LOS ANGELES (September 12, 2013) – The Parents Television Council is calling on its members to contact Congress to express the urgent need for a consumer cable choice solution in response to the violent and sexually graphic premiere of FX’s “Sons Of Anarchy,” which featured a young boy committing a school shooting, simulated rape scenes, torture of women, and a man who was drowned in a bathtub of urine.

“What FX chose to show – a scene of a young boy murdering innocent children in a school with a semi-automatic gun – is enough of a reason for consumers to have The Choice not to underwrite such horrifically violent and disturbing material. Think about the parents who have been personally affected by real-life school shootings – even they were forced to contribute to FX on their cable bills. This is an outrage, and the time for consumers to have real choice has come,” said PTC President Tim Winter.

“Changing the channel is simply not enough – that’s a lazy excuse from the cable industry’s own talking points that does not address the real problem. Consumers are forced to subsidize cable networks like FX just to get access to networks they do watch. It’s clear to see that the cable industry model of forcing consumers to buy bundles of networks is broken.

“We urge Congress to take seriously the Television Consumer Freedom Act, which will allow consumers the ability to choose and pay for only the cable networks they want, and the Video CHOICE Act, which would pave the way for a choice solution. It’s time for consumers to have a real voice in what they want to pay for on their cable bills.”

While the PTC is ridiculous, I’d love to have the opportunity to choose which debaucherous networks I pay for.

  • Robin

wow I think I have to start watching sons of anarchy

  • Jayme

If Soa was on network tv maybe Ptc would have a case but its on a premium channel.

  • Alan

PTC is a pain in the a**. Come on, the only thing they think it’s appropiate to watch is Dora the Explorer

  • Mike, DDS

It’s on cable at 10PM and it’s rated TV-MA. What more of a warning do parents need?

  • Chuck

The right wing PTC is probably against any kind of gun legislation, yet they don’t want the reality of the situation portrayed on TV. Hypocrites.

  • r0ckmypants

Does TVBTN pick and choose which press releases to post? Because you really should just not post the ones from PTC… they’re pointless, aggravating, and tiresome.

  • Karen

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I have never seen an SOA episode, you don’t have to either. You have to pay to watch it! Let’s keep the government entities away from censorship. People, get over it, it’s television and it’s not real.

  • dg

what a joke if your up with your kids and you have sons on then guess what its your fault if they see what that show is about and as for adults who conplain yes it can be hard to watch but its been that way since the 1st ep no one is forcing u to watch it but i think for the people who hated the way it ended should be glad they didn’t actually show the kid shooting everyone it was off screen so grow a pair

  • Alan

And how the hell they call FX a network nobody watches? SOA has awesome ratings. They need to do their research before they start bitching.

  • AppleStinx

I didn’t watch it, but drowning a man in a bathtub of urine crosses the line. Let’s be real, how many people would it take to fill a bathtub?

  • Neil

My cable payments go towards Al Jazeera America, MSNBC, and other liberal socialist garbage. My tax dollars go towards Planned Parenthood and PBC trash like Travis Smiley. That is just how it is. I have been taking it on the chin and in the wallet for a long time. Suck it up PTC and change the channel like we have to!!!!!

  • AppleStinx

Not to mention that such a bathtub would be impossible to approach without WMD masks.

  • Neil

Better yet i would love to pick and choose channels like PTC wants. MSNBC, CNBC, Al Jazeera, and other crap would be out of business but i have a feeling comcast would use it as a way to increase profits. BTW i would dump ESPN for hiring back Keith Olbermann,, that tool

  • Neil

NOTE: they didn’t actually show the kid doing a shooting. he just went into a school and then you heard shoot and what not. they are acting like you saw some heinous thing on tv. #asshats

  • Brian Fredricks

All TVs have a channel changer and an off switch. Feel free to use them. As well most now have parental locks(this may require some effort on your part such as readings manual) The TV is not your babysitter. Maybe try Parenting your children yourself.

  • gerry

no one that gives a flying F what the PTC says isn’t watching this show anyhow so shut the F up PTC! god!

  • gerry

    **is watching

  • JacobYates

    @Chuck
Way to bring politics into a discussion having nothing to do with politics.

  • JacobYates

    @Neil
Was that necessary? Just say you’d like to choose what channels to pay for. The liberal, socialist trash comments were unnecessary. I am not saying I agree with them, but this post should be about how stupid the PTC is, not about how stupid MSNBC is.
