“BOXEO TELEMUNDO” IS BACK ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 AT 11:35PM/10:35C AS THE BELL SOUNDS FOR THE START OF ITS THIRD AND FINAL SEASON OF 2013

Wilfredo Vazquez kicks off the season against Guillermo Avila as Avila aims to retain his undefeated streak against a former champion

MIAMI – SEPTEMBER 17, 2013- Boxeo Telemundo  - the number one boxing program on Hispanic television in the United States during Season 2 - is back on Friday, September 20 at 11:35PM/10:35C, as the bell sounds for the start of its third and final season of 2013. Season 3 of “Boxeo Telemundo” promises to be just as thrilling as the previous two this year with quality boxing and exciting finishes. The action kicks off on Friday in Florida at the Kissimmee Civic Center with a former champion in Puerto Rico’s own Wilfredo Vazquez Jr, facing off versus unbeaten Mexican pugilist Guillermo Avila for the vacant WBO International Bantamweight Title.  Rene Giraldo and Jessi Losada will be on the call, and Karim Mendiburu will be ringside interacting with fans on social media and interviewing the winner after the bout.  Boxing fans can also visit Deportestelemundo.com on the web and on their mobile devices to watch the weigh-in and see exclusive behind the scenes footage. They can also keep up with the fight live following @TelemundoSports on Twitter for round-by-round scoring and up to the minute updates.

Vazquez (22-3-1, 19 KO)  is a former super bantamweight champion who wants to reclaim his glory days as king of  his weight class. Vazquez has been a Boxeo Telemundo mainstay since the start of his career with 16 of the first 18 fights of his career happening under the national television lights. Vazquez also has fond memories of the Kissimmee Civic Center, since he obtained his first world title at that venue five years ago on September 12, 2008 against Adolfo Landeros.

The Puerto Rican boxer will face a tough test against Avila, an opponent that boasts a 13-0 record and hasn’t lost yet in his professional career.  The Mexican pugilist wants to  prove he belongs with the elite boxers of his weight class and will attempt to prove it in his first fight ever in the United States, having fought previously only in Mexico. Avila is a powerful boxer with a propensity for knockouts, since 10 of his 13 career wins have come via KO.

Other upcoming bouts in the third season of Boxeo Telemundo include a Mexican duel in Mexico City between David Carmona and Antonio Tostado Garcia on September 27 and the return  of California’s own Matthew Villanueva to Face Off against unbeaten foe Daniel Lozano in Tampa on October 4.
