So happy for the soaps; great gratings

  • Joseph

    Eleven words:

Summer Vacation Is Over And The Children Are Back In School.

Thus, housewives (and night workers who watch TV in mid-afternoon and enjoy soaps) are now at home in greater numbers than they were during the Summer.

As an example, many housewives probably had to spend time with their children on weekday afternoons and not in front of a TV set.

  • PatF

I was kind of surprised that Kay’s memorial didn’t garner higher ratings, but all the demos looked great for YR.

Congrats to Days for its big week over week increase finally, and again to BB for still being up almost a half million over last year.

  • noah snyder

    thanks @joey s

for posting these excellent GH numbers!

we have to fight the lies and distortions of certain people with facts and figures, so more people see through their fake comments!

i mean, for them it’s not about GH being better or worse than DAYS and so on, they are just trying to put a negative spin on ALL of our soaps.

  • sophie

I so agree with Sean… GH is on FIRE!!!!! It’s so good right now!
And to Joey I couldn’t agree more, with everything you’ve said too.
And THANKS for the #’s on GH… I’m so very glad about that! The show
really is so good with all the Vets, stories, and It looks like alot
of LOVE in the afternoon again!!!!!

  • Bexx

Joey the hypocrite! The same hypocritical control freak who tried to dictate topics around here. Thankfully the co-owner of the site has already put to bed any hopes that our conversations will be policed due to hypersensitive fan boys.

I’m guessing all those emails you wasted countless hours typing went straight to trash, or better yet the spam box.

  • Nick

Oh, I’m scared (sarcasm). You have zero right to bully and berate me or anyone else who disagrees with you about your precious soaps, loser. I speak for most people in the real world when I say these three words to you: GET A LIFE! Now go change your diapers. If you spoke to my face what you typed above, I’d punch you in the face.

Do you throw a tantrum every time someone in your life presents a different opinion to you and/or an opinion that you don’t want to hear? Stay classy, jerk.

  • Bexx

SoapFans aren’t you doing the same thing that you’re criticizing Nick about? You post the same anti soap lobbyist trash on every board, using countless aliases. You presume that those of us who don’t wish to join hands with some of the deluded bottom pecking GHers that it some how means we are anti-soap.

  • Nick

I agree 100% with Bexx. You’ve been exposed and are so full of it. Busted!! How does that feel? HAHAHA

I wish the owner of this site or the person who oversees this board would put an end, once and for all, to the jerks like SFT who bully anyone who disagrees with their narrow-minded (dead wrong) garbage and ruin it for all the rest of us who want to have reasonable conversations and debates. Sorry folks.

Funny GH is on fire to everyone, except to ABC. GH never stays on top for long, it has a couple good weeks and takes a noise-dive, then ultimately crashes. That is the reason why it will never be considered a top rated show. Bravo to ABC for not wasting precious dollars on promotion, or press releases. History always repeats itself, they know that little ship all too well.

  • SoapFansTogether

    Quote “Bexx”:

“Funny GH is on fire to everyone, except to ABC.”

Once again Bexx and his best buddies are demonstrating that they are clowns who ignore the facts. Or are they just semi-illiterate?

It’s already been said in this thread:

With only a couple weeks remaining in the 2012/13 season, General Hospital is pacing for its strongest season in 5 years in Total Viewers (2.97 million), generating the biggest year-to-year increases of any broadcast daytime drama (+14% – vs. 2.61 million), and is also up the most season to season in Women 18-34 (+36% – 253,000 vs. 186,000) and Women 18-49 (+7% – 770,000 vs. 719,000).”

Why in the world can’t soap fans just be soap fans without all the nonsense. In this day and age you either have to be a soap opera 100% cheerleader or you are not a true fan.

I love my soaps and want them to prosper but that doesn’t mean I am going to be cheering 100% every day over every single thing about them. It is so stupid.

So what if 1 person thinks something is on fire and another person doesn’t. It is all a matter of opinion. Last week I hated Thursday on Y&R but evidently a bunch of other people did. So what.

