On August 2nd i felt GH had a strong episode but it turns out it got a 1.8 in households and 2.26 million viewers. The rest of the week was okay. I was really hoping the August 2nd episode was higher especially with the return of Holly at the end but overall an okay week for GH.

  • ShawnfromDayton

I wonder if the TWC blackout of CBS did any damage to y&r and b&b’s ratings?

  • Mike

Congrats to see B&B and Y&R up so much from last year. And glad to see B&B the only soap with a positive — that in total viewers.

As far as the TWC blackout, since it has had very minimal to no effect on prime time I would doubt the drops have much to do with them in daytime too.

  • jupiter3765

unless gh ratings are what they should be gh is never out of the woods

  • Derrick

I have a feeling the blackout is what caused slight rating decrease with CBS!! Ratings still good for both soaps!

  • Bex

Well, with these horrid ratings the delay almost seems quite worth it. B&B have been making major inroads over the past year, can’t take that away from them.

CBS daytime has been doing a fantastic job over the past year, but can’t help but feel changes are coming to Y &R.

LOVING GH!!! SO GOOD! GO GH!

  • moshane58

Hoping every soap would stay steady in ratings.GH is so good now.

  • Joe S

Interesting that B&B and GH are up in the 18-49 from last year. Nice to see all soaps up from last year in total viewers.

Watched GH for the first time in awhile yesterday. Enjoyed the Luke/Holly/Sean stuff, and the scenes with Anna/Duke. I am however so done with the Sabrian/Britt stuff. Although it does look like now Britt’s mother who is the dr that was holding Robin is going to try to kill Anna or something along those lines. Was nice to have an episode with no Franco.

Days seems to continue on a downward trend after having a couple good months. The CBS soaps seem to remain solid still being well up from last year.

I saw a headline where these ratings where posted that it was a bad week for all soaps but when all are up in total viewers and 2 of the 4 are up in 18-49 from last year not sure that is all that bad. Yes down from last week but in the summer ratings seem to go up and down

  • Nick

Scary when someone thinks losing 100,000 viewers is an ok week. Especially when the ratings are so low to begin with.

  • Rob R

The Time Warner blackout of CBS in NY, Los Angeles, Dallas, etc. does not affect this ratings week because the blackout began on the evening of Aug 2.

  • Bex

@Nick What’s scary is some fans still proclaiming that GH is stolid as a rock because their show is up from last season. No show is safe from cancellation and are all at the mercy of the networks. When they can no longer turn a solid profit they will vanish.

People like to chatter up how the ABC daytime exec is a fan of the show. I’m sure her career would come first. How anyone can claim this ‘solid as a rock’ nonsense while both ABC and CBS cancelled popular long running shows, especially when GH was on the chopping blocks not so long ago. We all know had The Revolution pulled a solid audience ABC would have no soap left.

  • Nick

GH is a pathetic snoozefest. As long as Rerun Ron remains in charge and refuses to tolerate any criticism or negative feedback of his second-grade style writing on Twitter, it seems pretty unlikely that the show will ever again have a serious surge above 1.8-1.9′s.

It’s no surprise that Y&R and B&B continue to lead the way by a lot. As far as the TWC/CBS dispute, since it’s had very little effect on CBS’s primetime lineup and their weekend PGA Championship golf coverage was actually up significantly from last year, it’s pretty safe to say that daytime was not impacted much at all either. You have to remember that we’re in August, which is the least watched TV month of the year. And even though several large markets (NYC, Boston, Pittsburgh, LA, etc-I think) have been involved, only a portion of the households in those markets have been affected as TWC isn’t the only cable provider that serves homes in those markets. (Of course, homes cannot switch.)

I’d be very surprised if this dispute isn’t resolved by around Labor Day, with CBS’s NFL and SEC college football slate around the corner, and their new and returning primetime shows getting ready to premiere.

  • Bex

Basically if you aren’t kissing MoRon arse on Twitter you will find yourself quickly blocked.

My mum who’s a long time GH viewer would rush home from work to view GH, she was the type of viewer who would sit through the commercials because she didn’t want to miss anything, she doesn’t do that anymore. GH has become dull, campy and predictable. Between Cartini and their pets, the rewrites, the inflation of newbies, and the recycled OLTL storylines I’m always amazed when people speak of how amazingly wonderful the show is. I’ll never understand how a show that once tackled young teens battling HIV can end up with blood sucking vampires.

  • lampshade

Good to see BB up, as others have pointed out their increase from last year is impressive. This despite loosing Ridge, Stephanie and recently Taylor and Steffy. It is a pleasure to watch. I’ve replaced GH on my DVR with YR and am enjoying watching this regularly.

To be fair on all soaps August is a particularly hard month to gain ratings.

  • Joe S

@Mike I would have to agree the TWC blackouts I don’t think can be used as the excuse since it had little effect in prime time.

The summer numbers are always so unpredicitable with soaps although lately that seems to be the common thing throughout the year.

@Mike do you think the networks look at trends from one year ago, do you think they look at the comparison to that or are they more concerned about the 1 week ago. The reason I wonder is I always see some people say oh look the numbers are down from last week then someone comes back with its up from one year ago. Just wondering what you or others think is more important in the long picture.

I do know season average is important as well.

  • corey allen

one of the miner chracther better get the poison not the vets gh will go up in ratings now that the vets are being used again. love having emma samms back as holly.

  • J

For the season Days looks good. After Gabi’s baby was born the show has slowed down for me.Kristen’s troubles are old news.Casey Moss is good playing JJ so the younger viewers might watch his s/l.Theresa so far has been not very interesting.Nick hasn’t been on that much.Y&R continues to be my favorite soap.JG is going a great job.I haven’t been bored since he took over.
