Concerning AMC and OLTL on OWN, according to episode descriptions and my on-screen guide, Prospect Park’s OLTL will wrap up on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The following day, my guide has OWN airing OLTL at 1:00 and AMC at 1:30. Neither Thursday episode has a description, so I don’t know how accurate this information is…the daily grids are updated each night, so what actually airs on Thursday may or may not be what is currently being shown as airing.

  • Mike

    Jay,

I just wonder if they will be re-airing some OLTL episodes just to finish out since AMC had several episodes after OLTL finished.

It was originally announced it would be for 10 weeks.

OLTL only had 40 episodes to air. With 4 episodes a week for both shows then unless they go past the 10 weeks only OLTL will finish it’s run on OWN as AMC had over 40 episodes to air.

More people are unemployed can watch soaps longer yay!!

It’s the online streaming, Dvr, iTunes buying, social networking that helps the ratings right?

“It’s the online streaming, Dvr, iTunes buying, social networking that helps the ratings right?”

Ratings measure TV advertisement viewing (including on DVR) to set the price of TV advertising.

They are not meant to measure popularity, or anything else.

Mike…AMC having more episodes than OLTL is why I found it odd that OWN would flip the two soaps on Thursday. I thought that OWN may double up on AMC and air two episodes a day once OLTL has finished up. As I said before, OWN may ultimately decide to do that, as the daily schedule grids have a habit of changing before the actual airing takes place (also both the AMC and OLTL episode slated for Thursday does not have a specific description, just a generic listing).

  • Mike

    Jay,

My guide now has the regular schedule of AMC and OLTL on Thursday at the regular time (11 eastern). The OLTL listing says an overview of the series.

Then at Noon eastern it has OLTL and then AMC with the same synopsis for those 2 episodes as the hour before (just reversed).

Wow I can not believe the bickering on this site today. It seems that numbers are all that people care about. True that is important but no one is talking about the storyline on their show. Ratings are up on all the soaps but no one mentioned that Days grew, even with some of the affiliates changing their time slot or even dropping them all together as in Vegas. As for story telling Days has been trying to be as modern as possible. Bringing in the Will gay storyline was excellent. Emmys for Chandler and Days goes to prove that. I am wandering if that is actually hurting them. One Life to Live blamed their ratings drop and backlash for that. But as another poster has stated, soaps have got to come up with something new and help bring viewers in. Days is trying to stay fresh. But coming up with new storylines for 52 weeks a years must be difficult. I love the Daniel and Jennifer’s story. I love the heartache that Abby is going to feel and family when Chad dies from his brain tumor.  Sure they can modernize a little bit with their opening theme, but that is what fans recognize as their family crest. NBC promote Days on primetime and let people know that Days is still relevant. All you seem to do is promote
The Black List and Ironside during Days as if these shows need some additional help. We do have lives, and part of our lives is the family that are shows have brought us on daytime.

Y&R definitely bettered themselves by moving from SoapNet to TVGN. This from a press release about their first 10 weeks on TVGN:

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (Y&R) on TVGN, which airs every weeknight at 7:00 PM ET/PT, drove triple-digit increases for the time period among households (+198%) and women 25-54 (+125%). Y&R has averaged 362,000 total viewers, a +199% increase in the time period and delivered TVGN’s biggest weekly audience Monday through Friday at 7:00-8:00 PM ever among households and women 25-54.

The reason that not many talk about story lines here is because this is primarily a ratings site so of course there is going to more talk about numbers. Plus this is a ratings thread.

We talk about them in regards to how they might be affecting ratings and stuff but that is not the primary focus of discussion. There are numerous sites on the Internet with threads about story lines and I usually limit my talk of story lines and stuff to those type of threads.

cab…concerning the “Days” and OLTL gay storylines, I think OLTL went a little overboard on that particular storyline. First you had Kyle and Fish, then you had a few other characters (including the female psychic, whose name I forget). Then you had Dorian faking being a lesbian in order to gain votes, combined with a storyline about gay marriage. It just seemed like too much gay too soon. “Days” has been very limited in their gay storyline…it is basically Will and Sonny, and to a smaller extent, Brent. The “Days” storyline also doesn’t seem to be overtly political like OLTL’s gay marriage sidetrack was. (I remember that some people even blamed OLTL’s storyline for helping defeat a few gay marriage bills on election day.)

I don’t know if “Days” has officially confirmed who will replace Chandler Massey as Will Horton, but according to Wikipedia, Jen Lilley tweeted the news that Guy Wilson will take over the role in 2014. With no apparent recast for Gabi, I wonder if that character will exit the series with her and Will’s daughter (and hopefully, Nick).

    We gotta watch our soaps.

  • PatF

YR getting good numbers on TVGN which I’m assuming are mostly first time views. If added to their totals here, looks like around 5 mil watching, which is healthy.

Great to see Heather back on GH…always coincides with a rise in ratings.

    Message to Ron Calivati:
Please! To continue the GH ratings surge, AND FOR MERCY’S SAKE, kill off Keekee and the dimwit male model, Morgan. Let Heather do her work, inflicting bloody mayhem on them with that big blade she was wielding today.
I’ve considered everything from Prozac to a lobotomy so I can watch those two dunderheads. Please don’t leave me such choices.

  • jonboyelk

    LOL @ Jason. I agree!

I am a loyal fan of Days. The only reason that I would watch a talk show, or other programming is if a favourite actor or musician was on that show. That includes daytime and nighttime. I don’t know why anyone would watch a bunch of women gossiping or a late night show unless there was a reason to watch. So if the networks are counting on these type of shows, I will be one of those people that do not watch that show.

  • jonboyelk

@cab I’m with you all the way. Never watched any talk show on a regular basis; only when a guest was on I’ve wanted to see. This year so far I can count on the fingers of one hand, with some left over, how many times I’ve watched one—day or night. I’d rather watch nothing than listen to a gabfest, especially those on The View whose only view is their own.
