something that I have not written to the site administrator.

  • Jeff

thanks for all the info everyone.

I think “Sean” is RC!!! makes sense, and would definitely not put it past RC to do that! I detest the man! Hes a damn drama queen and he brings that to the screen! That is why GH is so horrible right now. I don’t care how many vets you bring back, you have to have a writer that can write a story for them, and IMO, the man doesn’t get it. Its not the 80′s, or 90′s anymore.. These people have aged and life went on without them in Port Charles and I that is not considered the story is lacking.. That of course is my opinion. Sabrina and Patrick are so miss-matched, Sials, or I should say Michael Easton, (again, my opinion) is the worse actor, he has no depth, range.. and brings down Sam.. I have waited so long for Sam’s dad story and he’s right in the middle.. if he weren’t in the middle, that would be a great story. Sam and “Derek” have really great chemistry and then they have to insert Silas.. ugh.. But, hey people keep telling me I don’t have to watch, and guess what, I haven’t, not like I use to. And that is a damn shame…. I for one would love to see Guza come back, that man knows how to write a damn good story and knows how to build a character, and friendships, relationships.. Yeah, he got Mob crazy, but all those stories involved just about everyone on canvas…. And contrary to what people think, he did not kill all the Q’s, that was coming from higher up….

  • jonboyelk

@Corky Interesting idea re RC. As for Guza, didn’t GH nearly tank during his tenure? I haven’t watched an episode in the past week and a half (away on vacation) and I’m not missing it. Much as I’d like to continue supporting the show there is really little of interest to me anymore and I might just keep away from it even after I return home. Now if you were to tell me Kiki, Silas and Franco have morphed back into Starr, McBain and Todd I might reconsider.
