“The View”: (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)

Featuring all-new host Jenny McCarthy, “The View” launched its 17th season soaring to near 7-month highs in Women 18-49 (553,000/0.9 rating) and Women 25-54 (749,000/1.2 rating) – and to a 5-week high in Total Viewers (3.01 million) – since weeks of 2/25/13 and 8/5/13, respectively.

“The Chew”: (1:00 – 2:00 p.m.)

In fact, this week stood as the series 4th-most-watched week on record in the key women demos and its 5th-most-watched week in Total Viewers.

  • Monday’s season 3 launch, featuring co-host Daphne Oz’s exciting baby news announcement, qualified as the show’s most-watched telecast in close to 8 months in Total Viewers (2.85 million), while Tuesday’s telecast, celebrating National TV Dinner Day with Chef Batali and Chef Symon squaring off in a TV dinner showdown, was its most-watched telecast in nearly 20 months in Women 18-49 (584,000/0.9 rating) – since 1/28/13 and 2/2/12, respectively.

  • Impressively, Monday’s show became “The Chew’s” #4 telecast ever in Total Viewers and #6 of all time in Women 18-49.

Katie is not part of ABC daytime though. Here where I live it is not even on the ABC affiliate. It comes on the NBC affiliate in late afternoon before the news.

Even on many stations it doesn’t even directly come on after General Hospital.

It is syndicated and airs on multiple networks throughout the US. It is financed not just through advertising dollars but also gets finances from affiliates contracting to air it.

Wow! A press release for ABC Daytime????? How long has it been since the last one? Well don’t ever watch The View or The Chew but GH you ROCK!

  • Joey S

Great news for GH. The show has really started to vastly improve. Maura West and William Devry are two great additions to the cast. The writing for these two and the other stories are fantastic. Cannot wait for RObin’s return

Let’s get some facts straight here:

General Hospital has a season average of 1.2 in the women 18-49 key demo.

“The Chew” has a sesaon average of 0.6-07 in the women 18-49 key demo.

So, contrary to what the press release – and some people on this board – try to suggest, we are talking about two very different levels of ratings here. There’s a reason why ABC desperately needs to paint and spin it this way, because I know about the – increasingly heated – discussions that are going on in advertiser circles about the fact that daytime ratings in the key demos are at the lowest level ever with these shows, while soaps, in spite of their losses in the 2000s, were still delivering much better numbers and are now enjoying a big boost again.

All My Children and One Life to Live had an average of 1.0 in the key demo even during their weakest period.

All in all, “The Chew” – as ALL cheap replacement shows for soaps – are drawing consistently and significantly lower numbers than the soaps.

Even the newly introduced and somehow misleading “women 18-54″ demo doesn’t change the picture much in favor of these cheap talk and cooking shows. Actually, it becomes even more obvious that their viewership is considerably older than what we’re seeing from soaps and vastly NOT what advertisers are actually paying for.

I thought The View seemed like something was missing all week. I mean Joy is really leaving a void. But the fact that they didn’t even replace her is not a smart move if you ask me. The show has lost 2 people at once and although Jenny M is good, it just seems lackluster to me so far. Sherri seems overbearing too much of the time and was so disrespectful to Barbara when Barbara couldn’t get in a word she exclaimed, “This is a tough show!” and Sherri replied , “Its a tough life” and kept right on talking. Ugly!

  • jr YOU WING

GH sucks! How can any normal thinking human being watch that parade of overacting squalor and deem it entertaining? I have watched it since the 1970s and it is so bad now it insults one’s intelligence. Three actors become different people and you accept this? KIKI is sooooooooo bad as an actress as well as the new Luluuuuuuuuuuuuu. Intolerable drivel with head writers more concerned about social matters than exciting intriguing writing. Fire all of the writers. Unless Jason returns, it’s over. Franco the second has a brain operation and all he wears is a band aid? Drek.

  • Monica Good

Interesting……..Most everyone that I know has stopped watching the View.
