Who says that the Cancellation Bear always brings bad news? He's starting off the 2013-14 season with only good news!

Person Of Interest and 2 Broke Girls are both certain to be renewed at the end of the 2013-14 season.

They will each begin their third seasons in 2013-14. At the end of this season, each will be within one more full season of episodes (give or take a couple) of the 88 episodes which currently seems to be the minimum for extra profitable stripped syndication. While neither show is produced by CBS (both by Warner Brothers), that should't prevent their automatic renewals.

In other certainty news, it has already been announced that How I Met Your Mother's current season will be its final one.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

But POI hasn’t even started yet

  • Simon

Even though it hasn’t aired yet? Are we talking Syndication values here? By the end of this season the show will have 67 episodes, can’t rightly remember how many episodes we’re getting this season mind you but that sounds about right.

  • Owen

My prediction: cancellation race (drama side) goes between The Good Wife, The Mentalist, H50 and Blue Bloods. Hostages look dead already.

  • Brian

Already great news for POI :)

  • darius

Given that Hostages is dead after the pilot ratings and The mentalist might get cancelled, POI should get a 4th season!

  • CBSviewer

There will be a lot of cancelation this season.
I bet on The Mentalist, The Good Wife, Hostages, We Are Men, HIMYM (final season), Two and a Half Men (Final season) and maybe Mom.

  • Dan

Yep POI and 2BG is in the same cushy position as H50, M&M and BB were last season. Speaking of those shows unless both Blue Bloods and Hawaii 5-0 flop on fridays, given that Hostages will probably flop, CBS will probably keep both shows on for fifth seasons to get past 100 episodes. Same with Mike & Molly as a utility player, with HIMYM ending in May and Two and a Half Men probably ending.

  • Ryan

I suspect The Good Wife, Hostages, We Are Men, and the Millers are all gone along with HIMYM.

Supposing that Mom, the Crazy Ones, Mike & Molly, and Two and a Half Men are renewed on the comedy side and that CBS maintains 8 comedies by premiering two new ones, how many dramas will be cancelled? Hostages and the Good Wife would free up two slots, but there’s also Intelligence in the spring. It sounds like only 1 or 2 of the Sunday/Friday dramas will be cancelled.

  • Alan

Seems that Hostages will be the first cancelled show of the season!

  • Dan

Also I expect The Mentalist and The Good Wife to be done in May as this seasons “CBS Veteran Cancelled Shows”, so hopefully both shows craft series finales.

I think TGW is safe as well

  • Dan

If I could guess for cancellations here are mine

    HIMYM (Final Season)
    Two and a Half Men
    The Good Wife
    The Mentalist
    We Are Men

Its too early to tell for Intelligence, The Crazy Ones and The Millers.

  • Vanessa

Go POI. A show that haven’t air yet. Woohoo!!

  • Petar

I hope PRISM&NSA surveillance scandal and revelations boost POI ratings and add more viewers. That allowed our show to be referenced in mainstream news in a way most shows can never achieve.

  • Elijah

2 Broke Girls also has a syndication deal I believe, so all those delusional haters think it’s going to be cancelled are insane.

  • Pinkle

Two and a Half Men isn’t going anywhere. CBS will need it given that the Monday comedy block will probably completely collapse once HIMYM leaves.

  • a p garcia

Is this like the past 2 seasons of HIMYM and if the numbers are good, then it will be renewed! 2BG still had good number. I hope POI still has the feel of 24 like the first 2 seasons.

  • Petar

@I hope POI still has the feel of 24 like the first 2 seasons.

I agree but 24 was more about “one man show” and POI is “two man lead” and will all great cast two. And if all other crime shows are after the crime POI is before the crime. That make POI so unique! And that was created before edward snowden start taling. Add great script and here we go. I want to see what Shaw will add to the show.

  • KK

You’re right. 2BG has a deal in place with TBS.

  • Mon

2 Broke Girls is almost certain to reach at least season 5 because CBS sure would like to see its ratings once it reaches syndication on TBS and local CBS affiliates. Whether it stays at 9pm is a different story. I wish it was never moved to 9pm so quickly. So now, CBS is going to waste another season of HIMYM lead-in this time on We Are Men and maybe TBBT repeats. They already wasted last season on Partners, TBBT repeats and ROE. What CBS should have done instead? I don’t know but they surely rushed 2BG to take the 9pm spot.
