Why are you bringing SON spam here? Just because someone doesn’t like certain shows it doesn’t necessary mean they are against all soaps, or the genre. Not everyone want to gather and hold hands to celebrate the bad ones stinking up the joint. Clearly you miss ATWT and you’re still bit distrait over the loss, but CBS made a decision to cut it’s losses, and unfortunately I don’t see them reviving those shows no matter how poorly the game or talk shows perform.

And I guess I was right about the changes at Y&R, I wonder if I can be now labeled an insider like HNY, or at the very least a psychic soap God. lol

  • Bex

I don’t even know who you are, all these new names and multiple aliases who can keep up. All I see on SON each week are ‘different’ people carrying on with this anti-soap lobbyist nonsense. Any negativity towards any soap and you’re labeled as such.

And different stokes I guess! I’m not a huge JFP fan, however neither her nor Josh has ruined Y&R for me. What’s to follow no one can be certain, maybe you will be proven right and Jill will alienate the remaining fans.

  • Bex

So you didn’t go from being LukeNoahFan to PHELPS OUT, if you aren’t LukeNoahFan, then there was no need to respond back to my comment regarding SON spam because clearly I hadn’t made any reference to your comments.

I think the story for the soaps right now is their year-to-year increases which shows that the soaps have pretty much recovered from the drops they were receiving for 15 years.

Also another good story is the increases by AMC and OLTL specifically AMC which is slowly finding their audiences on OWN. Definitely would be interested to see if they grow again next week, I think these next couple of weeks might be crucial towards AMC and OLTL staying on OWN past September.

Press release for The Chew by ABC.

Evidently Joy Behar’s last week on The View didn’t do much as no mention of them by ABC either.

Wonder if the increase for The Chew spilled over into GH.

I made an effort to rearrange my schedule to see the start of the death of Kay live today. The show today did not hold my interest at all, even the build up to what Jill realized at the end didn’t have much suspense to it for me.

I love YR but will tell ya she is a snooze fest. I normally put it on when I am trying to fall asleep. BB has been Oooookkk i guess. I am not sure why writers struggle so much to come up with something. Come YR let spice it up and keep it spicy because Niel stalker or what ever, who cares I hope she kills him. Ha BTW GH sucks….

  • Alexandra

@Mike: What on earth are you talking about??

GH certainly doesn’t need any “spill over” ratings-wise from “The Chew”.
The fact that their “5-month high” is a weekly average BELOW 2.5 million total viewers says it all. It’s incredibly ridiculous that some people at ABC continue to try spinning this into a “success”

GH has a season average of 2.2 (total viewers) and 1.2 (women 18-49) – these are numbers that your cheap replacement shows the networks put on after killing our favorite and longest-running soaps can only dream of!!

Even in a “not so good week” GH is getting much superior ratings in the women 18-49 key demographic.

  • Mike

It may be getting higher numbers in the 18-49 demo as you say but you don’t read about The Chew’s budget being cut like you do with GH. Frank V. just told fans at the fan gathering that GH keeps getting more and more cuts.

That’s the problem that folks like you can’t seem to grasp. They are higher but they still aren’t good enough. Even B&B’s numbers still aren’t good enough for CBS and they are usually higher than GH’s in the 18-49.

Ratings are not a popularity contest as you all want to make them out to be. The ratings set how much advertisers are willing to pay to advertise on that show. That is the money that the networks get to produce the show. And that determines the budget for the show.

And even though these numbers are higher than the replacement shows, the replacements shows cost less. So they aren’t getting hit with budget cuts like the soaps are.

And that is why the soaps are just going to continue to be made cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. Eventually unless those 18-49 get even higher than what you want to boast about (in your multiple screen names — no you aren’t fooling anyone) — then eventually the soaps will be down to the bare bones just like Guiding Light was or off the air. Because the only way the networks will keep them around is they be produced on the budget of a show like The Chew.

Because these numbers are not good enough to support even the budgets that the shows have now. Thus that is why as Frank V. says — they keep getting hit with cuts. And it will continue.

  • Mike

Oh and LukeNoah/Alexandra or whatever name you want to call yourself next time you post.

GH does need the upward trend to blend over. Remember they were down the week before these Chew ratings. They need to go up like The Chew did. If they didn’t then guess what The Chew probably beat them in total viewers. No it is not a key demo but it is still higher than what GH got the ratings above.

ABC was evidently proud enough of it to put out a press release. They didn’t do that for either The View or GH. But we won’t know what GH did until SON posts the ratings. But hopefully for GH’s sake they followed The Chew’s trend and went up.

  • Kayla Rae

I couldn’t agree with you more, Nick, that GH is but a whopping bore. DOOL, on the other hand, continues to soar in content and quality! Go DAYS!!!

  • Kayla Rae

I heartily agree with you, Jonboyelk, that Duck Dynasty is a pathetic, miserable show. Ugh!

  • jonboyelk

KaylaRae OMG, you and I actually agreed on something! I knew, despite our occasional differences, there was something I liked about you.

  • Kayla Rae

Yes, the Days episode featuring the ladies’ book club and the pot donuts was hysterical! It reminded me of the Days featuring Caliope Jones and Eugene Bradford and their always laugh-out-loud antics! Keep up the great work, DOOL! Also am enjoying JJ’s dark side!

  • RR

BEX= Bullying Troll and not even good at it

Mike= calling people out on using different aliases is the pot calling the kettle black. What # alias are you on Mike? you’ve been Mike for a bit but we all know this is at least your third incarnation

Kayla Rae= hilariously uncreative. you’ve been ranting about GH being a bore for at least six months. how would you still know? If you are watching it, why? if not, you don’t know and are just a whiny hater.

  • Mike

    jonboy and kayla,

I understand that Duck Dynasty is not for everyone, but what show is. To me as I have always said to the folks who ridicule my soaps or me for watching them. The purpose of a TV show is to entertain and all of us have different likes and dislikes. What entertains one person is not going to entertain the next.

But if you find something that allows you to escape and laugh or cry or whatever you need at that moment then more power to you.

But as I also tell them don’t call my show pathetic or whatever just because it doesn’t appeal to you.

And I don’t do that anymore because I know how much I dislike it when people call my soaps trash or whatever.

We all know what entertains us and what doesn’t. Even for soap viewers alone it is different. Some prefer the slower pace of Y&R. Some enjoy the slight campiness/drama mix that is B&B. Some hate the new Days while some love it. Many want the old Days while others don’t. Even with GH some long for the mob days while some absolutely love the campiness that the show is now. Some love Franco and some don’t.

For some it is comedy. For some it is drama. For some it is a reality show.

For every lover of any show you will find an equal number of those that don’t like it.

  • Chrisann D

Bex, I hope all is well. If you need to talk let me know. Wishing you well.

  • PatF

Josh was not the issue at YR, it’s PHELPS…who needs to go.

She has no interest in the history of the show, and I suspect because Josh didn’t want to make SB even more of a focal point on the show, he was let go or quit.

  • Bex

Sorry Chrisann, but that post wasn’t made by me. It’s sad when people have to pretend to be others, and worse joke about the seriousness of mental illness. Instead of coming at me straight on, they choose to hide with impersonations.

  • Bex

How could I possibly bully anyone? If people choose to get offended due to my comments regarding a fictional soap then that’s their problem, not mine. You know people are truly getting desperate when they start creating a bunch of fake names. Why not post under your true monikers to lay your insults?

  • Mike

Phelps was brought in to make the show cheaper. I doubt she is going anywhere, but I just have a feeling that more vets may go if they push the cheaper part more.
