The 2013-14 season is upon us. Fox premieres a few of their new shows this week, and the season officially begins next Monday, September 23.  Here's a repost of our earlier look at how each night stacks up.

Even More New Shows Than Last Year

Last year there were 20 new shows debuting in the early fall -- that count excludes "Fox Sports Saturday" and also excludes "Malibu Country" which didn't debut until later in the fall. This year there are more than 25% more new shows for a total of 26 -- that count excludes "Almost Human" and "Enlisted" which won't debut until later in the fall.

What Catches Ratings Watchers Eyes?

There will be no shortage of things to capture a ratings watcher's attention . How will CBS's expanded Thursday comedy block and new Monday comedies fare? How well will The Voice age? What happens to Person Of Interest on a new night and later time with a smaller lead in? Revolution at 8pm? How bad is it going to be for Beauty And The Beast on a new day with Hart Of Dixie as its lead-in?

But at least at the start of the season I can't imagine anything will capture more attention, even with ratings watchers, than the launch of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.  Maybe I just lack imagination.  Those watching the NBA Finals on ABC in June can get back to me after they've seen the Agents of SHIELD promo for the 10,000th time.

Grids-2013

Note: When we originally created these grids last Spring, Fox's Enlisted was scheduled to premiere on Fridays in late Fall. It is now scheduled to premiere on January 10.

    Scratch that Sleepy Hollow deals with the supernatural but you get my point.

    Agents of Shield – Could be good if it is not a bait and switch with Joss, as it could very well turn out to be. The only known involvement is that he ‘created’ the show and wrote/directed the pilot. So episode 1 will be great, but after that it could all be second-stringers. Glad the CW put the Originals up against it, instead of leading with Supernatural into the Tomorrow People. This is the strongest looking new show for the CW, but the promos also show that it might just develop a bit to fast, and jump their shark.

    Fox looks dead except for the weekends, and NBC has Monday (burying Chicago Fire @ 10 behind that crap means fewer live +3 for it, so Tuesday is a loss).

    Not sure what the CBS logic is in burying Hostages is after four comedies, especially when going up against NBC’s only new entrant – Blacklist. It must be the same CBS logic that repeats this feat on Thursdays with Elementary, which probably explains why I PVR it and watch it whenever I get around to it (easy to solve puzzles are not a ‘must see’).

    Sleepy Hollow, Ironside, and OAaTiW – Seriously? Given the current looting of old ideas, I would not be surprised to see someone ‘re-start’ X-Files, Welcome Back Kotter, or Bonanza.

    I just read in tv guide that The Glades has been cancelled. Never saw that one coming. I guess Vegas isn’t coming back either. bummer. Funny how shows that were cancelled after one season come back in different dressings but are primarily the same. Brooklyn 99, (The Good Guys) Agents of Shield, (Chaos)
    I’m with Ben on not getting too interested in a good quality show, good writing, good acting, for fear it will be cancelled before the season is over.
    Don’t care if Following is back. Too many unbelievable screwups by the FBI
    I didn’t think they were that incompetent.
    Is Suburgatory coming back? I see one of the stars is in Enlisted, so maybe not.

    Blacklist is NBC ripping of Hannibal. NBC, why do you feel the need to rip off your own series?

  • Jermal

    @rainbowtwizzler

    If you actually paid attention to the show Hannibal doesn’t provide Graham a list of dangerous criminals like in the Blacklist. If anything the premise reminds me of Silence Of the Lambs since both female leads are rookie FBI agents and that both Red(Blacklist) and Hannibal have an hidden agenda to their involvment in the women’s case(s). Also the relationship dynamics of the two leads in Blacklist is alot like Hannibal and Clarice.

  • Jermal

    I will also add that Hannibal didn’t start killing until midway into season 1 while it is already been established on the Blacklist that Red is a criminal. If season 2 of Hannibal introduces Clarice Starling then you can really start comparing the 2 NBC series but as of now Blacklist seem more like an altered version of Silence Of The Lambs.

    What the heck happened to Mike and Molly and Body of Proof?

  • Jermal

    @Mary Ann

    Mike & Molly is a mid season show now and again Body Of Proof was cancelled last season.
