Who says that the Cancellation Bear always brings bad news? He's starting off the 2013-14 season with only good news!

Person Of Interest and 2 Broke Girls are both certain to be renewed at the end of the 2013-14 season.

They will each begin their third seasons in 2013-14. At the end of this season, each will be within one more full season of episodes (give or take a couple) of the 88 episodes which currently seems to be the minimum for extra profitable stripped syndication. While neither show is produced by CBS (both by Warner Brothers), that should't prevent their automatic renewals.

In other certainty news, it has already been announced that How I Met Your Mother's current season will be its final one.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

POI did a 2,3 last night!I don t know if it s a good number!

  • Theisssuesarenow

Of course it is not good! By spring it will be below 2.0 and is now guaranteed to be cancelled! Tuesday 10 is a death slot where l shows that air fail and are cancelled or fail and move. Because it’s wb and was already moved POI will be cancelled and is in it’s last season. Hope the wrap up story is good. Wonder what emersons next show is!

  • Brandy

    Glad about 2 BGs.

  • Sven

What will CBS broadcast next Season, my guess is that TBBT does only have one season left, HIMYM is in its last Season, H5O wont be renewed, Two and a Half men is its last season, whats left? And Hostages is indeed already dead…

  • Theisssuesarenow

No I am not here to troll anyone. It was obvious in May this disaster was going to happen to POI because everything fails at Tuesday 10 because three hours of drama is just too much and hasn’t worked for years and almost a decade. So POI is going to be cancelled or moved and the disastrous 2.3 will just go lower and lower and probably in the spring will go down to 1.4 or 1.5. This has been obvious since May and I was posting this then and this predictable catastrophe should have been stopped months ago! CBS should have reversed its decision rather than kill POI but maybe that was the plan because POI is WB.

CBS will cancel The Mentalist, The Good Wife, Hostages and Intelligence. If they do that, they could premiere three new dramas in the fall (Monday at 10, Thursday at 10 and Sunday at 9) and keep their 2-Hour Comedy block on Thursday.

  • catsrule

Bill Gorman: When was the last time CBS DIDN’T renew a second season drama?(although Unforgettable may be canned, again)

Shark was cancelled after two seasons. And Joan of Arcadia was robbed of a 3rd season.

  • Dan

@Catsrule: Joan of Arcadia, Shark, Jericho, and likely Unforgettable but only because its second season only had 13 episodes.

The unwritten rule is that CBS never renews midseason dramas and when they renew a fall drama its safe for 4 years at least, look at Mentalist, NCIS LA, Good Wife, Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods, Person of Interest, and Elementary.

@Sven – Why would The Big Bang Theory be in its last season this year? Unless all of the cast drops dead thats not gonna happen. TBBT has many years left.

HIMYM is done after this season and Two and a Half Men is getting expensive and if it lucky will get 1 more season

2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly and The Big Bang Theory are effectively safe for 2014-2015 along with whatever succeeds this season.

The Good Wife and The Mentalist will be this years veteran cancellations

While Hawaii 5-0 and Blue Bloods will be renewed likely because CBS won’t have any renewed dramas fron this season and because getting both shows over 100 episodes = syndication money so why cancel them? TGW didn’t have a syndication deal when it was renewed and Mentalist is ownded by Warner Brothers so CBS didn’t even have to bring those shows back.

People will be saying Blue Bloods and Hawaii 5-0 are in danger even when they got to 88 eps just because they are on Fridays but CBS owns them and they will both get 5th seasons.

  • Networkman

A lot of CBS dramas are really getting older. And the network will start to see the negative effects of aging. It’s nice that CBS has been stable but they really do need to begin to free up some space for new creative dramas similar to Under the Dome. Debuting only 1 new drama in the Fall will no longer work. They need to create new hit dramas to replace the dramas that should be nearing there end.

The Good Wife and The Mentalist should end. But I also feel Criminal Minds may see its finale season. It depends on how expensive the show is getting. And I really don’t feel good about Elementary. Even though I feel CBS will try and make it work and ship it to Sunday night.

  • Michael1

    @Dan

Were the principle cast members of “The Big Bang Theory” all to drop dead, I think there may be some potential with a show featuring the parents. I think Howard’s and Leonard’s mothers would be the main characters, and Sheldon’s mother could pop in every once and a while. Raj’s parents could skype in from India. I think it could still work.

  • Ivan

I hope The Good Wife and Blue Bloods get axed. Both extremely boring. Hawai Five-O is a great action.

  • Brandy

@Sven, no way is this Big Bang Theorys last season. Its the most watched highest rated comedy on tv and in syndication and its a huge money maker for cbs.Unless the cast wants out, (which ive heard no rublings about) or cbs denies thier request for $1 million a episodes for cast salary for the three main cast members, BBTwill go for for at least a couple more seasons, maybe longer.

Only one episode of Hostages has aired so far.. how can you all say its done. Theres still a chance.. you dont know how it will do in DVR playback either. I know a lot of people tapped it and are gunna watch it another time. Its a good show and the reviews ive seen are good. I just dont get it.

I just saw the pilot episode of Hostages and it’s excellent, my favorite new show so far. I don’t think it’s in danger of getting pulled, disappointing premiere ratings but it matched the Hawaii Five-O premiere from last year. And yes it would be nice if Hostages had a big increase in live+7 ratings, going against The Blacklist hurt it.

  • Petar

Person of interest will be #1 10 pm drama on CBS but they made big mistake moving their best yong and fresh show at 10! I think they will acknowledge that. Aging shows like CM or survivor can be move to 10 pm or sunday. POI can grow and syndication can help as most drama get boost from syndication(castle is last example) Not to talk about cbs comedy mess which can turn into disater.

  • ToXiX

    @Sven

You are a very stupid individual.

  • CBSviewer

    @ Petar

Person of Interest is not owned by CBS. So they will send him in their deathslot like they did with The Mentalist.

  • CBSviewer

*They will send IT to their deathslots, sorry I’m so tired !

  • Ryan

You all are crazy. Big Bang Theory is getting at least 10 seasons. Even when the cast gets too expensive, syndication economics will make it profitable to produce additional seasons at a loss, similar to what happened with Friends. Friends would have gone on even longer if the cast didn’t want out, and I don’t see that as the case for The Big Bang Theory except for perhaps Kaley Cuoco. Even so she’ll just negotiate a higher salary along with Parsons and Galecki. I also expect an extra season or two out of Two and a Half Men for syndication reasons as well as if none of the new comedies are big hits. The weakness of 2 Broke Girls and Mom, and the inevitable failure of We Are Men and the Millers further supports this.

There is no rule about fall dramas or midseason dramas. CBS will simply renew whatever rates highest and makes the most sense for them. Usually that’s the fall drama because 1) networks tend to air their best dramas in the fall, and 2) those shows have more episodes produced at 22 vs 13. CBS has cancelled shows such as Shark, Close to Home, and Joan of Arcadia at 2 full seasons because that’s the last point of cancellation before syndication requires larger schedule commitments. Elementary would have to worry somewhat this year if it weren’t for the weakness of Sunday and Friday dramas as well as Hostages flopping.

  • Bill

Hostages is gone and I think We Are Men will fall as well. As for anything on the drama front it will be anything from TGW, Mentalist,H50, bb and Criminal Minds. Whichever are lower rated, I’d go with Mentalist and TGW. mentalist isn’t owned by CBS so I think that’s first to go, plus they are solving RJ a sign I think that they know it’s done. But who knows maybe it will be sold to TNT just like South LAnd was
