I’m glad to see GH doing better. They’ve had the Vets back on alot. I’m loving it!I did watch Days, and loved the donut story. That was very funny! Juli, Kayla, and Adrianne!Kayla ate the whole jar of peanut butter!
Keep it up GH with all the Vets!!!

Mike, Not to be rude but if people come on here and want to post how much they like a show it is their right. No where is it said we only have to discuss the ratings.

  • Bexx

@Jonboy – Only one and I’m harmless, however the impersonator is probably reckless. The only reason people impersonate other users is because they are afraid to deal with the real problem.

@Jay – Thank you! I just went through the process of creating one, hopefully I did it correctly, and it shows up. :-)

@Dinah Sorry, I don’t have internet friends, and I have better things to do with my time than pretend to be my own impersonator to cause trouble, I can do that without the need of an alternate name.

Really loving GH again right now. I think all the shows are doing respectable, and I am happy for soaps in general.

BTW, doesn’t Emma Samms look freakin’ fantastic??? Such a classic beauty that just gets better with age.

Where in my post did I say it was not okay to discuss your favorite show. Not once did I say that.

I was responding to the posts above mine which said comparing GH and The Chew was irrelevant. The ones of us who brought it up were discussing the numbers for those 2 shows and how the shows ranked this week.

My point was only that since it is a ratings site that type of discussion is not irrelevant.

Why do people try to read into and accuse people of stuff they didn’t even say.

I often discuss other things besides numbers on this site, and I could care less what is discussed. But the discussion of numbers on a ratings site is never irrelevant.

I agree with you so far. I am not impressed with it at all. Friday I literally got bored watching Y&R and that is rare for me.

  • Mike

    Pat F,

It is so hard to know how much the TWC blackout has to do with the ratings. They are hardly effecting the prime time ratings at all. Several articles have been posted across the internet about that.

Nielsen has not disclosed how many boxes they have in those households and I doubt they ever will as they keep that type of info private.

There are just so many factors involved with that.

  • Chrisann D

“Since this is a RATINGS site where numbers are supposed to be discussed then no discussion of numbers in regards to shows is irrelevant.

Especially when recently certain posters always seem to boast how the soaps are killing the replacement shows.

We are not discussing which show is more entertaining or which is better but we are discussing the numbers.”
Mike, Sorry if I read more into this than you meant.

Since The Chew and GH air back to back on ABC’s daytime lineup, it’s only natural to compare their numbers. I think some people were very curious. Yes, both shows appear safe for the foreseeable future (ABC is keeping GH thru at least Sept. 2014 as of now), but I’m still not naive enough to think that GH is 100% safe long-term with these ratings, considering the high costs. Again, none of us truly know ABC’s internal thinking, but I think at this point ABC is probably taking it one season at a time and felt obligated to get GH through its 50th anniversary milestone, at least.

I agree with Mike. I think that in the big picture, ABC probably still has an eye open toward looking for something new out there that could succeed in daytime and is inexpensive to produce. If/when they do find something promising at some point, GH (and/or The Chew, if it sharply declines) could very well go. But right now, it’s likely not urgent, as long as GH does not go down anymore than this.

Not sure what you got out of that but what was meant all went toward the discussion of The Chew and GH in particular.

In regards to the Chew we were only discussing their numbers — not trying to get into a debate about whether one was better or one was more entertaining. As that is where that type of discussion usually leads.

Usually the replacement shows are referred to as low grade and the like. But I was not wanting to discuss that. My points were in regards to how much The Chew had increased and the fact that it beat GH this last week.

I have not watched an episode of The Chew since March so I have no opinion on its entertainment value. And I have not watched GH so have no opinion on it either. I just found the numbers interesting this week.

Yes I enjoyed the donut episode on DOOL as well. It was a rare glimpse of underused Kayla and rarer vet Julie being humerous. Julie self- mocking her many cruises with Doug was a delight and shows her character still has a place on DOOL if enough creative thinking is done. Case in point is with JJ’s recent shoplifting arrest-Julie could have been used there because she was arrested for shoplifting herself in the late 60’s. A missed opportunity to weave vet with newbie and both are of the Horton family.

