Nashville Resident Takes Home Grand Prize of $1 Million as She Defeats Five Others

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Aug. 8, 2013 — Katie Ohh has been named the champion for the inaugural season of NBC’s singing-competition series “The Winner Is,” taking home a grand prize of $1 million.

Ohh defeated five other acts — all of whom had advanced to the season’s final episode — in head-to-head competition that was voted on by a panel of 101 music experts. Ohh resisted the temptation to accept cash offers in her climb to the top and, instead, gambled on the strength of her talent and won.

Ohh was born and raised in Powhatan Point, Ohio, and currently resides in Nashville. She fell in love with music after a performance at a Christmas show when she was 12 years old and credits her mother with harvesting her singing voice. After graduating college and nursing school, Ohh felt like she had abandoned her passion for singing, so she began writing music after her shifts in the intensive care unit. As much as she loves being a nurse, Ohh would love if her appearance on “The Winner Is” can begin a music career.

“The Winner Is” is hosted by Nick Lachey and produced by Talpa Media USA, Inc. and Universal Television. The series was created by John de Mol, who executive produces along with Craig Plestis and Stijn Bakkers.

Champion? Don’t they mean winner? After, the name of the show is THE WINNER IS.

  • Oliver

    “First” seems optimistic.

  • xwiseguyx

I’m very confused. They cancelled the show and just told us who won? (Or was this broadcast on some cable channel?)

  • Igwell

There was only 7 episodes. I wouldn’t be surprised if NBC renewed it for spackle.

  • Survivor Fan

There were only 7 episodes to begin with, and the finale aired last night.

Lol, even crappy shows like this are not immune to Boring White Country Singer syndrome.

  • NJ Viewer

Who are those so-called “expert judges”?
I thought the other teacher should’ve won

  • Willie Anderson Jr

Chandes Bibans was a much better singer then Katie Ohh The audience and judge misjudge her. She has and amazing voice like whitney Houston and mandisa which is great talent. So I am asking for someone to reconsider her amazing great talent and to give her a record deal. You don’t find many voices like these great women around anywhere. I was very disappointed about there jugement as I know good voices and music when I hear them. Please don’t let this lady slip by our finger without a record deal.

  • Willie Anderson Jr

I’m sorry I was meaning to spell Sharde Bivans in stead of Chandes Bibans please forgive me.

  • michelle

i thought chandes should have won also. She out sang Katie but it’s, white america, they always choose the country singer!

  • michelle

    I meant Sharde not Chandes.

Nice comment Michelle, way to show your ignorance. I guess white America just must not have tuned in to certain seasons of American Idol when Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino won. They were both excellent singers and the vote was very close, it could have gone either way. Hopefully someone will sign both of them so they can continue on with their careers.
