Super Fun Night

After months of promoting the pilot episode of Super Fun Night, ABC is opting to launch the series with a different episode titled"Anything for Love". The pilot featured Rebel Wilson's character, Kimmie, persuading her friends to go to a party hosted by her attractive co-worker. "Anything For Love" showcases the women's trip to a piano bar.ABC has not announced when or if the pilot will air.  Here is ABC's description of "Anything For Love":

“Anything for Love” -- Kimmie wants the gang to broaden their horizons and try something they’ve never done before. But she’s not so brave when she finds out their next super fun night destination is a piano bar. Can she face her biggest fear, singing in public? Meanwhile, Kendall can’t understand why Richard and Kimmie are friends and plans to do something about it, on “Super Fun Night,” WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2 (9:31-10:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network.

 This episode replaces “Pilot.”

“Super Fun Night” stars Rebel Wilson as Kimmie Boubier, Liza Lapira as Helen-Alice, Lauren Ash as Marika, Kevin Bishop as Richard Royce and Kate Jenkinson as Kendall.

Guest starring are Matt Lucas as Derrick, Ravi Patel as Alex, Anastasia Pimenov as young Kimmie, Skylar Stecker as young Brittany, Katie Wee as the waitress and Jacob Wysocki as the MC.

“Anything for Love” was written John Riggi and directed by Alex Hardcastle.

Why though? Will they air the pilot during the season? I hate when they do this because when the episode which was supposed to be the pilot airs, it would be a continuity issue and I hate noticing them. Hopefully it’s a great episode though. Are they going to air a different ad? Isn’t it a bit late? People will be confused…

The pilot is supposed to be awful. Critics have been ripping it to shreds.

  • jimmers

I would still watch it an HOPEFULLY enjoy it. I love me some REBEL.

  • Juan

Well I guess that it makes some sense since critics say the pilot isn’t very good and hopefully this one is, I’m watching it anyway cause I really like rebel.

  • Cyrax86

    Smells like first cancellation possibility?

  • Nothing But Cancellation

I’ve already seen this with another sitcom, it was called Apartment 23

    And we know what happened.

    @Nothing But Cancellation
I’ve already seen this with another sitcom, it was called Apartment 23

The premiere episode of Don’t Trust the B- was “Pilot.”

  • Michael1

Was this the same pilot episode that never made it on the air for CBS last season?

  • Luke

    Translation: The pilot sucked.

  • SJ

    Cancellation imminent.

Where do we start a petition to get Paul Lee off ABC for good before he ruins the network completely?

  • Samuel

I think everyone is jumping the gun a little.

While I believe it was a good idea to replace the pilot episode – hopefully with the episode that was to follow the pilot – we all know that critics reviews don’t really mean anything. Most comedies are ripped to shreds by critics, yet they translate very well with the public.

Don’t Trust The B- was rated quite well with critics and look how that turned out. Happy Endings was also rated quite well, along with Cougar Town.

    Bad ratings mean nothing.

  • John A

I never bother with ABC Comedies as they are always bad.

  • SJ

To be fair, the first episodes of Happy Endings and Cougar Town were both ripped to shreds by critics. Only Don’t Trust the B has had critical backing since its inception.

    Bad ratings mean nothing.

    Except cancellation. ;)

Why would ABC pick up a show when the pilot isn’t that good? Isn’t the pilot the only thing the network see before picking up or passing on a show? and it looks a little bad on Rebel since she created the show and wrote the pilot, but they’ve replaced it with an episode written by somebody else..

  • Ronald

maybe they were not happy about the feedback and if they think teh seciond one is better, they should air it and later air that pilot… if they are doing this it means that the two episodes dont have continity whatsoever

  • Justin121

Slightly off topic but ABC has made the same mistake twice.

Pairing Super Fun Night-Modern Family instead of Trophy Wife.

Pairing Happy Endings-Modern Family instead of Suburgatory.

  • Dan S

I agree with Justin121. TW should follow MF & SFN should be on Tues. instead. SFN looks so awful I don’t think I can bear to watch. This certainly can’t help Nashville that follows.

“Why would ABC pick up a show when the pilot isn’t that good?”

ABC and other networks need to stop picking up shows just because they have a “name.” A name will only get you sampling. If the show sucks, viewers won’t stick around. ABC seems desperate here to make this show work. They probably wanna rub it in CBS’ face but CBS will get the last laugh when this is losing more than half of Modern Family’s audience after a couple of months.

i don’t see this as doomed yet. critics have been HATING it, which is why this happened. but people love rebel and at the very least, it’ll open well. and it’s a comedy. not a drama. so there’s always a chance, like many that came before it, that it’ll improve with time. but starting with a non-pilot episode is risky. they should instead “combine” the pilot and this episode somehow. get the pilot-y and introduction-y things from the pilot and use the plot of this new episode. brothers & sisters did something similar once early in season 1.

tho i do agree that trophy wife should’ve been the one following modern fam.

I know that they jumped around a lot during Apt. 23’s run. June would have a corporate job, then she wouldn’t. James would be on DWTS, then he’d be preparing for it. It was annoying.
