Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has been cast as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey.  We don't usually cover movie news, but it's a slow news day, and Hunnan is primarily known for his TV work. Jax Teller is a far cry from a billionaire industrialist but both characters have a dark side and love women who are far more innocent than they are. Hunnam launched his U.S. television career as the cute British exchange student on Undeclared, so he can play a wide range of characters. The role of Christian's love, Anastasia, will be played by Dakota Johnson, daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.  Though this is a high profile, big budget movie, reportedly many film stars were reluctant to take on the roles due to the graphic sexual content of the story. What do you think of this casting? Will it inspire an epic Twitter rant from Sons of Anarchy showrunner Kurt Sutter? Sound off in the comments.

I think the choices are awful. Dakota looks like a young Jillian Anderson. She looks nothing like how the book describes. As for the Christian role, there was only one actor in my mind, Ian Somerholder(sp). Oh well..

    Odd choice.

  • Jesse

    Should have cast Michael Pitt.

Well! I didn’t see that one coming! I can imagine well known, big name actors having a hard time committing to 50 Shades – it’s going to be either a make it or break it role, for sure! I do agree with Ashley – Ian Somerhalder is certainly pretty enough for the role. Oh, well – guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out!

Considering the names that have been floating around the interwebs in the past few months this is quite a letdown…

Fans are not happy with the casting choices, and honestly they have right to not be happy. These were terrible choices.. i have a feeling this movie is doomed now.

let’s hope it stays true to the source material and is terribly written and ridiculously plotted with cartoonishly unbelievable characters.

I think his acting chops make him above doing a movie like this, but I hope it’s good for his career, although I doubt it. Maybe Universal is throwing the big money at him

  • Melanie

    Very interesting.

  • Wright

I had NO interest in seeing this movie until Charlie Hunnam was cast. Now I have to see it.

    Charlie es a great actor

  • Jiji Moran

I’ll watch this movie if it has a compelling story, realistic special effects, great cinematography, exceptional acting, and a novel execution. Othewise, I don’t think so.

Haven’t read the book, and won’t waste my money that way. May rent the DVD/BR, if reviews on rottentomatoes rate it higher than 70 percent.

I’m so sick of celebrity children. People deserve movie roles because of their talent not because their parents are famous. Anyway Charlie Hunnman is sexy and he can act.
