Miss America

Adults 18-49: Rating/Share 6.3/17 2.9/8 1.8/5 1.4/4 1.0/3
Adults 18-34: Rating/Share 5.7/18 2.3/7 1.7/5 1.1/3 0.8/2
Total Viewers (million) 15.949 10.277 4.501 6.580 2.906

NOTE: Due to the nature of live  programming the ratings for  NBC, CBS & FOX (NFL Football) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. CBS's primetime line-up was delayed approximately 50 minutes in the Eastern and Central time zones so the ratings are too scrambled to be meaningful. Due to NFL overruns in 16 percent of the country, FOX ratings are inflated.

NBC was number one among adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

On NBC the second week of Sunday Night Football, which featured a match-up between the 49ers and the Seahawks earned a preliminary7.4 adults 18-49 rating from 8:30-11PM, down 19 percent from last week's preliminary 9.1.

CBS's primetime line-up was delayed for about 50 minutes in the Eastern and central timezones due to football coverage, so the preliminary numbers are hopelessly scrambled. Check back tomorrow morning for the Sunday finals to find out how Big Brother did.

On ABC, a special Miss America themed episode of 20/20 earned a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating up 50 percent from a 0.6 for the comparable episode on January 12, 2012. The Miss America Pageant scored a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating up 19 percent from a 1.6 on January 12, 2013. (Due to a scheduling quirk, there were two pageants within the 2013 calendar year.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Breaking Bad was awesome last night

  • Seth

    Outstanding for Miss America

  • Two

CBS was only delayed 20 minutes. The scheduled start time for Big Brother was 8:30.

  • Raykov

You forgot to write R behind The Good Wife. It was a repeat…

  • rob60990

Miss America did well but why was it early this year?

  • r0ckmypants

@rob60990 – The contest was moved back to Atlantic City, where it was always held in September.

  • Mon

Last night’s BB was kind of a clip show. GM was so funny. “Cook your own damn chicken pie.” I hope she wins. Better than Spencer winning.

  • ChipL955

rob60990, you must be a youngster. Miss America wasn’t “early” this year — it was “late” for the relatively few number of years it aired in January. Originally, the pageant was intended to do one thing: Keep tourists in Atlantic City after Labor Day, when they normally went home (and stopped spending money on the Boardwalk). The pageant was always the first or second Saturday after Labor Day. It’s only been the last few years that the show was moved from September to January (and from broadcast television to cable, and from Atlantic City to Las Vegas).

The last few years the show has done relatively well on ABC on a January Saturday, so they returned the show to September and to Atlantic City. That gives Miss America 2013 the distinction of having the shortest scheduled reign of any Miss America (not counting Vanessa Williams or anyone else who resigned midway through the year). I believe this year is also the first time the show has aired on a Sunday. With a 1.9 in the demo, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it back next year, on ABC, on Sunday, from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

@ChipL955 – “I wouldn’t be surprised to see it back next year, on ABC, on Sunday, from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.”

ABC will be airing it for at least the next two years.

Breaking Bad (the BEST show on TV) took away from SNF’s viewership. Not to mention Miss America, Yankees/Red Sox, and a WWE Pay Per View.

On top of all that, the game stunk! The first half was completely horrid according to the box scores. I was watching BB though.

  • Bob

I want Gina Marie to win too. Sure she was awful at the beginning but she has proved herself to be a pretty great person. I think Aryan’s influence at the beginning may have cause the racist comments from Gina Marie. Plus, Gina Marie will need the money now that she has been fired from her job.

  • Flame

Was MSQ aired out of prime time that night?

  • ReallyTired

I watched Boardwalk Empire and the season fianle of The Newsroom. Was there anything else on tv last night, besides the Yankees/Sox?

  • DKD

Breaking Bad got a 2.6 last week. A 2.8 or higher wouldn’t surprise me for last night’s episode. That would beat everything but football on this pathetic table.

  • K

Sunday night football ratings probably will be better next Sun with Steelers and Bears

  • John

    @ Flame

It wasn’t on at all last night because of football.

How about one of the greatest episodes in the history of television on Breaking Bad?

  • max

Sunday night football also had a 60 minute lightening and thunder delay about 10 minutes into the game, west coast teams and finished around 12 am EST.

  • ReallyTired

@John – Breaking Bad is on the dvr.

  • KJ Styles

@John- Indeed it was! That episode was so riveting that it nearly brought tears to my eyes. Breaking Bad is the best show of all time IMO. A lot of people say The Wire is, but I think BB blows the Wire away.

  • E.S.

Despite their improvements the CheatHawks aren’t an exciting team to watch. NBC’s probably upset that Flex Scheduling doesn’t begin until the second half of the season, or they would have opted to air Manning Bowl III.
