In Late-Night Metered Markets Friday night:

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.8/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 1.8/5 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.9/5 with an encore.

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.9/4; "Late Show," 0.4/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3 with an encore.

  • From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

The Neighbors is funnier this year give it another chance I wasn’t sure I wanted to stay with it till the 3rd episode and Sing like a Larry Bird was great. I beg the people in the chat to actually give it one more chance. The Neighbors is awesome, hope for better next week.

  • SARAH

Reba’s not cheap, but you will bet she would have been on every talk show, and radio station promoting MC……to think they replaced her show with a premiere rating of 1.2….its AWLFUL!!!! Sorry Neighbors…bad move ABC!!!

  • Tony JJ

Definitely should’ve renewed Malibu Country. It fit well in between Shark Tank and Last man Standing. The Neighbors just doesn’t flow well. Even when Malibu country hit a 1.2 it didn’t affect Shark Tank at all. Malibu country could’ve grown this year. I ain’t a bitter fan but ABC definitely made a bad decision. 2 multi camera comedies need to go there. And MC and LMS fit well. Both comedies with comedy vets that were well known.

  • Ram510

Is Shark Tank suffering from overexposure sort of like what ABC did with Millionaire?

  • Dan S

A 1.0 for SH on Fox for an encore is quite good. Even The Following reruns were doing a lot worse as was last lessons Touch. I say it’s safe to say SH is a keeper & a bonafide hit.

  • Dan S

    Season not lessons stupid spellcheck

  • HalCapone

Who knows why the ratings were down across all nets last evening. It could just be following the historic pattern of broadcast ratings declines each year, setting a new benchmark ratings normal high for the night. That being said, it’s still surprising to see Shark Tank below 2 since this is a very popular show that I believe viewers will seek out in any Friday time slot–and I really don’t see Shark Tank being impacted by any lead-in show like The Neighbors or Last Man Standing. Whether one loves or hates LMS and The Neighbors, these are both family-viewing oriented shows that obviously appeal more to families and young children–probably two demographics that don’t ordinarily post on this site. I applaud ABC/Disney for at least making the effort to program for families in many of their early prime time hours each week.

  • scifi

Grimm & Dracula will kill every shark tank and other reality non-sense soon!!

  • JR35

Those are acceptable demo repeat numbers for Sleepy Hollow.

  • JR35

Also- more often than not, Shark Tank got under a 2, so if it gets 1.7/1.8, that’s inline with its typical performance.

  • Joseph

Univision probably won the night among broadcast networks in the 18-34 and 18-49 demos.

And in some cities, local baseball probably did a number on prime-time broadcast numbers, especially in Boston, where the Red Sox won to clinch their division title.

  • Dan

@Ram510 – That was way different, Millionaire was on 8 times a week, ABC was going crazy with it, Shark Tank aired repeats here and there and for fridays its doing fine. A 1.7 is good and most people dont realize that, LMS’s 1.5 is good too but Neighbors 1.2 is worrisome, though it could have been worse.

Both comedies will air 22 episodes this season, Last Man Standing will get a full fourth season to get it to reach syndication, (Why it only got 18 last season was another mystery)

I wonder if ABC will use either show to move it to replace a failed freshman comedy like NBC did with Whitney and Community (That were both ironically multicam and single cam shows airing 8 and 8:30 Fridays) but my guess is they have Subugatory so probably not.

  • Michael

    Next Fridays Ratings I Predict

    FOX:
    Masterchef Junior: 1.0

    ABC:
    Last Man Standing: 1.5
    Neighbors: 1.2
    Shark Tank: 1.8

    CBS:
    Undercover Boss: 1.5
    HAwaii FIve 0: 1.8
    Blue Bloods: 1.5

  • a p garcia

I though LMS and the Neighbors were repeats so I tuned out.

  • CBSviewer

I’m shocked by The Neighbors numbers. This 1.2 is very low and I give it two more weeks before being replaced by Suburgatory.

  • rob60990

@Bryan its not dumb at all. How I Met Your Mother got a boost when paired with 2 Broke Girls. Same with Suburgatory being paired with The Middle and TBBT with 2.5 Men on Monday a couple of years ago. Malibu Country was a pile of crap but I think ABC would have done better last night with that on instead of The Neighbors.

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Joseph

Kinda knew Boston would clinch last night

You should be in Pgh, where St Louis is now two ahead of us & Cinn

I no longer like the color RED (or the city San Diego–for that matter!) (Just kidding)

Pgh also has some interesting HS FB rivalries going on this year as well

Arrgh! I’m getting too old for this!!

  • Bitter Go On Fan (Former Bitter Ringer Fan)

Cold start for the Neighbors. I hope they at least let it air all its season order.

  • HalCapone

When Grimm returns and Count Chocula premieres they will probably achieve low 1′s if lucky.

  • Samunto

Networks must be getting worried now since it seems like shows are returning down 20-25% just like last season.

Will The Neighbors even last till christmas? Will probably get yanked for the November sweeps.
