Miss America 2014 2

via press note:

Opposite strong competition from NBC’s Sunday Night Football (Seattle vs. San Francisco) and CBS’ NFL overrun-boosted lineup, ABC’s Sunday 9-11pm broadcast of The 2014 Miss America Competition surged over its most recent telecast in Total Viewers (+18% - 4th straight year of viewer growth) and Adults 18-49 (+19%) to deliver the program’s best numbers since 2004.   ABC was the #1 non-sports network in the time period. Building steadily throughout its 2-hour telecast, the numbers for The Miss America Competition grew by 3.0 million viewers and by 53% in young adults from its first half-hour to its final half-hour. During its final half-hour from 10:30-11pm, as Miss New York Nina Davuluri was crowned, The Miss America Competition drew 9.8 million viewers and a 2.3 rating, 6 share with young adults.  In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC earned its strongest entertainment numbers in the time slot in 4 months – since 5/19/13.

Wasn’t 2004 the last time the Miss America pageant was held in Atlantic City??

Good move by the organizers to return the pageant to where it belongs and to mid-September, when it should be held.

I’m pretty certain that the pageant was launched in the early 1920′s with the purpose of trying to extend Atlantic City’s Summer tourist season for a couple of weeks past Labor Day.

I can’t believe an Arab won Miss America … wait, what? you mean the Twitterverse is wrong?!? How can that be?! Is it possible some Americans have made an assumption solely based on the color of a persons skin?! And then run with that assumption making themselves look like complete buffoons? Say it ain’t so! I just don’t know what to believe in anymore … my world is crumbling.

    ymmv

Mother Nature may have been one of the reasons for the rise this year.
On the west coast when the Seahawks/49ers game was delayed because of the lightning storm, the pageant was going on at the same time. Probably quite a few football fans switched over the to pageant while they were waiting for the game to resume.

BTW, next time during the introductions of the Miss America pageant, please don’t have the girls be dancing again. It looked like they were choreographed by Elaine Benes. That wasn’t good for anybody.