My point is that DOOL should be striving to keep established viewers while attracting new ones-the ratings show they are not succeeding.

I’m not sure if it was an honest mistake, but OWN aired last Thursday’s episode of AMC today instead of a new episode. The OLTL episode appeared to be a new episode (or at least, new to OWN). I wonder if OWN intended to do this or if it was a mistake or how OWN plans to correct it…skip the episode that should have aired today or something else.

I still like Days over all these others. Y&R tries to be like a movie. GH too plus alot of over acting as well as BB. plus BB can be silly thats why its on The Soup more than any other soap. Days has a good set of characters and is consistent to where you can take a few weeks off the show and come back and still catch on. The other soaps have way too many characters where of you take a break from it and come back it’s a brand new set of characters in back to back episodes. And those Huluized all my children and One life to live are catering to younger crowd so hard they might as well air their episodes on Facebook or twitter or have Instagram story boards

The bleeding has finally stopped for each soap. It took 15-20 years but the bleeding has finally stopped.

    Woo-hoo, rock bottom!

Breaking News: Josh Griffith out as head writer at Young and Restless

Executive Producer Jill Phelps will ‘impose her vision’

I hope this is not a recipe for disaster. The show is on a roll now.
One good thing though is that she increased the diversity on the canvas.

Now, as for this so called vision of hers, what it will look like remains to be seen. I hope we don’t have to start being afraid very afraid!!

Glad to see all soaps up.Just wanna see if the Chew can stay above 2 million for it hasn’t for along time and alot of shows are in rerun.Hate Las Vegas NBC took off Days for the fans and moved it to the CW.We have enough news on already why add more.Hope other NBC’s don’t follow.Don’t watch days but feel for the Vegas Fans.I don’t see how adding more news will help that local station.

I believe that both “The Chew” and “The Talk” have wrapped up their new episodes for the 2012-13 season. I saw an advertisement for the season premiere of “The Talk” (scheduled for Sept. 9) and the series is in reruns this week. “The Chew” aired reruns last week and is doing so again this week. Same goes for “The View”. That is probably why Joy Behar left the show on the August 9 episode, as it was the final new episode until the new season starts in September.

I have been loving Days for the last few months, and i just do not understand the ratings anymore, and really could not careless….i do hope it makes its 50th anniversary in 2015….but i am not sure it will, can’t wait to see Kimberly Brady back this fall…..Tim a Days fan of 40 years…

This is just pathetic. I think that advertisers should care about total viewers not just a specific group. Men and women watch these shows. Young and old watch these shows. To just pick one group of people and base your advertising on that group should not even take place. I think that the networks have also got to consider the not same day effect, such as PVRS and downloading of these programs. I think that that is why correct numbers are not being counted. Same thing goes for prime time. The numbers might be low in primetime too, but the viewers are still there. They are just using some of today’s modern innovations to watch TV. Come on, there is an incredibly high unemployment rate everywhere. What do you think these people do all day, sit outside on their porches. The networks would be surprisingly happy if they took this into account. I am a long time fan of Days and it always has been a lower rated soap, but the new and improved and 21st soap is doing it’s best to stay alive, I don’t know what else they can do. They finally won a Daytime emmy and rightly so, but the numbers aren’t there. I watch it on my PVR because I have to work to make a living, and the commercials I see are still there. I am watching their products and see what they are offering, they are still getting their money’s worth for being part of the Days broadcast. NBC has always been a third place ratings network with Fox and the CW catching up. The Today show was in trouble, as with Jay Leno. They have got to stick with what they have. Days has been 3rd place for a while, hope that impresses NBC. Days just needs more time, they are headed in the right direction. Young and Vets , modern stories(GAY), they are trying their best.
