emmy-awards 2

It's Emmy night! Lots of sites have made their predictions for who will win the awards. Here at tvbythenumbers we care about the ratings for the telecast.  Last year, it garnered a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating. Two years ago it notched a 4.2. Tonight, the Emmys face stiff cable competition including the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad, the series finale of Dexter and the season finale of Devious Maids. Sunday Night Football will also probably  crush everything else in its path, but the Emmys have competed with it for years. So how do you think the Emmy Awards will fare? Make your predictions!

    4. Its Cbs

You have to remember that the Emmys this year have a powerful lead-in: NFL. That can boost the gala like 0.5-1 points up.

  • diegobythenumbers

But, like TVBTN said, there’s the penultimate episode of the monster ‘Breaking Bad’ (I guess a 3.5), the unpredictable series finale of ‘Dexter’ (I guess a 1.5-1.6), (let’s face it, the season finale of ‘Devious Maids’ won’t harm the ratings (something like 0.9-1.1) and Sunday Night Football (above 6.0). But as I said before, the NFL lead-in could boost it to a 4 point something or a higher 3.

The Emmys are going up against SNF, but Bears-Steelers isn’t that compelling of a game (this season), and CBS has the only decent NFL game of this week as a lead-in. 4.1+.

  • Dani Wai

3.9!! I’m going to remember to watch it this year!

  • rob60990

    4.5

  • Chris

You should have mentioned the Emmys have an NFL on CBS doubleheader as a lead-in. That should really help its ratings. That’s why I chose > 4.2.

  • Cyrax86

    Flat vs last year.

  • Nothing But Cancellation

4.1, but I’m going to watch Breaking Bad, hoping for lots of wins.

ANYTHING HAS TO BE BETTER THAN THE DAYTIME EMMY`S . THAT PRODUCTION WAS PATHETIC . SADDEST PART WAS ROBIN MEAD THINKS SHE HAS TALENT .

  • PearlClutcher

@Mama’s actually Robin mead was the only talented thing about the pathetic daytime emmys. Was worth tuning in to though as the “patheticness” is what made it entertaining, here is to many more years of the crapfest.

  • tzonga

    0.1

  • THE OLD MAN

    I’m thinking 3.9 to 4.0

    My predictions:

    65th Primetime Emmy Awards 4.2
    Breaking Bad (penultimate episode) 3.2
    Dexter (series finale) 1.2
    Sunday Night Football 7.7

Last year (September 23, 2012) the Emmy awards were broadcast on ABC without the help of NFL games as a lead-in. ABC’s Red Carpet Live had a 1.1 rating at 7 pm.

Two years ago (September 18, 2011) Fox broadcast the Emmy awards and had The OT with a 3.8 rating at 7 pm and the Countdown to the Emmys with a 2.7 rating.

I’m predicting the 2013 Emmys will match the 2011 Emmys.

The Sunday Night football game will drop from last week’s 8.4 rating because the Pittsburg Steelers are 0-2.

  • DenverDean

CBS was wise to drop older skewing 60M and give Emmy’s the big lead-in. They should do that more often. Would really help TAR and rest of Sunday line-up, but they won’t give up this dinosaur.

  • Peter

I hope Girls wins just to piss off the naysayers.
