Sleepy Hollow cast

Sleepy Hollow, FOX's latest genre show, premieres tonight. It's a quirky spin on the classic Washington Irving novela with Ichabod Crane waking up in the present day and teaming up with a sheriff to battle the Headless Horseman and unravel a complex conspiracy. The reviews have been largely positive. The question is whether the show will deliver strong ratings. In its favor, it has a solid lead-in in Bones.  Working against it, it is facing off against bi and the premiere of Dancing with the Stars

. Last season, The Mob Doctor premiered in the same time period on Monday, September  17 to a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. Many thought it would be the first show of the season to get canceled, but it hung on and aired for 13 episodes..

For comparison to other FOX genre shows in the time period , two seasons ago, the two hour premiere of Terra Nova debuted with a strong 3.1 adults 18-49 rating on September 26, 2011.  Ratings for subsequent episodes, of course, tumbled and the show was not picked up for a second season. So how do you think Sleepy Hollow will fare tonight?

  • Oliver

    The genius of this show is that it appeals to lots of demographics.

    Female? Sexy male lead, female lead.

    Male? Crazy mythology genre show, headless horseman with a machine gun

    Young? Crazy mythology, headless horseman with a machine gun

    Old? It’s a cop show with a history bent, classic mythology.

    Black? Black female lead kicking ass. When did you last see that in a genre show?

    Really marketable with some really distinctive imagery.

  • Edward

    It’s a genre show with a big ad campaign and a familiar premise. It will do the same kind of strong number that these shows always do. 2.8 sounds about right.

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

    Fox pretty much spent half of the commercials during their day games on promoting Sleepy Hallow. I say 2.8-3.2 range with a big drop next week. I have not seen a single promo for Bones though.
    I also saw a bunch of ads for New Girl, Mindy Project, and Dads. A lot less for Brooklyn 99 for some reason

  • Toni

    No way it will go above 2.0 …

  • Jamie04

    I think it will do well in the premiere (2.5), then drop off each week.

  • gerry

    i’m guessing 2.0 with the obvious dip in the coming weeks.

  • JR35

    I’ll go with the 2.5-2.7 range. I may give it a try.

  • Kenny

    Really? 1.6 or lower. If you don’t watch Fox you have no clue this is premiering. That is a bad sigh.

  • CraveRecords

    @TVMAN: That slipped my mind. I was so focused on the high profile Lone Star, Terra Nova, Mob Doctor…I forgot they had one of the biggest hits in that spot last spring.

    Wow, Oliver. Black female but not sexy or attractive…hmm.

  • danny94

    this show looks fun so I am rooting for it to do well however I think it will land somewhere between a 2.1-2.4

  • Oliver

    @Can’t remember

    Putting a black lead encourages black audiences to watch. Why is that a bad thing? Diversity is good, especially given how white genre shows tend to be.

    And Beharie’s attractive but nothing exceptional by TV standards, whereas I’ve seen lots of women commenting about Tom Mison.

  • Can’t remember

    @ Oliver…sure. I think Nicole is an excellent actress so not really sure what diversity has to do with anything. I also think she’s as pretty a female as Tom is handsome a male. She’s not sexy or attractive…just a black female kicking ass. Who said anything was bad?

    Just noting your race based biases…that’s all.

  • Nothing But Cancellation

    2.0 because it doesn’t have any competition (DWTS is a decadent show).

    Next week with The Voice and CBS comedies this show is going to fall to mid-1s and cancelled after 13.

  • Observer

    I know I am going to tune in tonight and I watch VERY few shows.

  • TVMAN

    This show is a very risk show compared to Almost Human. Because sleepy hollow only has a 6 or 8 episode order. So if it doesn’t do well its not huge deal since its basically a filler show till baseball playoffs

  • Greg

    2.4

    It’s got some surprisingly positive reviews and it’s competing against nothing, so I think it can premiere decently.

  • Greg

    @TVMAN

    Where did you get that? Sleepy Hollow has a regular 13-episode order.

  • Tony JJ

    @TVMAN

    no. Almost human will be replacing Bones when Bones moves to Fridays. Sleepy Hollow has a 13 episode order.

  • jason50

    I gave it 2.1

    I caught the first episode at Comic-Con, I give it a C+(77/100).
