“Big Brother: After Dark” To Also Return to TVGN for Second Season

Special 90-Minute Finale of this Summer’s Installment to be Broadcast Sept. 18 Following the Season Premiere of "Survivor”

CBS announced today that BIG BROTHER, the summer reality hit, has been renewed for its 16th edition, to be broadcast next summer.

BIG BROTHER: AFTER DARK, the live, late night companion show will also return next summer to the basic cable network TVGN after being renewed for an additional season.

BIG BROTHER, which recently celebrated its 500th episode, premiered on CBS in 2000 and has since established itself as a summer staple with one of television’s most socially engaged fan bases.  This summer, BIG BROTHER is averaging 7.29 million viewers, 2.6 in adults 18-49 and 3.1 in adults 25-54.  Compared to last year, BIG BROTHER is up +11% in viewers, +8% in adults 18-49 and +7% in adults 25-54.

The special 90-minute finale of the current installment of BIG BROTHER, when the final three Houseguests will compete for the $500,000 prize, will be broadcast Wednesday, Sept. 18 (9:30-11:00 PM, ET/PT) immediately following the season premiere of SURVIVOR.

BIG BROTHER is executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan for Fly on the Wall Entertainment, in association with Endemol USA.

@Darryl Lacking ratings? A mass majority of the episodes were in the 2.0-2.5 range all season! Pretty fantastic for a cheap summer show in its 15th season.

Congrats on the renewal BB! Just step up the casting next season ;)

Also, from the press release (in combined Live+7 numbers)…

Compared to last year, BIG BROTHER is up +11% in viewers, +8% in adults 18-49 and +7% in adults 25-54.

This cast was absolute crap. But, what is the fun is seeing people play we already know? Besides, BB13 and BB14 had returning players. And those people are most likely “all stars” and seeing them a third time would be boring. BIG BROTHER needs to do something within the casting department and really screen these people OR they could implement a punishment system for saying really nasty things. Even though this cast failed, that doesn’t mean I want to see the same people over and over.

  • John

How the hell were the ratings lacking in any shape or form? It was the second highest rated show of the summer most nights after Under the Dome and performed better than last season. It even did better than most shows during the regular season.

  • Carl

They need to replace Alison Grodner.

No more All Stars unless you fix your producing and casting and twists. The BB13 returning people were horrible to watch. BB14, Dan and Britney were the only two people in the house I ever liked, along with Ian. This is out of over a dozen people.

  • joel

The terms “Big Brother” and “all-stars” are mutually exclusive.

  • Nick

Why does everyone think next season will be all-stars? CBS has had enough of its past stars coming back since the last all-star edition. I highly doubt it will happen, especially with news of a new casting director being hired for next season.

And also, there was no chance CBS wasn’t renewing Big Brother. It’s one of their biggest money makers. Not only is it dirt cheap to produce, but even in the summer, it rates higher than the majority of their dramas and is basically on par with the latest Survivor and Amazing Race ratings. And the show gets huge online buzz, and they’re also making money off of After Dark. Huge, huge money maker that will probably be around for many years to come.

  • Bob

Yes! Great news! Although expected. It is a hit in the Summer. I would like to have Jason and Danielle from I think Season 3…..also that one blond haired girl from Georgia who drank too much….she was a hoot.

  • Melanie P.

Glad it has been renewed also, but don’t really see the need for another all stars season though. That already happened back in 2006 when Mike “Boogie” won and in BB13 when Jeff, Jordan, Evil Dick (for a couple of days) Danielle, Brendan and Rachel were there and last year with Britney, Janelle, Boogie and Dan there as coaches. Although it still performed well, this season rubbed many the wrong way with all the racist, sexist and homophobic comments that were said over the live feeds, so hopefully next year they can screen better and let the players know that will not be tolerated and be respectful of one another because they are playing a game. I know you have to have some drama to keep things interesting but alot of the behaviors this season has been off the charts!! Anyways, I have been a BB fan since season 1 so I will still be watching next year and whatever years it continues afterwards.

They need to seriously make this in High Definition already, this is not 2007 where people were transiting into HDTV, it’s 2013, next year it will be 2014. C’mon already!

AND NO TO RACHEL, she’s so damn annoying, her sister Elissa is much more bearable. I wanna see Ginna Marie in All Stars she’s entertaining to watch.

  • ChadCronin

I want HD and pretty people. I want fun times in the hot tub and not shy houseguests changing under towels yawn. We don’t need so much hate and negativity. More fun and showmances and bubble bathes and stuff that made it worth watching on the cams. This season was really bad with casting and the vibe.

  • Networkman

I would love to see an international edition. That would be very interesting. Have contestants from the US, London, Spain, China, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Russia, South Africa etc. Otherwise I would love to see a young vs. senior edition. I really would like to see several contestant in their late 50’s and up. It would be fun to see how they would strategize, considering they may not be as strong in some of the physical competitions. But I’ll take anything as long as it is not another All-Star season.

  • Steve

This show is probably dirt cheap for CBS to produce. There was no way it would get canceled. It performs as well and better in some instances (when it was pulling 2.3-.5’s) than regular season scripted shows without all the cost of a scripted. No brainer here. Unless it was pulling like 0.5’s, it would be back.

  • charmedcraft

I’m not surprised anymore, all people want to watch is trash and all networks care about is ratings.

  • bob

    lol people still watch this

  • SG

At least Aaryn apologized last night. Still love BB in it’s 15th season. Hopefully Julie Chen can get a new stylist for next year!

  • Mike

BB may get a new producer next year but I doubt you will see any change. They will do it to make fans think so.

But they will keep with the interference and the stupid casting because it works. Even as disgusting as this group has been and this final group. People are still watching. The last 2 shows the ratings have gone up.

I’ve give up on the show. I have not watched since the 500th episode. That did me in. I will never watch again. Before that I never missed a show. But that week on the feeds and then the edits just did it for me. It was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

  • Darryl

I suppose I forgot to factor in the ratings last season and the overall landscape of summertime television. My apologies for sounding ignorant.

  • Nasir

Hopefully next year they cast actual game players with interesting personalities rather than a bunch of followers.

  • Steve

This season overall was very forgettable because there was rarely ever an eviction where a sheep stranded from the heard and voted on their own. It did give us a great super villain though. We WILL see Amanda again in another season. She was too hated to go out in one season.
