    Oh good for GH!

  • Bexx

Poor Y&R :-( The only solace anyone has is knowing that CBS actually does care about it’s soaps, compared to the other networks. Going to be interesting to see the overall look of Y&R in three months time.

I think the writing/producing’s on the wall: The Avery/Dylan/Chelsea/Adam hour is just not doing it for Y&R. I’ve been watching again since the show started to address Katherine’s death and even THAT powerful of a potential storyline has taken a backseat to the dreaded 4 which to me are a complete snooze fest. Phelps needs to go NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • Jen

I really think the Time Warner blackout is hurting the CBS soaps. Both Y&R and B&B had been up all summer basically including the week before the blackout and now they’ve basically been down every week of the blackout. Hopefully it will be settled soon and everyone will get CBS again!

  • sophie

So HAPPY for GH!!!! Way to go, It’s soooo good right now. All the vets are back
and the writing has been right on. Maxi, Spanelli, Patrick and now Robin is coming back! When you use the vets it works…. GREAT JOB GH!!!!!

  • Chrisann D

Jen I too think that has something to do with their ratings declining. Hopefully the ratings will improve once it is settled. Go Soaps!!

  • Samsung

I’m sure CBS is happy about Y&Rs ratings, they are always happy about the ratings, they are one big happy family everything is happy happy happy…

  • rob60990

You can’t blame the past 2 weeks of drops for CBS’ soaps on the blackout. I knew it was only a matter of time before JFP tanked Y&R.

    Decent week for GH.

  • Mike

It’s just hard to know how much the blackout is hurting them since many of the prime time CBS shows are doing okay. Big Brother has a few down nights but often when final ratings are posted it breaks even. And has even been up two or three times since the blackout.

I just can’t believe the black outs only effect would be showing up in daytime.

Glad to see Days up after several weeks of being down but they are still down big time from last year.

It will be interesting to see how the time changes will effect them with Las Vegas moving it to CW, Utah moving it to 3 a.m., and both CT and Philly moving it to Noon. Any time you move a show you put it in new competition and make people choose. Many will DVR or watch other ways but that will cut down more on live viewers which spells trouble for the budget.

Noticed that Y&R is down now from last year in total viewers (at least for this week). I had hopes for Y&R but my hopes are quickly dwindling with the head writer announcement this week.

I’d be a little worried about Days. First, it was moved to the CW station in Las Vegas, and now comes word that the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City is banishing it to 3 am as of Sept. 9. Also, on NBC in Hartford, CT and Philadelphia (the 4th largest media market) it’s being moved to 12 pm on that date. Whenever local affiliates start moving a show around the schedule like that, it’s not a good sign for the future of that show and it will surely affect the ratings negatively. A number of cancelled soaps over the years were moved around like this late in their runs, hastening their demise. Sad but true.

Yes, Days has the luxury of time to fix things (I think that at this point it will at least reach it’s 50th in 2015), but these station moves certainly don’t help. Honestly, these numbers for Days are abysmal, and it must have fallen to or below a certain base rating in these local markets where the stations were allowed to downgrade it. I think it varies for different shows in different markets on different network affiliates, and the national network itself sets the base rating. I think that’s how it works, more or less. NBC must be paying Sony a licensing fee that is dirt cheap to keep Days on the air.

anyone know when Y&R last lost its top stop among Women 18-34 as it did this week?

  • moshane58

so glad GH is picking up.Its a battle to be on ABC.They would soon see it go away.Hate how some NBC locals are doing Days. Some may no longer able to watch with different times and no DVR.Moving it to the CW in Vegas could be hurting to.Y&R I hope is not hurt by the new boss. She totally destroyed GH.Stopped watching for along time over her destructive choices. With her gone from GH is has really improved. Now back watching and loving it.Hope Time Warner solves it problems with CBS for Y&R n B&B fans.So many soap fans do not have internet.Hopefully they are watching on TVGN.

  • PatF

YR will be back up for the next four weeks or so even with the blackout as they are only going against 4.2-4.3 mil viewers each week.

Then things get interesting for Phelps and her new writers. She’s on notice!

BB is down as well, so I’m not concerned about this being a trend.

  • Sean

GO GH!!! Number ONE in 18-34 & Two in 18-49! GO GH!

  • Mitchell

I’m so glad that GH is up of coursre the writing is back on course!

It should be very interesting to see how Jill Phelps impose her vision at
Y and R. I agree she is on notice herself. It is absurd they fired Head Writer Josh after getting the show back on track.

  • Derrick

I have a feeling the blackout is the reason for CBS tanking! Would have thought it would do something with Katherine’s death being announced! Hopefully it’ll rise when her memorial gets here!

  • feltso gudinya

Don’t you think it’s about time to put these four old war horses out to pasture?. TV has changed dramatically over the last 50 years and these 4 relics of the good old days keep dragging on. Show some mercy and retire them gracefully. In the very least change the day in day out slogging on of the same rehashed story lines and plots and make the stories closed ended like the telenovelas. They couldn’t get any worse. It is almost inhumane watching them slowly die like this.

  • Mike

People on boards keep saying why doesn’t NBC do something to make the affiliates keep Days where it is supposed to be. But NBC won’t and can’t. Two of the affiliates that did this are actually affiliates owned by NBC. This has just always been a set rule for the affiliates that if a show drops below said rating then the affiliates can move it or replace it with a show that is cheaper for them or will get better ratings.

As to Y&R even with Katherine’s death announced the rest of the show is not drawing me in right now. The stories are just boring and about people I am just interested in right now. I have taped every day since Friday of last week and haven’t watched any of them yet. That is the first time in a long time I have done that. There is just nothing making me want to rush to sit down and watch it. I watched last Thursday live and most of the time I was just disinterested in what was happening.

I hope that the Nikki and Jill stories and all will pick up soon and give me a new reason to rush to watch it again.

To feltso gudinya, I think you’ve got all wrong. Yes, I agree, new and fresh stories are hard to come by. I love to tune in daily to see my GH FAMILY. I have been watching since 1977 and I don’t want any of the remaining soaps cancelled to make room for another talk show or worse yet a reality show.

  • J

I like Y&R but some of the characters like Adam are hard to have sympathy for.Neil’s story is boring.I am looking forward to the tribute shows to see old favorites again.Nick/Avery aren’t very interesting unless Sharon goes off the deep end but how many times can they keep using the same old plot.
