The Killing Season 3

The Killing has been cancelled by AMC for a second time.  The show was cancelled after its second season last year only to be resurrected for a third season in a deal between Fox Television Studios (which produced the show) AMC and Netflix.  The third season finale aired on August 4, 2013.

AMC issued the following statement:

"We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of The Killing."  "We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched."

Fox Television Studios issued its own statement:

"Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of all three seasons of The Killing. We’re especially gratified to have orchestrated a unique deal with AMC for season three that included a bold partnership with Netflix. While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series: our brilliant cast, led by Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and season three's Peter Sarsgaard, our stellar executive producer, Veena Sud, a remarkable writing and producing team, and a tireless, dedicated crew. Most of all, FTVS thanks the terrific fans of The Killing, who communicated their appreciation for the show throughout its run."

The third season ratings weren’t great or anything, but they’re certainly better Low Winter Sun. If this is done, that show’s a goner.

Nothing really changes in regards to AMC’s shows… I think the majority of people knew The Killing was going to be axed again (pending another Netflix miracle).

HOW is now a lock for renewal. Especially since it hit another over 2 mil live viewers and .5 demo on a Saturday.

LWS’ renewal is the only true “bubble” show remaining. (I think its a goner too IMO). Unless AMC feels it can gain steam into a second season.

Not a big shock, ratings didn’t improve so it was cancelled. I expect the same to happen to Unforgettable, Drop Dead Diva, and likely Necessary Roughness (Even though that was never cancelled)

Awwww, rats. I thought it had a shot, given the lousy showing LOW WINTER SUN is giving.

  • Andies

I thought they might give another season a go since Low Winter Sun has performed badly.. My guess they will give Low Winter Sun another chance. Maybe it can be a Netflix only show for season 4????? hmmm

  • Kris

get rid of LWS, get rid of the killing. Try again to capture the epicness of series like The walking dead, breaking bad and mad men. Hire good creators.

Eh, it’s a bit of a shock. The show was probably much cheaper to producer now, and the ratings weren’t drastically different than the first season, at least in the demos available to us.

    Nooo, I love this one!

Mildly surprised but not shocked The Killing has been axed once more. With the low ratings for LWS & BB ending should be good news for fans like myself of HOW coming back for a 4th season. Hopefully AMC has a good slate of pilots ready to go as Mad Men ends its run next year also.

crap they canceled it so they can renew low winter sun !!

  • Other Than THAT MrsLincoln? How Was The Play?

Wouldnt a better headline be ‘The Killing’ KILLED (again)By AMC After 3rd Season

  • Other Than THAT Mrs Lincoln? How Was The Play?

I guess what killed The Killing was that AMC wasnt making a killing on it so they hit the Kill switch and killed The Killing like a zombie in Walking Dead.

  • Johnny

Odd decision. I’ve given up on LWS after Sunday’s absolutely awful episode. I couldn’t even make it through 20 minutes of the show.

HOW is now a lock for renewal which is fine since I enjoy that show more than the Killing.

AMC will not cancel Low Winter Sun until after the final episode airs.

  • sam

    so who killed Rosie??

If it was that easy, every show would be a hit.

    why drop dead diva?

    Or not….

A shame. Vastly improved after season 2. It was very well done. Also they revealed Rosie’s killer at the end of season 2. This season was a new mystery involving a serial killer preying on homeless and runaway teens. Netflix should pick this up. Doubtful though.