According to some of you all those people who tuned in on Tuesday and then tuned back out on Wednesday aren’t fans at all. People do have lives people. And people have different tastes.

And bouncing around on every board combining the totals of the ratings and yelling that all other soap fans have an anti-soap agenda is stupid too. And this fight over the talk and game shows is so stupid too. Trying to get rid of them is not going to get us more soaps.

I grew up in a time when soaps, game shows, and talk shows existed together. The soaps pushed them all out as they got more popular in the late 70s and 80s. And the soaps got too big for their britches and created these big budgets that when ratings dropped the networks couldn’t keep up with.

The situation is reversing now and talk and game shows are making a comeback. And personally I am happy. I love a mixture and a variety in daytime.

Soaps will make a comeback someday too but right now is not it. If soaps were as big as some fans make them out to be then some cable network would have already filled their daytime lineup with them but they haven’t. Right now the soaps that the public wants are the ones in prime time like Cedar Cove on Hallmark, etc.

Soaps are alive in prime time and they will continue to be. But the soaps as we knew them in daytime are dead for now. They couldn’t even make it on the Internet for 4 days a week for 30 minutes.

I’m thankful for the shows I have left and I will support them til they are gone. All this other stuff is stupid.

  • Nick

@SoapFansTogether (too scared to have a real name, apparently)

If you want to see a “clown” up close, I’d advice you to look in the mirror. If you cannot respond to people with dissenting opinions without resorting to classless, juvenile name-calling, then GET LOST and try actually doing something productive with your life. Your mommy needs to change your diaper ASAP.

And people like this have the audacity to demand that soap opera fans be taken seriously. It will NEVER happen with that kind of attitude.

  • Mike

What I meant for them being dead is that there aren’t going to be any new ones. Some day they will come back in a new format, but 5 days a week with the big budgets just isn’t working.

Until someone comes along to reinvent the wheel in a right way. We will just watch the ones we have continue to tread water and struggle as the networks strip their budgest year after year.

  • Bexx

You expect to counter my argument with ONE post from ABC, yet how many weeks has GH fans claimed it was fire, and not a single word from the big boys? I guess you missed all those sad, tearful and worried posts from GHers because ABC was out promoting Katie and NOT GH. I laugh at anyone who thinks ABC is suddenly in love with GH. How is a show on fire when it’s fans are still worried about cancellation? Get back to me once GH takes it rightful place back at the bottom, and certain fan boys go quite.

  • sophie

Bexx, GH has been in 3rd place for most of the last year! Days has been in
3rd a total of maybe 4 or 5 weeks. I’m very proud of GH right now. They are
giving fans what they want, a very good show. We are very proud of the show and the writng, and all the vets on as well. GH is on FIRE, and It’s only going to get better, after the last few weeks. Great suspense and LOVE!!!!
    Way to go GH!!!!!

  • Bexx

When CBS goes up they want to spread the word right away, ABC only makes a mere mention after a few weeks of high numbers, GH ends up tanking shortly after. Won’t be long before fans start blaming it on the kids being back to school, saying Mary-Sue is too busy cooking, cleaning, and Christmas shopping to tune in.

  • Bexx

Wonderful Sophie! Glad you are enjoying your show, and have such high expectations for it.

  • Mike

I don’t know why soap fans keep holding on to this 3rd or 4th place either. Being 3rd out of 4 soaps is not anything to brag about anymore.

If we only knew where they are in regards to all the other daytime shows it would be wonderful, but no one is willing to pay for those numbers for us to get them.

Position among the 4 soaps is just nothing to brag about anymore. And that is why you don’t get press releases for much in daytime anymore until a show makes a significant increase or shoots up to the top 5 or something of all daytime programs.

  • Robbee 66

I just love the way GH has been of late. Bringing on Maura West and William DeVry has been nothing less than brilliant. Can’t wait for Robin. I just wish they wouldn’t keep a lot of the vets off weeks at a time. RV & RC did that on OLTL also. I am waiting for the Deception story. Monica and Tracy were touching as was Anna and Maxie. Sonny puts me to sleep at times but Ava will change that.
